To Andylog:
I think you've got it all figured out perfectly.
The first two pairs are F. (niobe) niobe
The next three are F. (niobe) xipe

13.06.2008 22:02, PG18

That there was not a single picture of F. adippe vorax. A common taxon in Primorye and the Amur region.
Here, a female with a male from Primorye
picture: F_adippe_vorax.jpg

Pay attention to the shape of the silvery spot in the outer part of the central cell z. kr. It is elongated, its length is almost twice as wide. This is not the case with our other manufacturers.

Dear Papilion, A. nerippe is not among your butterflies.
It is rather a subspecies of adippe.

For the nerippe image and the key to the definition, see this thread above.

to Papilion:
Please take a look at page 1 of this topic URL#28

Demostration of the underside of the wings of your specimens perfectly demonstrates just the opposite.
Your instances are more likely to belong to the vorax taxon

nerippe is the most recognizable butterfly among other mother-of-pearl butterflies of its genus. An important feature is the " well-made "so-called "hearts" along the edge of the wing.
I advise you to read "Butterflies of Russia and adjacent territories, Part II" edited by V. K. Tuzov
and Bozano & Tuzov "Butterflies of the Palaearctic region, tribe Arginini"
And the topic should also be read more carefully

23.06.2008 17:13, Papilion

Morozzz, do you think Argynnis coreana and Argynnis nerippe are two distinct distinct species?

23.06.2008 17:25, Pavel Morozov

There is a species nerippe, we have its subspecies flying coreana
In Tuzov and co-authors, there is also a separate species coreana, which in a later edition edited by Bozano is already presented as coredippe In
General, several taxa of mother-of-pearl Fabriciana live in Primorsky Krai. Of these, only nerippe coreana does not cause difficulties, the rest is a rather muddy thing. Various publications from Korshunov to Bozano mention the following taxa in addition to nerippe: vorax, coredippe, adippe, xipe.

I illustrated the vorax taxon, just as I pointed out the key attribute.
And here again F. xipe.

I agree with MOROZZZ - this is not A. nerippe.
The topic is really worth a closer read.

P.S. In my opinion, this species has never been known from Barabash-Levada.

Well, it seems that I figured smile.gifout For nerippe there are really too many inconsistencies, and vorax (as PG18 correctly wrote) has a more elongated silver spot on the underside, so perhaps the truth is for PG18, I will redefine my fabricians as xipe. Thank you all for participating in the definition.

looks like they've already put everything up? - however, here is a fresh one, from Lake Baikal (although it is shoddy - already found dead on 21.07.2008) - I am shocked and stumped: clearly from small mother-of-pearl, but the length of the front wing is 30 mm! If it can't be determined, I'll straighten it out and set it up (top. side). So, what is the species/subspecies?

Lovers of mother-of-pearl I would like to inform you: In the collection" Nature of the Simbirsk Volga region " 2009 No. 10, Robert Kichigin and I (Ulyanovsk) published a report about the discovery of C. selenis Ev. in the Ulyanovsk region.
I am preparing a review article on this species on the territory of the European part of Russia . If you have any information, I will be sincerely grateful. There will be links and acknowledgements.

On the last trip, I collected several flown selenis females - I got eggs, I think to feed them on violets. Do you have any experience of feeding on violets???

Yes, there is a complete mess with these fabricians. We need to conduct a good audit. And what we have today is just chaos.......... Therefore, before the revision, I think it is useless to find out anything.

Kirill Kolesnichenko and I talked about the need to revise this group 10 years ago. We are waiting for kamikazes...

The taxon Clossiana matveevi is no smile.giflonger listed as a subspecies.

A contradictory statement. Matveevi is a beautiful taxon, differing both in appearance and in genitals (in the shape of both processes of the valva)! He has nowhere to go. And the claim that it is a subspecies is just as shaky as its specific rank. The relationship was shown even at the first description, and then... Such arguments about allopatric taxa are ungrateful. Of course, I cooked not only the holotype, but not less than 4 specimens, and even tried to show the variability of the apex of the costal process (2001: pl. 31, figs. 23-25). That is, the holotype is not evasive at all. A deviant in this population is more likely an instance with a newt-shaped apex of the apical process. But in any case, these are bad arguments for judging rank. They would have taken at least a vesica blown out, the forms would have been looked at. At least something new. Although it's also garbage...
And the C. t.barkalovi described in the article by Dubatolov and Kosterin (apparently identical to matveevi), due to insignificant differences in the processes of the valva (individual variability of which is shown in parallel), is clearly a bad tone.
