I will ask you to add more and more photos, especially lamostenov, tafoksenov, etc. and correct my mistakes if anyone finds it..

07.10.2008 16:20, Dorcadion

Laemostenus koenigi is not easy, it is combined into the koenigi-tchitcherini complex, these are quite variable animals and they can be reliably identified by their genitals, as an example-a photo of L. koenigi from 4 points...

? Laemostenus (Pristonychus) tichyi Kult, 1946. det.Solodovnikov I. & Panin R.

A poorly studied rare taxon. They don't seem to have caught any males yet. This would clarify the situation with this dark taxon.

how can I find out more precisely? Any signs or clues?
The fact is that I don't know any signs, and it's bad to determine lamostenuses by their appearance - they are changeable.

The shape of the pronotum at least differs well

I'm starting to post the Central Asian Sphodrinae. Of course, many Taphoxenus (in the broadest sense) have a rather monotonous appearance, but together with information about the collection sites, it can be useful.
Cleaning beetles that have been in the collection for 20 or more years was boring, I took them off as is frown.gif
If there is a sense in such photos - I will post many more Pseudotaphoxenus, Taphoxenus, Laemostenus and so on. from the Center. Asia and the Caucasus.

Now discover the secret - how do you define them?

And no secrets smile.gif
Most of the material was initially processed by specialists in the group, the same Tatyana Vereshchagina (during her active work) and Ilya Kabak (specialist in ground beetles of Ts.Asia in general). And when you have reliably defined copies. If there are several types, then you can already work on your own. Naturally, according to the descriptions, because normal and full keys by types of this group are from the Center. There is no Asia. The specificity lies in the clear localization of the majority of taxa in this group, so starting from the place of collection and evaluation of the "company" to which the identified specimen belongs, it is possible to determine b.m. confidently. But even in these cases, I prefer to get confirmation of the definition from "narrow" specialists or from the standard material of Zin collections. I repeat, the basis is a large and reliably defined comparative material. This applies to any large and complex taxonomic groups.
That's how I define smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

It will also be the turn of Asian and Caucasian Laemostenus. I have accumulated good material on them, including 22 taxa that I will post soon. There are only two European Laemostenus species, plus the Crimean L. cimmerius (Caucasian endemes don't count), and since I don't have tychyi in my collection, I can hardly say anything clever. It is necessary to look at the description of the Cult and its differences from terricola.
