We will assume that this is Carabus gaschkewitschi, if no one suggested a better option in the topic of defining beetles.

Isn't this a case of carabus (Morphocarabus) venustus? It seems that Carabus gaschkewitschi is not specified for Sikhote-Alin? If you're wrong, please correct it shuffle.gif
At least one copy in the 2nd photo...

To be honest, I do not know who it is. Gashkevich's karabus is just a guess. Which is mountain-fine, about 12-15, up to 20 mm and dark brown. Which seaside is black and noticeably larger - 22-27 mm. The structure of the elytra is visible in the photo.
I don't have a guaranteed specific venustus, so there's nothing to compare it to.

19.09.2012 10:48, Alexandr Rusinov

I'm not sure about the first one, he's really something else, and the second one, I think, is Venustus venustus.

19.09.2012 10:54, Bianor

You're probably right. Just because I picked up exactly the same copy at a Hualaz in southern Primorye, where there should be no mention of Gashkevich. That's just on the Zinovsky site Venustus bronze, and mine are all black, even without ebb.

19.09.2012 10:59, Alexandr Rusinov

Venustus has black specimens, and not infrequently. Coloring is a variable thing.

Dergg, from my point of view, photos of biotopes are more suitable for "fishing reports". In addition, it would make sense to select only high-quality photos from the entire mass of photos, and not to throw everything in a heap.

01.11.2012 23:06, Dergg

Bianor, and from my point of view, 1-2 photos of the biotope in the message, taking into account the name of this topic, will not hurt. Especially if the message is constructed as an overview of the species living in this biotope from the group under discussion.
And all the heap I do not blame, believe me, posted the best quality of the photos taken by a soap dish with a fast-running sky.

Alexander, you shouldn't have said that, photos of biotopes, as well as photos of such nimble beetles as Nebria, only add expression, fully convey the "character of the object" and correspond to the name of the topic.
PS I've been meaning to ask for a long time, are there many "staged" shots among your beetles? http://www.zin.ru/Animalia/Coleoptera/rus/kuzmin2.htm and higher in the branch? I know that some people take photos at home, and some give them a little gift...How did you photograph the Carabus schrencki http://www.zin.ru/Animalia/Coleoptera/imag...03_kuzmin-2.jpg , Carabus tuberculosus http://www.zin.ru/Animalia/Coleoptera/imag...04_kuzmin-2.jpg ?

02.11.2012 7:53, Bianor

AGG, mostly photographed already dead specimens. For example, C. avinovi drowned in a glass-it rained at night and the glasses were half filled, and C. kurilensis was caught alive and hyperactive, so it also had to be slightly submerged in icy water. Podmarivat inconvenient-beetles usually wrap their legs, whiskers stick together. Submerged areas are more convenient for shooting. Well, of course, all the shots were "staged" - beetles, even alive and well, had to be taken out to an open area with good lighting and photographed there.

In the last image, Carabus (Megodontus) schoenherri is not signed.

I don't know why the image caption wasn't saved. The first two still have it, but schoenherri doesn't have it. Maybe because I didn't sign it in Latin.

A few more common ground beetles from the north of the Omsk region. 1 - Carabus schoenherri, 2 - Carabus cancellatus, 3 - Poecilus cupreus, 4 - Cicindela campestris.
