I have problems with English, so I can't travel on my own, without the help of an operator.

I communicated with customs officers culturally, otherwise it is impossible....

Corals I would have brought! Not the fact that they would have taken root, but they would have brought 99%.
There was also a green acropora or something similar to it, and a brown one, which may not have turned brown in the aquarium.
Let the corals are in a terrible state, but I can't find them here, i.e. I can't understand what I can buy a box in bulk for tens of tr, but I can't do it by the piece. In addition, they will bring the same exactly half-dead and brown ones. So what was the point of not taking it for free?!

The hermits were very far from the sea. This dam is located on a mountain, the tide will not reach, only a tsunami from a large meteorite!

The greenery that is everywhere is giveaways! How does it differ from biarosa, yollka and bizyun?! Well, I brought it too....
Palm trees grow. But I don't have a transport plane or cargo ship to take out huge palm trees, and I don't have a greenhouse in Russia to grow them.
I didn't find anything small there. I could have brought a banana, but I have one.
I brought seeds of 3 palm trees, a seed of some grass with huge leaves, which is everywhere like burdocks, cuttings of magnolias, adeniums, and a couple of other types of some pleasantly smelling flowering plants.
Papaya is just everywhere and grows like a weed. I did not bring it in the form of a plant, a dead number because it can be grown at home.
But I would bring mango with pleasure, but there are no fruit trees at all (practically). Apparently the natives are too lazy to grow anything.
Well, I've seen interesting gibisks, boogie...true, the latter bloom too sluggishly, if compared with Turkey, where seasonality is more pronounced.
Compare it with the same Turkey....when you arrive from there, you just don't know where to put everything!!
I even went to outdoor stores...greenhouses somehow the language does not turn to call them, I thought I would find something there. But alas. There is also a little empty, but in the same Turkey, if you want to buy a lot of things, you can, but you don't need to, because cuttings are freely available.
I liked one palm tree there, a miniature one, just right for a house, but I didn't see it in seed, and I didn't see it growing wild. I didn't have the nerve to rip it out on the lawn. True, in the end, I decided to dig it up a little in a deserted place, but I dug it up without a single root, I'm waiting now...maybe it will.
Oh, yes, I completely forgot, I brought home a few kg of mangoes, kg of mangosteen, lychee, rambutans, jack fruit, a couple of ripe pineapples and one interesting crown with short leaves.
And that's all.

And yet only Montipora survived....amazing!

27.05.2013 20:43, Hierophis

alex017, well, you certainly traveled normally, of course, it could have been better, but first, the first time in such a distance, and then, money decides everything, alas. I mean, for me, it's best to go there for at least a month, or better yet, for two or even better.... not at all, but to Brazil ))))
Just, if for a week or two, then three days only go to adapt, and then, it would seem, only everything begins and everything is already, "come on, goodbye" smile.gif

"If you look at this holiday from the side of an ordinary tourist, then there is nothing to complain about, the operator and the Thais worked very well. "

Interestingly, wow "not bad", I understand that three days out of seven days I had to sit in Bangkok? As for me, this is sooo bad smile.gif

There are probably plenty of animals there by our standards, you just need to first adapt normally, and then it's good to climb around the neighborhood with fresh forces, personally, as for me, there is a place to climb, I don't think that everything there is just packed with huts and fences. You can't really go to the sea - there are no insects in the sea, and there are no reptiles either smile.gif
Traps could be set at least the simplest, from jars or glasses of some kind, reptiles to look for and amphibians, that's who had to be wink.giftaken There at least von that pop-eyed croaker wink.gif

Well, the sun there as zhzhot? smile.gif and there was a storm at sea?

28.05.2013 0:58, headshotboy

28.05.2013 9:20, alex017

I didn't notice any storms. So, it's raining. Maybe strong, but warm at all and not very long-lasting. In short, they didn't bother me.
The sun burns, not as much as in Turkey. This is great! The rainy season, however, is cloudy...

Yes, the first pancake is lumpy.
An operator and a travel agency are completely different people and businesses.
The operator warned the travel agency about an indirect flight, but the travel agency did not warn me, because they are not interested in getting a refund.

In Bangkok, I had to sit for three days out of 12.

I wasn't interested in reptiles. Take a picture, maybe. And I could not take a picture of them, the camera is completely dumb. It's impossible to take a picture. It takes a long time to take pictures, the zoom is weak and focuses poorly. Grain is large in the photo. g. But shockproof and waterproof, i.e. in the sea imm fotkat-the most that.
This also applies to the question of geckos. Yes, they were everywhere! And various other lizards.
I also saw something that looked like a flying stickman. It flew at night. It's impossible to catch: it flies fast and high.
Bats were in the coconut trees.

Why do I need frogs? I wasn't interested in them. In addition, they are completely gray.
Spiders, beetles.... small, gray ... size and color as we have.

Beer glass traps? And I feel sorry for the animals that will drown in them. I didn't catch it purely for this reason!

I saw small ferns, but I wanted tree ferns.
Mangifera - where?!
Well, I brought some stuff. It's already circled. The chance of rooting is -5%.
Something beyond the fence was out of reach.
What to do with papaya? Have you seen at least one message about successful cultivation?!
I took some seeds. Take everything in a row, and then where to put it all? After all, people don't even take all sorts of weeds for free, and they don't have enough space for everything.
The plant world didn't impress me at all. Just well, no way!

As for corals. I bought it once. They brought absolutely the wrong thing, just catastrophically wrong! Completely different views that I don't need instead of the ones I ordered!! Since then, my desire to spend a couple of tens of tr has been completely discouraged.
I don't say anything about colors at all...
And to order one coral at a local store is a completely dead thing. Six months of waiting and then rejection. And it hasn't been like this before. I gave up on this case.

By the way, I saw a lot of different and large day butterflies! There were simply unrealistically large blackish colors, one wing is probably about 10 cm. Somehow I completely forgot them. I couldn't get any photos...

In the future, if I go, I will change the time, I will go when the rails are still straight, from October to April.
I'll try fishing in different places. Just a dream...this obsessive desire just didn't know what to do with it. It was possible to sleep at least twenty-four hours a day with a meal break. There is no such thing at home. and there - just trouble. I couldn't even get through the night, so I started getting ready to go home at 12! And I didn't want to go any further because of my sleep.

to alex017:
Thank you for the report!
The first pancake is also edible.
Of course, the place you have chosen is not the most suitable place for entomological collections.
However, there are also many anthropogenic species among insects. We are not talking about periplanets and bed beetles, of course, but about those that are mostly trophic or otherwise associated with the landscape changed by humans. Among the diverse lepidoptera applied to Indochina, for example, there are cocoonworms of the genus Streblote, crested birds Antheua servula, Kamalia priapus, even hawk moth Langia zenzeroides, etc., which are more often found almost in the city than in the virgin forest.
The intensity of summer is influenced by such factors as the moon phase (during the 1st quarter-full moon - the 3rd quarter usually flies worse), weather conditions (in fog it can fly into the light so that it will be difficult to approach the screen), the season, "light blockage".
The presence of a primary forest is not a guarantee of successful harvesting both during the day and at night. A secondary product in good condition can give much more and more diverse results.
In general, it is usually collected well at relatively decent altitudes-from 1000 m.
Logically, the most interesting collections should be given to places where the boundaries of different cenoses pass - a primary forest (even near deforestation), a secondary succession, a reservoir, a village with some sugar cane. But this is "logical". Personally, I am convinced that in the tropics nothing is subject to our logic.

In Nepal, most of the time I didn't get much light, but almost every night I got something new. In one place, it flew so that I was just freaked out, but since the light source was stationary, and the electricity was turned off somewhere by one o'clock in the morning, the screen had to be turned off. The owners did not have a generator. Outwardly, the place looked really lousy.
And daytime butterflies-so they generally flew in good numbers and in a diverse composition right over the flowers of the hotel territory. There were occasional fatheads in the mountains. And at the hotel - from golubyanka to troides.

However, it may turn out that the place is cool, where everything is guaranteed to be found, the season, moon phase, etc. is suitable, but for some reason nothing comes across during the day, and at night the screen is empty. This is already the "X factor". Here you need luck.

If you like Southeast Asia, then try the north of Thailand-Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai provinces. Nas Provnitsiya - generally very interesting!
And don't ignore mainland Malaysia either. If you don't care and don't need to be a pioneer, then go to Fraser's Hill.

28.05.2013 15:38, alex017

I chose the location to the best of my ability.
Alas, I can't afford anything other than group tourism, i.e. with an intermediary in the form of a tour operator, both because of the lack of English, let them say that it is not important, but without it - nowhere, having it people simply do not notice this possession, and because of the lack of sufficient finances.
This leads to a number of consequences, one of which is the lack of a car and, accordingly, the rights to it, and this makes it impossible to move freely and greatly restricts opportunities.
However, I do not intend to sacrifice something for the sake of a vehicle, as is now extremely fashionable to do, I do not see the point in an additional unnecessary and worthless expense.

The only thing that really upset me and still takes me is that I practically didn't bring the corals, except for this small piece of porites rather than montipora
P5274668_1.jpg

I still have nowhere to put my plants, so I won't be too upset about them.

As for insects, even their lack of understanding I made up for myself a little by buying eggs of stick insects Ramulus nematodes.
picture: post_19968_1369718164.jpg
Cheap and angry compared to going to Tai or wherever. And it's been a long time since I've seen this type of stick. I like such elegant little eating animals, it is easier to feed and care less, which is important when you leave home somewhere.

In general, I began to bring something from Turkey not immediately. It's important to just be in a quiet environment without fucking wanting to sleep and think things through. Errors and ways to correct them are immediately visible.
For some reason, it is from here that you can see more successful fishing spots, and there I could not find them.
And the fishing technique. It was literally my first time.
There are absolutely no plans to create a collection, I catch only for the sake of looking at those who are found and taking pictures!

Gradually, I am sure that everything will come!)

Oh, come on, come on. "Alive and with swag" (Strugatsky) - already good. But you have gained experience, and no books and tips from "experienced" people can replace it.

Yeah. Something like that)

28.05.2013 21:35, Pavel Morozov

And English is also not a problem. Thais know it even worse than you do. You can always explain it on your fingers.
In principle, you can learn it a little at the level of the Lonely planet travel guide.
You'll have to learn some boilerplate phrases. You should not deny it, it will come in handy.
Moreover, the guidebooks contain both template phrases and transcription in the local language.
There is a possibility that the local can even speak Russian. But this is more possible for Vietnam.
In Nepal, it was funny: already at the airport, the employees asked where we came from. Then they exclaimed: "Russia! Oh-oh-oh! Russia big!"
And everyone along the way asked the question:" where are you from, where are you going? "

Hello, in order not to create a new similar topic, I will ask my questions in this one, if its author does not mind. Through food to Vietnam in the Nya Chang area; no one knows how to catch and export in Vietnam? B What is there to see around Nya Chang?

24.07.2013 22:08, Zlopastnyi Brandashmyg

Do you mean the seaside resort of Nha Trang?

24.07.2013 23:38, adetkov

Exactly his.

25.07.2013 14:58, swerig

No one knows how to catch and export in Vietnam?

Everything is normal in Vietnam. And there were no problems with the export.

There are no special problems, but you don't need to light up. As far as I know, a few years ago there was a trial of Vietnamese people engaged in commercial fishing. True, it was "on a particularly large scale". And my colleague was arrested for sifting in the national park. Fortunately, we managed to "agree in an amicable way".

There are no problems with the export - everything is in the luggage and go ahead.

Nha Trang itself is of little interest. Go to Dalat (by bus - a mere trifle).
In this town, there are many street lamps under which you can catch. The road to Dalat goes through a pass covered with tropical rainforests (this is a national park), you can get there by car (taxi), taking it for the whole day (about $ 60-80). But be sure to look for an English-speaking driver, otherwise it won't work. Look out for places for small excursions in advance when you pass these places from Nha Trang to Dalat.
There are very few places where you can stop and fish. I fished on the territory of a fish hatchery (trout, and water from a cold mountain river) - there I saw and partly caught a lot of all sorts of animals.
A wonderful place, Dalat is a high-altitude resort founded by the French. You can take a break from the heat. Something can be caught in parks, waterfalls, and so on.

Good hunting to you, Alexander!
If you need to clarify something , please ask!

04.11.2013 18:50, alex017

So, again I want to fly somewhere! Even though I had a week's sleep on my last trip because of all the moving, even though I didn't bring much because of the transfers, how much I just slowed down myself and didn't bring tadpoles from those frogs in the photo above, hermits, blacksmiths all in a row, and cicadas on my arm, I realized some mistakes, why I didn't bring the corals.

I understand that in the resort area everything is at most sterile.
However, there is an idea to bring not only animals, but also vegetation, namely cycads and ferns (tree-like, at least by spores).

From possible options I consider: Vietnam, India, Thailand.
Vietnam is the main contender.

Your opinions, plz!!

04.11.2013 20:11, Zlopastnyi Brandashmyg

I do not advise India - they will eat it. I mean, for illegal collection and export, you should go to jail, and this is serious.

In Vietnam, he collected only as part of "official" expeditions.

I would recommend Thailand.

04.11.2013 20:19, alex017

And still Thailand. But there I didn't see cycads at all, and I didn't see any interesting vegetation at all, except maybe miniature papayas.
There was not a very inhabited island not far away, if I were not alone, I could rent a boat to it, but it's scary to be alone.

04.11.2013 22:13, Zlopastnyi Brandashmyg

In 2000. I was on Chang I. Island, near the border with Cambodia. The place is quite tourist, the entire coast is given to tourists, but in the middle of the island there is a national park. On the outskirts of the national Park, but without going into it, we very well posobirali.

However, that was a long time ago. As far as I know, here on the forum, there is no shortage of people collecting in Thailand. I hope they can tell you something more recent.

Soibaryu go in April next year (2014). Or rather, I was going to go.

And how to get to the island?
I probably won't go anywhere then.
Not worth the money. The animals are etched, the vegetation is sparse.
Thanks!

The places you can find for fishing are wonderful.

Quite normal island, like not much inhabited

Don't you realize that going anywhere far on your own is not an option?!

We got there by bus, but not immediately from Bangkok. First, we took the train to Khao Yai National Park, lived in a tent there, and then went to warm up on the coast.

So go together, what's the problem? smile.gif

Right here you can throw a call wink.gif

30.11.2013 12:29, alex017

So, part X arrived and I had to make a choice: stay at home or go somewhere.
I couldn't put it in July, and at other times it's not summer yet, then it's not summer anymore)
As a result, I took a trip essentially to the same place, to Tai, almost to the same place, so called Coral Island.
I bought the clear sea, a good approach to the sea and the presence of marine life, some replacement for Egypt, where I don't want to go.

Denis, what specific forum or topic did you have in mind?

I gave a link to the hotel, I'm going in mid-April, the tour has already been purchased.
I don't even hope for a fellow traveler)) It's almost impossible for two people to have the same plans, but it's completely out of the question for someone to play up to me.

30.11.2013 13:23, Albatus

A good place, in terms of marine life, one of the best in the ROC. Phuket.
Similan is still open, but there are no hotels.

30.11.2013 13:44, alex017

Thank you for your kind words. I kept thinking about going to that island last time, but I didn't make up my mind.
I think that there are at least yolks there. Last time I wanted to collect strombuses and turbans (I don't remember the name), but there was nothing. Yes, and just look....after all, you can do this all day long!

30.11.2013 14:35, Albatus

There are a lot of seashells there, mostly at depths of up to 5-7 m.
There are also quite a few species on the dry land near the water, look at the rocks(in cracks, etc.).
The corals are fine too yes.gif
I advise you to swim from the south side of the island, there is a tiny beach, see on the map. Near the hotel, most likely everything is knocked out.

But as always I have one problem: this is my inability to swim)))))))))

By the way, I saw Krayt there,

I'll go out at low tide looking for some goodies. I hope I find it))

Again I went to Tai, Krabi province, from April 14 for 12 nights.
Every night there were rains or thunderstorms, so fishing for light failed. There were a lot of mosquitoes in the forest.
