Good evening!
Two days ago, the caterpillar of chervonets unpaired pupated. How long does the pupal stage last in this species and when to wait for the butterfly? smile.gif

Caught a female cabbage patch, and collected from her grena, grena on rapeseed, rapeseed in a glass of water, what to do next? Maybe now you can make a "house-feeder" this one with a bottle and a jar? Or do you need to transfer the eggs to a new plant? I don't want to just lose almost all the geese, as I often do=) And yet, I noticed how the rapeseed whiting was debugging eggs, I also took that plant. And after how long will the tracks come out?

Of course, now!
If the plant is normal, then there is no need to transfer it to a new one.
Caterpillars in whiteflies come out in about 5-6 days.

I ran into a problem when removing polyxene - half of the butterflies did not harden their wings. Fully straightened out, but hung out like a spaniel's ears - is this a disease or a matter of temperature/humidity? The pupae were kept on the glazed loggia.

Tell me what to feed the caterpillar of the bear kaya?

15.06.2011 13:12, Nina

And after the pupa has formed in the ground (at home), should it be dug out and left on the surface of the ground, or is it better not to touch it? The pupa is now covered with about 1 centimeter of earth, the walls are still quite soft, 5 days ago it pupated (Hawk moth). In the same "container" is now placed another of the same caterpillar, a week as the egg hatched. Eats everything very intensively, if you dig out the cocoon that has formed, then the young caterpillar will not damage it? Do hawkmoth birds not experience cannibalism in non-natural conditions?

See URL#12
Pupa needs peace. It doesn't need the surface of the earth at all. smile.gif

If you don't want to take any chances, always move the caterpillars away from the pupae to another cage. And the caterpillars themselves are safer to keep one piece per cage. It's not even necessarily cannibalism, just one caterpillar burrowing or building a cocoon, can interfere/damage another, which is already preparing to pupate.

Too late to answer)) But it may still come in handy))
CODECaterpillars are polyphages, feeding on the leaves of various types of herbaceous and shrubby plant species. Main forage plants: raspberries, blackberries, viburnum, honeysuckle, heather, hogweed, droc. They also feed on the leaves of such species as apple, strawberry, pear, plum.
But I have a new question smile.gifI caught Argynnis pandora, a female, what do I need to do to make her lay eggs? I caught her when she was just resting on a piece of paper. For example, cabbage, sat in the aquarium, and did not want to debug the eggs in any way, although there were a lot of plants, then I noticed that during feeding, she laid several eggs. I took it and took it out of the aquarium and just let it go on the curtain, brought the plants to it and it successfully debugged 1-2 eggs with each presentation) Maybe with this one as well?

Hi,
I am looking for someone in Russia who has same hobby as me:Butterfly breeding.I bred aspecially Zerinthini /Allancastria,Zerinthia,Archon.../ from mediteranean region.
daniel from Slovakia

What do I need to do to get her to lay her eggs?

Plant in a cage made of a large grid, put a forage plant inside and take it out in the sun. Feed the female at least once a day.

Please tell me whose caterpillar is this?
Similar to Lasiocampa trifolii. It is good form to indicate the place and date of collection, in addition, there is a separate topic for determining caterpillars.

I did so, set up a feeding plant, and every day I changed the thistle in bloom on which the butterflies fed. ..... Maybe this is due to the fact that the butterflies were in the shade under the walnut tree?
In the shade, they are unlikely to procrastinate. We need the sun.
Forage plant-violets. Not thistle.

Hyphantria cunea

They can, but they can starve to death. And they can also pupate.
What to do with them (caterpillars) has already been described in this topic.

And now you can.

Swallowtail cabbage without interest. Plant umbrella plants and wait for the caterpillars to start up. And it is better to go and look for them in nature. For example, in the Crimea last summer, all the stallions were decorated with swallowtail caterpillars.

should I bring out my butterfly or not?

26.06.2011 14:53, KingSnake

Hello! I now have 4 large harpy caterpillars living at home. Very successfully feed on young poplar leaves... Apparently soon they will already be pupating. In this regard, the question is-do I need to equip the cage in any additional way? Well, put a stick there or put a certain layer of earth on it? I will be grateful for your answers, as I really want to bring out butterflies.

I didn't equip it in any way. Pupated among the leaves.

If the cage is made of cloth, you don't need to do anything, if the cage is a plastic or glass container, it is better to hang strips of crumpled paper on the walls of the cage reaching to the bottom of the cage, so that the released butterfly can climb on them and catch on, otherwise there is a high probability of damage to the wings when

Hello! I recently (3 days ago) caught a hives caterpillar. On the first day of capture, the nettles were fresh, but in the following days I simply did not have the opportunity to pick fresh ones. The caterpillar crawled all the time, on branches, on the ground, in general everywhere. And now I found her in the pose of a pre-cap (hanging upside down on a branch, while bending the front part up). Is there a chance of withdrawal? Maybe she was "underpaid"? Is it possible to put the pupa in the refrigerator from 02.06 to 16.07, so as not to miss the moment when the butterfly comes out (during this time, the butterfly can hatch, and then die)??? Thank you all for your answers!

29.06.2011 6:00, cherepahovod

I found a chrysalis today. So what do you think of my previous message?

29.06.2011 13:07, okoem

On the first day of capture, the nettles were fresh, but in the following days I simply did not have the opportunity to pick fresh ones.

In order not to dry, you need to put it in water. Also, you need to immediately tear with a reserve and store in the refrigerator.

Is there a chance of withdrawal?

Yes.

Is it possible to put the pupa in the refrigerator from 02.06 to 16.07, so as not to miss the moment when the butterfly comes out (during this time, the butterfly can hatch, and then die)???

You can, but, in my opinion, for a month and a half in the refrigerator, the pupa will die.

Oh, the typo is out. Not from the 2nd iu n I, but from the 2nd iu l I)) Thanks for the answer! Now I will put the pupa in the refrigerator in a vegetable box. There +13 gr.
