So it's too early for them yet.

what are the signs of pupation? On the forum, I read that this is mobility and stopping food consumption. And what else, because the caterpillars are motionless, it's cold, and the experiments are always in the bank. How do I find out what kind of molt a caterpillar has had?

10.09.2011 11:23, Olleg12

the caterpillar began to spin a web around the entire jar what does this mean? Here are photos of the largest cobwebs, others are very small.

Hello everybody!
I found a lilac hawk moth caterpillar today. Och I want to bring out a butterfly )))

Can you tell me how to take care of her and how to find out what age (period) she is? When will it pupate, if any?...

Thank you.

11.09.2011 18:29, natanaelle

my caterpillar's head is too big, maybe it's a false caterpillar?

11.09.2011 18:49, natanaelle

I found something similar in the Net, my caterpillar is similar to Helicoverpa armigera, just it could crawl out of corn or tomatoes, experts will dispel my doubts ?

This morning I discovered that my hawk moth's back was darkened. Is this something wrong?

Recently, I have pupated a Milkweed Hawk moth caterpillar. Will the butterfly come out this year or what? And what do you need to do to get out this year?

13.09.2011 11:47, solnyshko a

I poured my friend "Lilac Hawk Moth" into a bucket of earth, mixed it with leaves - she, the caterpillar, calmed down and buried herself inside! Went to pupa up? )))

Peacock-eyed pear flew out 42 weeks after pupation. How long does this one take?"?

13.09.2011 21:10, Pollame

I'm sorry, I probably could have found the answer to my question on the previous pages, but I didn't have the patience to read 22 pages so far.
Here's the question.
I have three pupae of Saturnia pavonia, small Peacock eyes, all have a different history, two were obtained from pupated caterpillars found, the other was simply found on the plant, all in different places. One is not in the Sverdlovsk region, but in the Chelyabinsk region in a contaminated area. As I understand it, pupae need to overwinter - what conditions should be made for them to overwinter faster?
And there is also one Harpy pupa, it is not quite clear which one(I can put a photo of the caterpillar), it was pulled out of the cocoon, but the cocoon was left (to check its viability).
What can I do to make a butterfly come out of it?
Thank you very much!

So it is developing.

When it binds itself to the substrate with a silkworm, then it will pupate.
What kind of molt is determined by the size of the caterpillar.

Comfortable.

You identified it correctly.

This morning I discovered that my hawk moth's back was darkened. Is this something wrong?

This means that it has finished feeding and wants to pupate.

Yes, that's right.

It's okay, there's no hurry, be patient and read, read... Winter is long.

Good day, please help me determine, Ukraine, Chernivtsi?

They look like a Hole. But in general, the caterpillars are defined in a different topic. And the feed plant must be specified.

This is a hole. The species appears to be Phalera bucephala.

Thank you very much!

I did this:
I kept it on the balcony, and after the new year I took it to the apartment, only first in the refrigerator for a few days, and then in room temperature, so that the temperature did not change very sharply. In January, butterflies flew out.

Thank you very much! I'll do that!
I still have a pupa of the bedstraw hawk moth, his brother I have one flew out a long time ago, but he pupated earlier, if this one will spend the winter, then how best to put it? Into the Ground or what? And there is also a cocoon with a fragrant woodworm, they gave it to me, there is a twisted cocoon, but the previous owner said that he did not pupate but just sits there and if you shake it crawls out and comes back. Well, I didn't know how to shake. But I think-he also needs to spend the winter?

Yes, that's right.

Thank you so much, okoem!!!
You gave me great advice last time, thanks to which I was able to bring out the Peacock-eyed pear )))

I want to ask you something else: how long does pupation take for a Lilac Hawk moth? What conditions does it need to create? Will he have a diapause (I've read a lot of opinions here) and what is its duration?

16.09.2011 0:56, okoem

After you dig in, wait about a week and you can dig out the pupa. If I ate from the egg itself, I probably would have come out without diapause. And since I was fed "on the street", I think there will be a diapause until spring.
Conditions - if it doesn't work out in the next couple of weeks, put it in a cool place for the winter.

What does "a lot of time"mean? Three hours? Three months? Either too early or dead. What exactly is the problem?

a toothed-winged owl (Soliopteryx libatrix) flew into the apartment with what to feed it?, how long do they live ?, do they hibernate ?

17.09.2011 7:52, Olleg12

The night has already passed and nothing has happened, why and how to check if she is still alive?

17.09.2011 8:07, Olleg12

I tore off 1 caterpillar and touched it ,it twitches, but here's the problem, how to attach it back?

17.09.2011 12:13, Olleg12

Hooray about an hour after I tore it off, it pupated. There was water where she did it, I had to pull it out,I couldn't damage it.Here is a photo of the pupa that has already changed color. And also, there are a couple of cracks on it,is this normal?

The species goes into hibernation (hibernates in the state of imago). You don't need to feed them anymore.

Not normal. I shouldn't have pulled it off.

Araschnia levana pupated on July 23 and 24. I was waiting for the pupae to be blown out in August, but this didn't happen, didn't they go early for wintering at the end of July?I take it butterflies wait in mid-April?

18.09.2011 2:40, infiltrator

The species goes into hibernation (hibernates in the state of imago). You don't need to feed them already.
thank you for your answer, do you need to create any special conditions for hibernation ?, for example, a darkened place, the temperature is plus 15, something like that.
And another question, do I need to put a drinking bowl ?, I read that some butterflies drink

18.09.2011 7:50, Olleg12

Not normal. I shouldn't have pulled it off.

and what about her now, will she live?Sorry, I'm just a newbie,I just have to make mistakes.

18.09.2011 7:52, Olleg12
