14.05.20, b. in the west of Berislav

Not for the first time, I was caught in such weather when the sky was overcast. The wind was also strong. But then, in comparison with April, the drought ended in May. And interestingly, according to media reports, May of this year was exactly the same temperature as it was 30 years ago. It really wasn't hot. There were few mace-whiskered butterflies. The number of draughts players was particularly low compared to previous years. I only got a few.

You may not have been hot in May, but we have a PPC as cold and wet. I've been out in the field a few times in a month, and I've never been out in the rain without getting caught. I don't know what happened 30 years ago (I used to walk under the table then), but in my adult life, May has never been so rotten.

Here, of course, you can't see much, but I think it's still rapae. The area of mannii is really rapidly expanding, but still it is far from Ukraine. smile.gif

Hello everyone
In Moldova, finally a decent plus - +19, and I'm in Ialoveni. True, I'm not on an expedition, but just helping my relatives build a private house. As an adult male, still fit to carry heavy loads.
Still, I managed to wander through the abandoned fields and a drying walnut orchard that adjoined the construction site. There are a lot of animals, I was only surprised by the complete absence of T-shirts and especially dorcash - tauricums and holoseritseums have been crawling in the city for a long time. The wanderers were crowned with three finds, each of which fully compensated for the completely non-exciting dragging from place to place of some pipes, boards and packages with ceramic tiles.
1. On the side of the road caught Lixus angustus. I have a single echo instance caught about ten years ago. Now there will be two. Series. So red all over, like from the picture. By the way, lixus subtilus was also caught. Also not the most frequent of lixuses.
2. Bothynoderes affinis was found on the edge of alfalfa arable land. I have never caught it in Moldova! I didn't catch it anywhere at all. There are three copies from the Crimea for exchange. I didn't expect it. Full of hope, I walked around the perimeter of this alfalfa plot, but.....
3. And most importantly. Towards the end, a beetle was seen among the sparse grass, which I blindly and in a hurry took for a small and worn-out Stephanocleonus nigrosuturatus. They can already be found in the city, and I do not take this type on trips. But there was still about a 4% chance that it was another beetle. And these 4% played! I could see him at home with my armed eye. It turned out... Stephanocleonus microgrammus Gyllenhal, 1834.
Here's what I found about him in the Red Data Book of the Rostov region: "Extremely rare throughout its range"!
"Oh, like this? my inner voice asked.
"Yes, that's it! I told him.
Tomorrow I will try to take a picture of it and post it in the "Definitions" (or link). Even if it's not him, but something similar, it's still great! I don't even have anything like it.
Good luck to all.
Bugs don't end!

The version of Stephanocleonus microgrammus was confirmed.

Hello everyone
I liked the Yaloveni "steppes" - close, cheap and angry. Moreover, the weather is gradually improving, all the green biomass has rushed up and out, why go for 100 km, if 5 km from Chisinau there are waist-high weeds!!??
So, I went to Ialoveni today to check the traps, change the infernal liquid in them, well, based on the foot catch. The first trophy - another Stephanocleonus microgrammus fell into the cup! But microgrammus has already passed the stage, the highlight of the expedition was a small red bug with a simple black pattern. It was perched on a curly poppy bush, and I took it for an unpainted Entomoscelis adonidis, such specimens are found-with black stripes missing on the sides of the elytra. But no, they don't happen often. However, after a few meters, a couple of the same ones met in an intimate situation. There was no point in taking any more, since adonides wasn't much of a catch. However, soon real adonidis began to catch the eye, at surepka and in large quantities. But all of the normal suit. Eh! Said Pyotr Ivanovich and I. I decided to get confused and specifically ran around the nearby poppies and found two more "under-painted" ones. A total of 5 pieces. And it turned out that it was not in vain-lovers of sex in the thicket of poppies turned out to be Entomoscelis suturalis!! I don't know, maybe it's not much, but it's a new species for me. It doesn't happen every day.
By the way, the cups, only 4 pcs., were put not on a microgrammus, but on a small zhuzhlo. But apart from four (in 10 days) Harpalus (Harpalophonus) hospes, nothing interesting camefrown.gif from hospices?? But hospices...!!
A family of Baris timida was caught on something mallow-like, finally found on a food plant. And on the wormwood bush - a few pieces of Baris artemisiae. And some baris, long and blue. In the sense of color.
3 types of muddy larins and 4 types of lixuses were removed from different semi-thorny weeds. Including a couple of unusually large Lixus myagri - just 3 and 4 of my finds of this species. Unless, of course, there is an error in the definition. But all this holy subfamily in its entirety will go to Ukraine in the fall, I hope, for identification.
Well, plus any interesting trifle, of which the smallest was the Trachys gold plate of the puncticollis type, dark bronze, 2.5 mm. Also a new look for me!
As well as small elephants, leaf beetles, ladybirds and so on.
Everything, a glass of tea and sleep! Tomorrow we will go to Rezeny!!
Good luck to all.
Bugs don't end!

Hello everyone
Sasha and I are back in Ialoveni, changing the infernal mixture in the soil traps, staring at all sorts of drooping thistles, self-seeding poppies and other mouse peas. Yeah, I'm pretty good at botanysmile.gif
The traps stood for 20 days, and of course, they were clogged with earth and all sorts of garbage. And the constant rain had drenched them almost to the brim. But from this slush, I managed to immediately scrape out a very valuable beetle for me - Laemostenus terricola. I have this view, but in a single copy, very old. And here's the second one! Like any trap bug, it quickly dried up and I took a picture of it.
There were a lot of things sitting on the weeds, including almost a full set of domestic lixin. For scientific purposes, I took only a few copies, and at home, among the taken ones, I found such a lixus. And I didn't recognize it. I give you two photos, top and bottom. Can someone tell me the type.
On some sagebrush-like bushes, two species of baris were found. The first one is presumably Labiaticola sibirica (a new species for me), and some small blue-purple, elongated shape, beetles were sitting three stories high on this bush. Here is a photo of the bush.
Milkweed disappointed. There were many of them, sometimes entire glades. But there is practically no one on them, just a few flies, ants, and eels. One small beetle is Clytus rhamni. But I don't give up on milkweed yet. I think in a week the weather will settle down, these flowers will still show themselves.
At home, I washed the putty extracted from the cups. Two Sphenoptera cuprina were found, one without a head. I never found the headfrown.gif. Soaped a couple of Trachyphloeus (from turmeric), like T. alternans. But so far this option has not been confirmed. Another type of Nephus, with two large orange spots on each nape, is probably redtenbacheri.
As they walked to the car, thunder broke out. But we got off with a long uphill race. The downpour started when they were already lighting cigarettes in the shelter. Here it is Happiness!!!
Good luck to all!
The beetles don't end.

Lixus punctiventris Boheman, 1836 (=abdominalis) has been identified with a polka - dot belly. A new look for me!

Hello everyone.
Today we went to Capriany to set up several drainage traps on the bronzevok, and see the "firewood" - stacks of lime-beech-oak logs, which have been stored for many years on several old clearings. This place is called the Plateau for some reason. But it was immediately clear that the firewood was finally being taken up, the road to the clearings was broken by trucks, all in deep ruts. In the ruts-puddles, and in the puddles shields. Healthy, like crayfish for 5 rubles, surfaced from the murky depths, and sank back.
However, for some reason there was more firewood than there was. And there were new completely cut-down areas. The old stacks remained in place, apparently they no longer represent commercial value. fresh food is taken out. But Rosalia Alpina is not as much as last year, although a dozen still met. Xylotrechus antilope and Lamprodila rutilans with inclusions from Dicerca alni and Agrilus graminis mostly hung out on logs. Standard set for these places. When I caught three of these commoners at a time, I gave it up. I switched to a close study of the bark, cracks and creases in the wood in search of small beetles-my favorite Anobiidae, Bostrichidae, Cleridae, Scolytidae, Anthribidae, Colydiidae and various others. In fact, they inspire long-distance travel. And here, by the way, I came across a large Bostrichus capucinus. To whom banal, and I have the fourth find of all time. A new species for me came across from bark beetles - Anisandrus dispa. And anobiidik got into trouble-Ptilinus pectinicornis. A male with a gorgeous mustache. And there's something else I haven't identified yet.
Of the three Lamprodila rutilans caught, by the way, one turned out to be L, decipiens. I haven't seen them in ten years. There are only a couple from Vadul lui Vod, with fresh poplar logs.
On the way back, two large swimmers were seen in a puddle from the track. I decided to catch both of them with a single throw of the net. But, as they say, you can chase two swimmers... There was no time to wait for them to surface. I had to sink up to my elbows in the muck, without much hope. And yet I caught one!! It turned out to be Acilius canaliculatus, a large female. And I
had only one male of this species from the Omsk region. And here's a couple for him!
I'll spend another hour trying to figure out some small things, and when the beer runs out, I'll go to bed.

P.S. Bugs don't end!

Hello everyone
And here. So I'm walking home from the store tonight, and suddenly I can't believe my eyes in the next yard - a giant insect is sitting on the curb. I thought at first that the bug is ordinary, but a good habit of looking closely worked, it turned out to be otiorinhus. But joy was slow to take hold of my entire being. Details in the twilight and with pronounced hyperopia were not visible. There was a chance that it was a common ligustici, which I don't take for a long time, unless they fall into the trap. And I just took a picture, obviously not ligustici! Who - I don't know yet, right now I'll make myself a coffee, take a cigarette and start determining how! I'll define it!! Maybe someone who recognizes the bug immediately, tell me, and then I'll compare the results. The beast is 13 mm tall without a pipe.
I almost forgot.
Bugs don't end!
Oh, I've already identified it as Otiorhynchus armadillo (Rossi, 1792). A new view for me. Why should fools be so happy?

Good day to all! I went from 18.08 to 19.08 to the chalk quarry. Donetsk region of the DPR, Amvrosievsky district, village.Novoamvrosievskoe, catch a scoop at night. It wasn't very old, as the weather changed before our eyes, and it rained three times during the night. Cotton scoops and meadow moths filled the screen. There were also some praying mantises that I hadn't seen before, two females and about eight males. During the day, I walked around the neighborhood, met more than a dozen akridas. A lot of butterflies flew, there were already beaten Damon's pigeons, there were a lot of yellows, whiteflies and tongues, there were a few fresh fuciformis, the third generation, I didn't catch them as unnecessary. I also found two crawfish caterpillars, one of which immediately buried itself in the jar and wove a cocoon under the old leaves. Please tell me the name of the praying mantis!

Hello again
, the story of the discovery of Otiorhynchus armadillo has been continued. It is clear that it was completely random, and we all have such surprise city meetings. And there is no point in returning to the places of these finds and looking for something there (although it pulls). However, after catching the beetle, I looked at two things online-the range and the food plant. It turned out that for Moldova armadilla is not indicated (for Romania it is indicated), but in general it is a European species that tends to the Mediterranean. And it is a pest for various nurseries that grow all sorts of decorative crap. Then I remembered that the yard where I'd found the beetle was actually the street that the iron fence of the condo building overlooked. Immediately behind the fence along the inner perimeter are planted thuja-freaks, common in such pretentious places. Almost certainly they were brought from the nursery with briquettes of earth on their roots. And it is possible that just from Romania. Conclusion - it is necessary to go there again, and suddenly...
Without much hope, I made a long detour back from the store, and the first thing I saw in that exact spot was an Armadilla crushed to dust. Feeling ambivalent, I carefully collected the remains. A few meters later, something completely unimaginable crawled out on the sidewalk right in front of me. Naturally, it was in my hand in a second. And then it broke up into a pair, a male and a female Otiorhynchus armadillo. Here are the cases.
But the beetles still don't end!

And what is there now blooming, okromya golovchatki Uralskoy, caught in the picture? By the way, at the thickets of this golovchatka it was possible to walk around at night with a flashlight. Scoops are very fond of it, including those that are reluctant to fly into the light. Are there any plentiful umbelliferous thickets here?

PS I saw an oak grove in the photo, but it is not clear whether it has already faded or is still blooming. There should be a lot of wasps on the blooming one...

Today I went to my favorite village, to the park.
I got up at 6: 00, packed up and went. Around 8 I was already there and went to look for insects, so it was interesting, exciting, and explored new places for myself, saw female roe deer for the first time, caught a caterpillar of a rural bear and I will bring it out. I caught 3 odorous staphylins, 2 scoops of sp., olenka and caught a yolk with my hands.
There were more impressions than the catch itselfwink.gif

Dear colleagues, good afternoon!

We are continuing the Russian Science Foundation's project on invasive pests in the south of Russia. Part of the project is a genetic analysis of the pathways of invasion of the brown marble bug Halyomorpha halys in the European part of Russia (and more broadly - in Europe).
In this regard, we need specimens of adult bedbugs and/or larvae of this species caught in nature in different regions of Russia and in other countries. Ideally-15-25 individuals from one region, but even 1-3-5 is also better than 0.

Now I still see that there is almost nothing from Ukraine (except for the Crimea).

Does no one have the opportunity to collect in Ukraine?

In addition to Ukraine, we are particularly interested in the following regions and countries: Chechnya, Dagestan, Volgograd, Astrakhan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Armenia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Poland, Moldova, Turkey, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Romania, Portugal.

If you have the opportunity to collect (in alcohol, in vodka, keep in the cold, better individually or from one point in one test tube; or even dry material) and send it to me, I personally would be very grateful.

Now is the perfect season - they just fly into the houses to spend the winter. Winter is better in alcohol!

If you have good contacts in the listed regions or countries, please write to them, or send me your contact details and I will write to them myself.

Hoping for help,
DM

Hello everyone
In Chisinau, for several days now, as the temperature reaches 7-8 degrees, some flies, ladybirds, soldiers have been flying around. And today for lunch the sun warmed up and I met a cheerful male T-shirt purple on the sidewalk!
Spring is creeping,

It's hard on my soul, but I have to work.
Hello everyone.
In Moldova, winter is over, but spring has not come. Slightly less than zero at night, slightly more during the day. But in March I received a parcel from Belarus, for exchange. 15 mattresses (three of them in the photo) from Vitebsk, Gomel and Minsk regions, undisclosed training camps for the last two seasons. That's what I hunt in. Here you will find manual harvesting, mowing, window traps, and catching in the light. In how! The season hasn't started yet, but it's already a success.
For three weeks of "fees" skimmed cream. Two copies of emus hirtus, as many as three Selatosomus cruciatus-I have long wanted to get them, and here it is! As well as Actenicerus sjaelandicus, which, although presented in a single piece, but it is! And incredible sithonins Charagmus gressorius! I had the privilege of taking a close look at sitonini last fall, and was surprised to find that I had seven types of them, and now I've found the eighth one, and what a great one at that. Plus the ninth one-Belarusian Sitona lineatus. A couple of new b. cows for me - Calvia decemguttata. Recently, I have not been happy with new types of cows, and here is such a big guy! And the amazing beetle Zeugophora subspinosa (highlighted in red)from Megalopodids, a superfamily with leaf beetles.
In short, a complete, final feast! So far, 17 new species and another two dozen undefined ones have been caught from the mattresses, these will also all be new species, you just need to sit over them properly.
And the most interesting thing is ahead - whole deposits of small weevils, staphylines, leaf beetles, ground beetles, floaters, water lovers, aphodia.
In the photo - two boxes of fees, and three biotopes.
The beetles don't end.
Glory to the coleopter!

I didn't know... I extend my condolences to his family and everyone who knew Vasily. I-only in absentia, but I've seen a lot of his photos and read his messages - am one of the best forum participants. Very sad news...

It's hard on my soul, but I have to work.
Hello everyone.
In Moldova, winter is over, but spring has not come. Slightly less than zero at night, slightly more during the day.

If the sky is clear, then in such weather around noon on the steppe slopes with a southern exposure, there can be very good beetle catches, including those that you still need to look for at other times of the year.

Yes, there are such places nearby. There, both in late autumn and early spring, rich harvests are collected. Some of the items found in other places don't come across at all. I look around, but it's still too cold, and the sun is a rare visitor so far.

Namesake... I didn't know either. We met at exhibitions. May he have the Kingdom of heaven.

No, given the sun's elevation, it's not too cold anymore. Many people do not even suspect that at a slightly negative temperature in the shade, in the sun, insects can simply swarm! But yes, if it's overcast, it's a bummer.

I welcome you all. I also opened the season, very superficially so far, but still opened it.
Interesting places. western coast of the Republic of Moldova, near the Costesti-Stynka reservoir, between the villages of Pochumbeuti and Duruitoarea, along the Chiuhur River. It was cold. it's windy, but still life pushes through the barriers)

Hello everyone.
We don't stay at home either. We go to the pharmacy. And just now I'm going home and I'm watching everything running, crawling and flying around. Traditional spring banals. And suddenly, in the midst of this urban splendor, a certain ontophagus is found (on the asphalt). Lemur!! I met and caught lemurs back in 2017 in the remote village of Balmaz. For the only time in my practice. They were eating out the inside of sheep pellets. How did he end up and what did he do in the center of a residential neighborhood?
And on the wall of the house something so green shone. I was completely taken aback - Cassida kanalikulata! I've never seen her anywhere but Resen. there it is found singly and in herds on a low curly weeds. A beautiful beetle, still alive, green as grass. Then it gets bronzed like old Peter's denga.
Bugs don't end!

Hello everyone, to your attention last year's season in the Crimea.

Great photos! Sorry, without specifying places and dates.

18.04.2022 9:28, Kiseliov

I welcome everyone, we continue the season, unfortunately the weather is not happy at all, but little by little the forest is gaining juice and the animal is also active as it can...waiting for the thaw)
This time I took a walk along the well-trodden paths between the villages of Capriyana and Kozhushna.
