February 15, 2009
Temperature +10 ... 12, thick clouds, calm.
I took a walk in the vicinity of Feodosia.
The first thing I saw was an adult caterpillar Nebula ablutaria. Nebula achromaria
20090215_104433.jpg
A little later, another caterpillar was caught Arctia festiva

Biotope.

I go ashore. Gifts of the sea.

Sea.

I climb back up the ridge, bird's eye view.

20090215_130502.jpg

The last evergreens bloom here.
20090215_133039.jpg

And nearby, in a bottle left by someone, hidden treasure.
20090215_135831.jpg
In addition, there were three species of wasps, similar to bag butterflies, sawflies, a couple of dipteran species, and bedbugs. Poor thing, but not surprising in this gray weather.

I have already been to the Carpathians 10 times, every year I go, in truth in spring or summer, but I have not caught such a large number.
In 10 years of travel, there are only 4 people. I mean the Carabus intracatus.

Yes, I mostly fished in Transcarpathia in the Rakhiv region, where C. intracatus is rare,
but there are many other species of Carabus.

Does anyone know how to find a catchy spot or do you need to check all the places in the forest (all slopes, parts) to find out the question?
And can it be that in a few meters there may be a difference in the catch?
Maybe you can find something on the confused.gif wall.gifmap (where there is dense vegetation or a southern slope)

Photo notes – "Life under the bark"

"And the wasps are all fertilized queens?" "They're the only ones who overwinter, aren't they?"
- Why are there so many of them in the same list? "Just going to spend the winter in a convenient place , or is it all the brood from one nest?"

19.03.2009 16:46, Egorus

For Andreas
, where there are a lot of wasps, these are working individuals wintering near the nest, which
presumably was in the sawn-off part of a branch with a hollow.

Where one wasp is a female, but of a different species.

The butterfly overwinters, as in N. xanthomelas, N. antiopa, etc. Excellent
condition after wintering is quite acceptable.
Beautifully described in the topic about antiopa

And today we have +5,snow is blowing...I stopped on my way to the pine forest...since there was nothing, I broke off the bark with my hands and found a staphylin larva that was almost pupated,I raked off the moss with a stick and found 2 cocoons of some small shovels, it is clearly visible that the wings glow green, so the grandmothers should come out soon...

We tried to open the season on 21.03,the weather, of course, is non-flying (+4), but we can't wait any longer.
There is almost no summer-5 E. transversa, 1-A. pilosaria, 1-A. aescularia, 1-D. fagella, a couple of leafhoppers on trees, two floaters and some other interesting little beetle, a few diptera-that is, almost nothing, but the season is open .
And to the question of what flies better. Left lamp 250 DRV 250 with bluish light+on the other side of the screen 30watt bakterotsydnaya. Right -250 DRV with a yellowish color. Lamps are located at 90 degrees.
On the right flew all the beetles , one scoop , alsophila and diurnea, everything else on the left. Statistics really no ..
Caught from 18 to 20, until we got home it snowed and the temperature dropped to 0.

Another small report. smile.gif
March 17. About +10, light wind, partly cloudy. Surroundings of Feodosia. Route-Karadag biostation-Ashlamalyk-ur. Lisya Bay - Echki-Dag.
At the biological station, I dropped by for a couple of minutes to see Yu. I. Budashkin. There is almost always a lepidoptera sitting near its doors - this time three pieces of Agriopis marginaria were found.
On the slopes of Ashlamalyk, Satyrus virbius caterpillars graze in large numbers in fescue mounds. There is also a wingless sawfly.
Fringed mulberry trees and Callie tulips bloom in Fox Bay.
A couple of dorcadions-Dorcadion cinerarium and Dorcadion sericatum - were found on the slopes of Echki-Dag, as well as the mining stem moth Digitivalva christophi.

And the last, third report.
March 22, near Feodosia. Around +10, clear, quite strong and very cold wind.
There was a caterpillar Eilema caniola, covers (?)Stychobasis helicinoides minimus, caterpillars Melitaea cinxia, bedbugs Neides sp., lizards Lacerta taurica, various small animals running in the grass. Crocuses bloom, doubtful violet, spring adonis, rock double-seeded. Thin-leaved peony in buds.
In a remote place from the trails, I become a random witness of a pagan rite-on the temple people are praying loudly around the campfire: "I believe!..... I believe!......" Ah, yes, now it's the Equinox!
