On the heating main near the biofac there is already anemone lyutichnaya and chistyak) willow also seems to be on the way. Do you think that dream grass has already appeared in the habitats?

(Tonight near Penza there was a mass flight of birch silkworms.) I wonder if they are already flying to Belarus? "Who knows, gentlemen? I've only ever run into a good one of their years in my life...True, this was at the dawn of the hobby,12 years ago...I would like fresh ones.

This is "Lumbago" which? Unfortunately, I couldn't find it at home. But the weather (where there is) should get out. I just remember from Transbaikalia: as soon as the snow comes down, it blooms. There is a lot of it there, but we have a very local one probably?

It is still early, at this time (phenologically) in the PTZ, for example, it is not yet available.

About the dream-grass, I can say that last Thursday I saw one low bush with buds in a dry, warmed-up clearing. I haven't been there since, but it's been more than a week - it could have bloomed. Point - 30 km south of Polotsk, Vitebsk region. Google coordinates 54.923122, 28.908155

Today I got out for three hours in familiar places near the city of Kohma, Ivanovo region. Caught from 12 to 15. The sun was almost nonexistent, and a few small drops of rain fell from the sparse clouds. The temperature is about 19 degrees.
There were few female students. Only a few males of the spring birch were caught. A standard set of overwintering animals was observed among the Bulavous. We managed to catch a female Nymphalis antiopa in fairly good condition.
In the birch forest, I picked Lycia hirtaria from the trees, if I'm not mistaken, of course. I'm not good with different sawyers. 3 females, the remaining males (8 pieces) with fluffy whiskers. Among the males there was an interesting dark specimen with almost black underparts. Maybe a different view, after the unpacking it will be necessary to understand.
I also took a couple of Orthosia gothica males and females from the trees. A couple of Achlya flavicornis. One pufferleg has a larger spot on the forewing than is usual in its relatives.
I took a couple of other scoops, but I can't identify them yet. After straightening the box.
Like that. Almost a couple of dozen different sawyers without any light, problems with lamps, throttles, etc. smile.gif

April 22, Oryol neighborhood, Luzhki settlement. On the road to balka in the forest park, there are many peacock eyes, angloptera and not a single hive...there are very few of them now.
In the steppe, everything is as it should be at this time-bunches of dream grass and adonis, green horses run. There are still a few insects, not counting bumblebees, of course.

23.04.2012 9:01, Romyald

If the food plant is a mystery, then what are you going to do next with these eggs? Yes, and if the butterfly is known (well, or at least with the application of certain efforts, you can determine), then you can also read about forage plants. Another question is whether it will be at the right moment at hand, but then what is the point of these eggs.

My task is to bring the offspring to Moscow, and there let the specialists puzzle over what kind of plant to feed the future starving people.

In mid-April, unlike in the previous spring, we decided to drive not to the south of the Lower Volga, but on the contrary-to the north, to the border with the Saratov region, and look for something that has not yet been found in the Volgograd region. First of all, Endromis versicolora, which theoretically could be found. And finally, to catch the imago of thorn Saturnia (so far it was only possible to deduce). The Guselsko-Teterevyatsky ridge in the Zhirnovsky district was chosen as the base.

IMG_0005.jpg

On April 14, under the forest belts, along the gullies, and in the forest on the ridge, there were still quite decent snowflakes, although the daytime temperature reached +20-22.
We are located in a very nice clearing not far from the village of Teterevyatka.
The parking lot offered a beautiful view of the southern borders of the Saratov region.
Crested grass, goose onions, and chistyak trees bloomed near the snowfields. On the old felled burning ground, we found a rare species - spring adonis.

During the day, Tentyria nomas, two or three Harpalus species crawled along the paths en masse, and Tropinota flew en masse (I don't write hirta, because it looks like we don't have hirta at all).
It was possible to find the mike Meloe rufiventris (Germar, 1832) (= coriarius Brandt & Erichs.) - thanks to Cerambyx for the correct definition.
IMG_2914.jpg

Archiearis parthenias was caught and photographed on a flowering willow tree. Of the mace-moustaches, anglewings, lemongrass, and polychrome flies were plentiful.

Archiearis_parthenias_IMG_2920.jpg

After lunch, when I was looking for an interesting angle to take a picture about a hundred meters away from the camp, I noticed a rather large red butterfly
that suddenly landed on a dried-up plant not far from me. The behavior was decidedly different from that of the nymphalids circling around.
What was my surprise and delight when I got closer and saw
the male Endromis sitting quietly. The first discovery of the species is always a pleasure!

IMG_0011f.jpg
IMG_0009.jpg

I must say that we did not manage to catch any endromis here, but during the day, in the lower part of the parking glade, we managed to catch 4 more specimens of males that actively flew along almost the same route in a couple of hours.
Years into the world pleased with its mass character.

27.04.2012 17:28, TEMPUS

Last weekend, from Saturday, April 21 to Monday, April 23, I again went to the dacha (Shuisky district, the village of Krasnoarmeyskoye).
On the first day (Saturday) it was very warm, even without a thermometer, it was felt that the temperature confidently exceeded the twenty-degree mark, but it was overcast, the sun only occasionally peeked out from behind the clouds. I arrived at the dacha in the morning and spent almost all the afternoon in the field. The route was as follows: along the edge of the forest I went to the neighboring village of Sergeyevo and then to the village of Kleshchevka, collecting lepidoptera along the way. The biotopes that were encountered on this path are, firstly, an abandoned agricultural field that was actively used for its intended purpose in Soviet times, but in the last twenty years it has been abandoned and as a result overgrown with various types of tree growth - birch, willow, aspen, alder, pine, fir trees, and secondly, a mixed forest. a forest whose character varies in different places: in some places birch trees predominate, in others aspens, in others coniferous species (spruce, pine), and in the area of the village of Sergeevo, among other things, there is a significant number of oaks. Despite the overcast weather prevailing on this day, there were a lot of butterflies, and they behaved very actively. First of all, a standard set of overwintered species was observed, including the mournbird, as well as both springbirds-in the mass of Archiearis parthenias (four males and three females were collected) and in the vicinity of the village of Sergeyevo, Archiearis notha was isolated (one male was collected). As for the latter species, it should be noted that I have never been able to catch this species at the dacha, in the vicinity of the village of Krasnoarmeyskoye. Of course, I had Archiearis notha in my collection before, but from a different place. A specimen of the moth Trichopteryx polycommata was also collected from an aspen trunk. But the most important butterfly on this day (this is the first and only specimen in my collection) was the moth Epirranthis diversata.

The night was very warm and overcast, with occasional light rain. The light was not just good, but very good. There were a great many butterflies, almost all the species that should be flying at this time arrived, with the possible exception of only a few species. There were dozens of lepidoptera flying around, and I had a hard time figuring out who was who and which ones should be left and which ones should be taken. Specimens of all species of scoops of the genus Orthosia arrived, with the exception of O. opima, and two of the freshest specimens of Orthosia miniosa were particularly pleasing. All four species of the genus Lithophane also arrived, including Lithophane ornitopus, which I mistakenly considered rare last weekend, since there were twelve of them that night alone. Conistra vaccinii, Eupsilia transversa, and Brachionycha nubeculosa were mostly found, while Conistra rubiginea, Anorthoa munda, Cerastis rubricosa, Scoliopteryx libatrix, and only one Cerastis leucographa were more rare. Biston stratarius, Lycia hirtaria, Apocheima pilosaria, Agriopis marginaria, and only two Apocheima hispidaria arrived in large numbers from the moth. Of particular note is the large number of Lycia pomonaria that was observed that night, as well as the following night. In just two nights, they collected 18 copies, while in the previous five years of active collections in the same place, only three copies were collected. What is the reason for the surge in the number of this species in the current year, is unclear.Achlya flavicornis scoops flew in large numbers. There were also quite a large number of Odontosia sieversi crested birds, of which twelve specimens were collected, and I was particularly pleased with the arrival of four Endromis versicolora specimens.

On the afternoon of the second day (Sunday), the weather was not much different from the first day. This time I decided to walk in a different direction, walking along the edge of the forest to the village of Polki. The same set of species flew as on the first day. Of interest, we should note the female Archiearis notha. It should also be noted that on this day, for the first time this year, I noticed some white squirrel of the genus Pieris (most likely napi).

On Sunday evening, heavy rain and thunderstorms passed, and it became noticeably colder. By nightfall, the sky cleared of clouds, and the night was clear. The flight was noticeably worse than the previous night. Worse in terms of the number of instances, but not in terms of the number of species. Even added a few more views that weren't there the previous night. The most important butterfly of the night, and indeed this weekend (and maybe the butterfly of the month) was a male fluffy cocoon Eriogaster lanestris. Finding this species in the Ivanovo region is a long-standing dream of mine, and now it's finally come true. During the previous five years of active training, I have never managed to meet this species, and now, this year I finally did. And what is most interesting, on the forum quite often there were references to the fact that Eriogaster lanestris is somehow connected with the upper swamps. So, there are no peat bogs in the vicinity of the village of Krasnoarmeyskoye (the nearest large peat bog is located 15 kilometers from Krasnoarmeyskoye-near the village of Volokobino), but Eriogaster lanestris, nevertheless, still flew in.

The set of scoops and moths on this night was noticeably the same as on the previous one, plus one copy of Panolis flammea scoops. Also that night, two specimens of Endromis versicolora (a female and a male) arrived.
