I liked this photo very much - it confirms my hypothesis about the connection of a strong tilt of the forehead in phytophilic orthoptera with providing a lower view. The photo clearly shows a false pupil, visible from below smile.gif

It is quite possible - but there are also Tachycines with several species - they, in my opinion, are now sometimes combined with Diestrammena in one genus.

Yes, they really were combined, but at the specified point, in theory, the same species should meet as ours, and the blacksmith is very similar in color to D. unicolor. The rest of our species (both Diestrammena and Paratachycines) are different in appearance.

In my opinion, the jump - Platycleis s. str. - ovipositor is like that of P. escalerai, long.

Is there any way to distinguish the larvae of the last stage of t.cantans and t.viridissima by their appearance?

20.10.2010 23:53, Vlad Proklov

Is there any way to distinguish the larvae of the last stage of t.cantans and t.viridissima by their appearance?

When I caught the viridissima nymph in the S-Prudsky district this year, I immediately realized what was in front of me by the downward-curved ovipositor and the oblong rudiments of the z. wings. The caudata probably doesn't have that kind of curl, but I don't know about the black spikes on the nymphs ' legs. The canthans have corny shorter rudiments of wings.

Oh, I see, so it's the wings. According to my observations from the Luhansk region (there are 2 species t.viridissima and t.caudata) in the nymphs of the last stages of caudates, in contrast to viridissima, black spines are always present and, accordingly, there is always no brown stripe on the pronotum, and white eyes are also distinguished, as in adults. And the females have a rather long ovipositor..Viridissim and Kantans have ordinary transparent eyes.
I found a photo here.

Please tell me, what kind of grasshoppers?
1)smile.gif Southern Crimea, near Foros. Mostly thickets and thorny bushes, the ovipositor seems to be bent at the top, the male's song is "psst" - "psst" - "psst"... Size -up to 2.5 cm in length. Jumping legs are well developed, the head is shaped like a white-fronted grasshopper. The sawyere is long. This blacksmith is not listed in the identifier, and I didn't find it on the Internet either... confused.gif (photos 1-5)
2)smile.gifSouthern Crimea, near Foros. Mostly thickets and prickly shrubs, the ovipositor is long, slightly bent up(pictured), the song is very similar to the song of the ashy bush, consists of rare "psst".Head like a white-fronted grasshopper. Mustache of medium length. It's missing in the caller ID, and an Internet search didn't yield any results.. eek.gif (photos 6-11)

Grasshopper #2 is clearly some kind of Pholidoptera. Probably Ph. pustulipes.
But # 1-most interestingsmile.gif, i.e. the tribe is clear-Platycleidini. There is an assumption that some short-winged representative of the genus Montana.

Regarding the Oedipoda: what color are the hind wings?

Special thanks to Vlad: he rocked the conversation smile.gifwith me "Oedipus criterion" simple - "step" on the back thigh. And then the color of the body was so unusual that I didn't even look at the thigh - which is why I sprinkle ashes on my head.

Well, let's just say the group of genera is clear. Nocarodes, Paranocaracris, and so on. I can't be more precise: although I've been to the Khosrov Nature Reserve, I haven't climbed high, and I haven't collected pamphagids.

By the way, where exactly were you there?

This photo is from the vicinity of Garni, a hill directly above the office of the reserve, low, 1700 approximately. And a little more was in the part that is in the Vedi district-in Gorowan and to the east.

I was there and there (in 1986 and 1987). I stayed with N. Martirosyan in Gorovan, then he was a forester. In Garni, I collected something - I remember saddlebags (Saga ephippigera) and Transcaucasian prussians (Calliptamus tenuicercis). Well, and combs (Pyrgodera armata). However, Thisoicetrinus pterostichus on the weeds on the Garni-Geghard road is also nothingsmile.gif, and in Goran, Sphingonotus nebulosus persa is impressive-well, and locusta on irrigated fields.

Yeah, I met the Kalliptamusovs there, but I thought they were italikusovs... shuffle.gif
And in Goran he lived in a tent smile.gif

01.11.2010 23:24, PVOzerski

There (in Garni) both were smile.gif- Italicus larger and with pink drumsticks of the hind legs, and tenuicercis-smaller and with yellow. And in Goran, the 3rd species lived-C. barbarus cephalotes. Oh, the times were.... smile.gif
