I will assume that this is a Lemonia dumi caterpillar that has lost its hairline before pupation. I just don't see any other options. If it were Dendrolimus sibiricus, there would be noticeable transverse mammary glands with small blue bristles.

Vadim, and maybe it's still Lasiocampa quercus ? The angle is not quite familiar, but it does not look like dumi. And the time of shooting horses in July - at this time dumi should already be pupae.

Sincerely, Grigoriev

Weekend, Tula region, a small birch-willow forest plantation in the middle of a grass meadow. Found near a spring (key) through which a flock of sheep passes, on the ground (probably a little battered by sheep, some of it was sluggish). What kind of hawk moth is this?

Most likely, poplar hawkmoth

I may be wrong, but it looks like the caterpillar of a silvery Hole. Garden pest: eats cherry, pear, and plum leaves.

By the way, yes, this then explains these whitish sublateral spots. Dumi was very far-fetched, oak is more logical. But it is strange that without a cocoon, and almost pronymph, maybe parasitirovannaya

Please help me identify three caterpillars, all collected recently from a broom tree on Nerskaya.

1. A healthy fool is a quarter shorter than my little finger. At first I thought pruinata was so weird, now it looks like Biston betularia, but do they have to be so big now? There doesn't seem to be anyone else with a similar head.

picture: DSC04376.JPG
picture: DSC04379.JPG

2. Slightly smaller than the previous one, but also quite big. Hypomecis punctinalis?

picture: DSC04382.JPG
picture: DSC04385.JPG

3. Small, it is generally unclear who, maybe, the bear or strelchatka.

What are the differences between larvae of the ocular hawk moth and linden moth moth? In middle age, especially.

What are the differences between larvae of the ocular hawk moth and linden moth moth? In middle age, especially.

These species have a different food supply:
- linden - alder-birch for linden hawk moth
-willow-aspen-poplar for eye hawk moth
.e, on what they found-that and the caterpillar :-)

The caterpillar of the ocellate can be confused with the caterpillar of the poplar hawk moth, the latter has a head without warts.

And see the appearance on the Internet.

Good luck!

20.08.2018 17:52, Evgenich

I would add an elm tree for the linden hawk moth. I found caterpillars on the elm tree more often than on the linden tree.
A characteristic difference between the caterpillars is that linden has a yellow (orange)color above the anal opening, just below the "horn". shield, but the ocular one doesn't have it

Please identify the tracks. Mowed down in a meadow on August 22, Leningrad region.
The size is less than 1 cm. I don't know what to feed you!

1-it looks like a young Clostera anastomosis, but I'm not sure, try feeding it with crested forage plants: poplar, willow. Maybe it will eat, sheds.
