What color should a net bag have? I've seen black, white, and khaki.
As I understand it, the color depends on the specifics of the fishing method?
I would like to hear informed opinions about the choice of a particular color, and whether the color is important at all? smile.gif

IMHO It depends on the fishing locations. Meadow - green, etc. In general, I usually use white. It doesn't really stand out. You can also use yellow , which I think is a tempting color for insects. I personally caught on white and yellow, the result is generally the same. Who are you going to catch?

I've heard that butterflies and probably other insects see the green net much worse (if not at all). But the green and black ones have a disadvantage - it's hard to see what's in the net. Therefore, white is the best option. It all depends on you and your skills!

I read somewhere that the dark color of the net scares butterflies less. I'm going to catch butterflies and dragonflies. I wonder how different the appearance of a white or black object will be for them.

Skill-absolutely. But the fact is that I have a good material for the bag, black color, the net is almost ready. I would not like to scare away flying and landingsmile.gif-so I ask about the color.

03.04.2007 6:33, Tyomochkin

I started with dragonflies. I caught dragonflies with a white bag mostly. But from yellow, they flew off very sharply, I noticed this. I didn't have time to approach, any dragonfly flies away. I think yellow scares them off. In general, I stop at white.

03.04.2007 8:16, Nilson

White is the most versatile (Kaabak even lured Parnassians to the Pamirs with such a net), green will also do, but black has never been used. Try it, Swansson, you'll be a trailblazer! In general, it all depends on what kind of material. I've seen dark gray nets from the bourgeoisie, but it's a fine quality net , so you can hardly see it.

03.04.2007 8:19, Zhuk

I started with white, but stopped at light green. Everything is clearly visible, even the smallest detail. Dragonflies don't seem to get scared(they don't have timesmile.gif). But this is the first time I've heard about yellow.

03.04.2007 10:25, entomolog

I used white and green. There is no difference, except that the dirt is more noticeable on white.

This is the second year I've been using a black net with a very fine mesh. I am very happy, to be honest, and I have never noticed an insect scare yet. My choice is black, and with a high-quality grid, believe me, everything is very clearly visible.

03.04.2007 14:13, lepidopterolog

I've been using a black mosquito net for 4 years now. Through it, everything is perfectly visible, it is not soiled and does not frighten insects. Now I'm sewing a new bag made of white fabric - I didn't find a suitable black one.

03.04.2007 15:24, Guest

Any color, but not white, with experience you will understand.
green, black - good.

03.04.2007 15:31, Swansson

That's greatsmile.gif Black synthetic mesh with a 1 mm cell. You can really see everything clearly through it. I will test it soon.
By the way, maybe someone is interested: a fishing podsak is used as the basis: telescopic handle, folding hoop, lightweight, costs about $ 4
, but the hoop initially goes 50 cm in diameter, and since I don't go for ornithopters yet, one section is removed from the hoop. The result is a comfortable 36 cm in diameter, and the structure is stronger.

But the hoop is initially 50 cm in diameter

Hmm, and I'm used to the 50-centimeter one. With small Teri somehow feel uncomfortable smile.gif

Now I have a bag of dark green chiffon, I'm happy with it. The fabric, of course, is quite thin and easily torn, but even the most delicate diaries are not damaged in the net. As for the color, it used to be white, but I didn't notice a significant difference in the reaction of insects.

05.04.2007 0:04, okoem

I use black. I don't know about the reaction of insects, but most of the butterflies are clearly visible through the black grid, because many of them have a light color - white, blue, yellow. But dark satires are poorly visible through such a grid.
I buy a grid in a fabric store, it costs about 15-20 hryvnias ($3-4) per meter.
The rim is folding, the manufacture is described on my website. It is done in an hour or two. I make a pen out of plastic from the knee of a fishing rod.
The disadvantage of the factory" fishing " net in my opinion is that in comparison with mine, it turns out to be very heavy, which means you can't swing it quickly and the fishing efficiency will be lower. My net, on the contrary, weighs just over a hundred grams: rim diameter 30 cm, handle length 70 cm, bag length 75 cm.

A light net is also needed, of course, it is easier for them to catch something flying fast. How to use a mowing net, a water net, etc.
But the factory one is more versatile - the handle is folded-0.5 m, you can wave it as much as be healthy. It is not heavy at all for a normally developed person, but I pulled out the handle 1.5 m - you can also remove something from the tree.

05.04.2007 22:02, okoem

Factory "fishing" of course in itself is not so heavy, but after mine, it seems heavy. However, it is a matter of taste and habit. A folding handle is certainly an advantage, but I also have a folding one. Three knees of 35 cm each, I just usually put only two, it turns out 70 cm.
And I catch just butterflies, more often than those that are smaller, many of them fly quickly; as well as micra, and all-all-all lepidoptera that occurs...
In general, for me, my version of the net is now the most convenient.

After all, I will finish this year's nets from a semi-professional tennis racket.
The perfect camping option! But only, of course, at short distances. But the design is heavy-duty and relatively light (light alloy).

A healthy idea! True, the design is not collapsible, but it is... After all, you can use old badminton rackets, they are also a sea on the mezzanine!

06.04.2007 9:13, omar

Badminton rackets are not so strong. And this one can catch, and mow even in the bushes, and mow under water without fear.

And the depth of the bag? 1 Meter? And how to catch hawk moth over a flowerbed like this?

Just the thing smile.gif
2-meter handle and a bag that can be used to cover the calf. It definitely won't fly past smile.gif

Sleight of hand... Not a single hawk moth has left yet. Over krumba - this is still garbage. I took the tail out of the raspberry bushes with him and didn't have a single hole smile.gif.

d-40 cm is enough, and the depth should be such that 2-2.5 times wrapped the hoop.

I think everyone needs exactly as many CM as it is convenient for him!
For example, I'm not a healthy person, but I'm blind...
And I use a Chinese podsak with a diameter of 50 or 55 I don't remember exactly!

10.04.2007 5:18, taler

The fact that the Chinese podsachnik-definitely.Folding and extendable, and most importantly-not expensive. The main thing is that the handle is comfortable(not thick and not thin). The color of the bag,in my opinion, does not matter,in any case, I had bags of different colors, but I will not give special priority to any of them. Now the size of the bag-here as you like.Again, the main thing is that it would be convenient.Personally, I have nets of 30 cm. in diameter, and bags up to 1 meter. On the material, I prefer a small nylon mesh with a cross-section of 0.1*0.1. And by and large, you always need to have several spare bags.So I have a bag of gauze and a large net in my backpack. It's funny, but they had to catch in thorny bushes-when hooked, it does not break, but for pigeons,fatheads-it is useless smile.gif

10.04.2007 20:26, Zhuk

On Sunday in the shopping center. Extreme (which is about m. River station) bought a net. 130r. worth. A couple less of them became, everywhere some triangular.

09.10.2007 12:56, Bafhomet

mol.gif Good people, can you tell an inexperienced person what is the best material to make a net bag from? (Mostly for catching butterflies!)

09.10.2007 15:07, Guest

I have synthetic chiffon. The fabric is thin, almost does not damage butterflies, but you need to use this net carefully: do not cling to bushes, branches, etc.

Dear taler, this link says almost nothing about the material, but only about its color. They say that from a stretch grid of 1X1mm very good bags are obtained, is this so? And then I used gauze before, but after repairing the 12th bagfrown.gif, I started thinking about a more reliable material. confused.gif And here in Sevastopol, you can only dream about special bags from the Czech Republic. smile.gif

09.10.2007 17:18, AntSkr

You can order from Moscow... They say that Entomology Shop No. 1 can send equipment if you agree with them. Recently I saw their Czech bags (300 rubles) .

Their bags are too short, Czech or Russian. Zhuravlev told me that they know about this and that the normal length is only for the hoop diameter of 50 cm.

One of the bags in a critical situation was sewn by my wife from her veilsmile.gif, and from a thin nylon nylon, fine mesh. Look for any thin, soft and durable material. There can be no general recommendations here.

There are no problems with the fabric for a net in the Crimea!
I bought in Simferopol, in a store near the central market. Thin black mesh, very strong, very transparent, very light and very soft-the price (I don't remember) is about 20 hryvnias. It is not afraid of thorns and bushes. During the season of active fishing, I sewed up less than a dozen small holes.
Stretch mesh is also good, but it is much heavier and not as transparent. Which is very noticeable in practice. I've given up on it this season and never regretted it. Its only advantage is that it is slightly stronger.
To find a store in Simferopol, go from the gate of the central market to Sevastopolskaya Street, cross it and go another block. Then turn left and you'll soon see a fabric store.
In Sevastopol, I think it is also there, but I don't know where.
A stretch mesh - it is generally in almost any fabric store is.
