Two of the most frequent "daytime" types (in the Moscow region).
Hemaris tityus Linnaeus, 1758 (pair) and Hyles gallii (=Celerio gallii) Rottemburg, 1775 (male).
Both views from here: M. O. Lyuberetsky district of okr. der. Torbeevo.

They are very thick... tongue.gif

I decided to add photos of two hawk moth to my gallery:
Far Eastern Smerinthus planus Walker, 1856!!!
Mimas tiliae Linnaeus, 1758
M. O. G. Zheleznodorozhny, at night, in the light.

Here-such, here and caught, and maybe the truth of S. planus in the suburbs?

28.09.2009 19:15, DavBaz

Very similar, but I think the presence of planus in the Moscow region is very doubtful...although what just does not happen..

That's it, I'm correcting the post. I myself found this S. ocellata suspicious.

It would be necessary to check it more carefully
though, for me - planus

date of capture???

it is unlikely that this is a migration...the quality of the copy is excellent, and the date of capture speaks for itself..you can only count the beginning of summer...most likely it is a brood..... so my friend last summer from the balcony flew a few brood nymphalids from India.

Caterpillar and pupa of Acherontia atropos. Found near Yevpatoria (Crimea). Almost until pupation, the caterpillar remained green. Pictures of the green caterpillar were taken on October 14, 2008, the next day, October 15, it turned yellow (see the photo of the caterpillar on a white background), crawled and buried for a day.

It is fair to remind the audience about our native callambulix.
The photo has already been taken once, but it will not be superfluous in this collection.

Callambulyx tatarinovi (Bremer & Grey, 1853)
Primorsky Krai, Khasansky district leg. cajarc (many thanks to cajarc for the material!!!)
It lives almost all over China, Korea and Japan, in Mongolia. On the territory of the Russian Federation, it is found in the Amur region and Primorye, as well as in Transbaikalia, where the brown form eversmannii (Eversmann, 1854) flies, a photo of which is available in our topic thanks to P. Gorbunov. Years we have in June-August, the caterpillar on the elm.

Hello, dear forumchane! I have two thematic questions for you.
1) Can anyone provide a complete list of hawk moth species found on the territory of the Russian Federation?
2) This hawk moth with a wing defect was found in the grass near Balakirevo, Vladimir region. Who is it-gallii or euphorbiae, and how exactly do these guys differ? According to the determinants, I understood that the milkweed is lighter and its hind wings have more pink in color. But you can't tell from this specimen what its true color is - it's flown around quite a bit...

There is the truth in the south only, and it is also suitable for the EDR.
