I would like to add here, in my opinion, the most frequent cocoonworm near Moscow:
Euthrix potatoria Linnaeus, 1758
M. O. Balashikha district, Zheleznodorozhny district.

I was flipping through Marikovsky's "In the Deserts of Kazakhstan" today and it seems that I found a photo of one of my caterpillars, which I tried in vain to identify:
It turns out "juzgunovy cocoonworm"
Eriogaster henkei (Staudinger, 1879)
South Kazakhstan, Moyinkum Sands, 40 km north of Suzak village, on May 10, 2010
, a caterpillar was sitting on a dry branch of juzgun. Taken at night with a flash.
picture: DSC_0001_новый_размер.JPG

The second one is similar, from the Aktolagai plateau (which is more than 1000 km to the west), on May 18, 2010. Also clearly Eriogaster. But which one? Juzgun and the sands were nowhere near there. Crawling on the litter, probably hit by a rider. Caragana and spirea grew nearby. Maybe Eriogaster neogena? On the black subdorsal spots, it has tufts of short orange hairs.
According to Anton Skrobotov, this is exactly how Vadim Zolotukhin defined it.

This is the Neogene. And the first caterpillar, as defined by V. Zolotukhin, is also, after all, Neogene...

So be it. Only the caragana was nowhere near there, but the juzgun was plentiful...

Gentlemen, I see a complete mish-mash in the definition of Phyllodesma on this forum. I attach a hint. Pay attention to the saturation of the background (reddish-yellowish) and the presence, shape and degree of severity of the light preexternal (primarginal) band. I understand that there are only 30 species in this genus, but it is necessary and useful to know the European representatives. From Omsk – not ilicifolia, but Japonica. There is an impression that the second species dominates ilicifolia in Siberia.
I would be grateful for accurate data on the distribution of species in Russia

And one more fact. It concerns Dendrolimus pini - Dendrolimus superans. Did you know that pini goes as far as the Sayan Mountains, and superance goes as far as Moscow (Komi, Sverdlovsk, Moscow region)? So be careful about the rapid definition.

Uv. forumchane, tell me how realistic it is to catch Eriogaster lanestris in the Kiev region and adjacent areas. Did anyone catch it? As far as I know, the animal is rare and does not really fly to the light. I would be grateful for any information.

So I would like to know the same thing, only for the Ivanovo region.

So I would like to know the same thing, only for the Ivanovo region.

In Ivanovskaya - stopudovo is. It will fly in a month. On light flies (last year at the dacha at sdi two males collected on DRL-250).

In the Ivanovo region, yessmile.gif, but in Kiev frown.gif. I had an idea-fix-to catch Eriogaster lanestris this spring, now I'm trying to collect information.
While deaf.

Probably, there are all over Ukraine, but to catch or find caterpillars is a great success. Only once did I find masonry, at the end of March, on the border of Zaporozhye and Donetsk regions. In Dnepropetrovsk, there are more than ten points. Here is Her Majesty fortune smile.gif

02.03.2011 20:45, Dantist

By lanestris. Last year, at the end of May, I found a nest with young caterpillars in the Luhansk region. They shed a few times, and then they all bent down. Probably too gentle or demanding.
