It occurs, but not very often. smile.gif Omar, the exclamation mark in my post probably referred more to the picture as such. The view is generally banal. smile.gif

We returned from Ukraine today. Dnipropetrovsk region. Steppes. Plus a fairly solid woodland: pine trees on the sand + deciduous areas. As expected, the main gathering was in the steppe. On May 9 and 10, while it was not hot, several Dorcadion species were actively walking: elegans, holosericeum, equestre and cinerarium. There were quite a lot of kravchiks, but catching these field workers is not a sport. Therefore, we did not take much, concentrating on the males. By the way, I shot the fight of 2 males for a mink. It's a funny sight: just like little deer beetles suffering from an inferiority complexwink.gif. On May 11, the weather warmed sharply. Kravtsy and Dorkashi began to withdraw, but Cicindela soluta (brown and green), Cicindela littoralis nemoralis, Cicindela sahslbergi actively began to come out. Racehorses are real fighters, so we did not stand on ceremony with themsmile.gif, however, catching Cicindela littoralis can only give pleasure to a complete masochist. A clever, cunning beast. Scurrying, alas, in the mudsmile.gif, 2 types of Khlenius were caught in parallel (in traps and by manual collection), any carbidic trifle, 1 type of T-shirt. Plus-all sorts of steppe crunches. The night gathering did not yield anything: it was cool and windy. At the same time, I tried out a new lens for a Canon digital camera.

Beetle, thank you. This is Dorcadion equestre. Alas, the photo is noticeably lost when reduced (from 5 megabytes to 100-something kbwink.gif). It's not the best, it's just different.

I left today for the Dnieper. The weather is still mild. The males of polyxena who had flown out were stiff in the grass and did not want to take off. The first Anthocharis cardamines, Carterocephalus palaemon, and Callophris rubi appeared. In general, we are waiting for heat...

Question for everyone: what are the stable phenological signs of early summer polyxena? The fact is that I haven't even been able to see butterflies for three years, although both carcasone and polixena caterpillars have been found on it for a long time. The pupae don't show up either, do they spread out? smile.gif Last weekend in the Ryazan region (+15, cloudy with clearings), there was still no trace of kirkazon plants, only rare dandelions were blooming... So what to expect, mass flowering (so that there is something to eat for butterflies), sprouting of kirkazon (so that there is something to lay eggs on), a certain air temperature, something else?
It is interesting that in this area (Kasimov district) there are all possible types of Papilionidae in our country. Swallowtail-common in two generations (already seen on weekends); podalirium-rare, but occurs regularly (only seen in spring, not caught); mnemosyne-rare, seen a couple of times; apollo-last year finally found a station with a massive summer of butterflies (before that only rare meetings). But with polyxena, I can't close the question, although the annual finds of caterpillars leave no doubt.

Butterflies in the Ryazan region laid eggs on the sprouting kirkazon, as already mentioned on the same forum (third post).

As promised. So this means: ant-spider-like-Caprians, flew near the bush. If someone can say something (at least the exact belonging to the family..)?
Hoplia - also Caprians, I wrote about these beetles (also maybe someone knows about the species?)
The Bravich tree. It was on this tree that I caught 2 hoplia as in the photo, 4 trivialis (there are 2 left, but each has a foot defect. If you still need it, Nimrod knock. Well, philanthropists with this, which is also waiting for a challenge in the photosmile.gif), about 10 philanthropists, potosia fieberi, 2 metallics, a lot of aurat, 1 cerambix scopoli. Who knows what kind of tree it might be?

I suspect that this is a mountain ash glogovina, or bereka (Sorbus torminalis) - an interesting tree, just in Moldova should occur, although infrequently

feebery was only 1.. Maybe they were still high up, but even my eyes couldn't see that there was a net there.. If you need it, I'll save it for you

in general, how much to postpone philanthropists? black left 2, zaitseva 1.

Thank you, Mr. RippeR. As for the materials on the Hoplia river, everything is absolutely interesting and in any quantities and in any regions.
As for "black" or "dark" instances, it can be anything. It makes no sense to determine them from the photo. Do not mount them on pins at all. I'd rather buy you human dies, which you can then carefully mount on. Because if you send me the material to determine, then in any case I will have to soak it and rewire it.
Sincerely,....

Latest news: The Lozova-Leushany trip
was overcast all day, but this did not prevent you from catching something interesting.
Melitaea trivia and a pair of Cupido minimus were caught at the first point. But this is in a clearing, and when we went into the forest, my partner and I found Morimus funereus (although my specimen is missing half of the first segment of the antennae weep.gif).
Let's move on. In another clearing, I caught about 4 Cyaniris semiargus (about 2 females and 2 males), a lot of argus flew, strange nutcrackers sat, I found an interesting butterfly, like from thinworms, a couple of Everes alcetas.
We crawled to the next place. On one side of the slope, I caught a couple of semiargus, alexis, coenonymphus, Ochlodes sylvanus, Colias hyale, 1 anagliptus, a couple of phytoecia, 1 4-point dead eater. On the other hand, in a clearing in the forest I found about 8 Cerambyx scopoli, my partner took another 1 morimus, I found an interesting mosquito, a couple of interesting nutcrackers, 3 mesozoic curculionoides on a chopped tree, though 1 escaped frown.gif
Then we went to Leushany. There are also a couple of semiarguses, a couple of trivia, 1 celastrina, 1 hefty idas, a couple of argyrognomones. I went to the bushes we were passing. I just felt that there was something there, and really-2 Gnorimus nobilis, male!!! But then I walk along the side of the road, the place doesn't seem to be Dorcadion, but I think it's just a pedestre to take. Imagine my surprise when I find pediatrics, almost at the moment when I think about them. First 1, then another, eventually about 10 (they are already sending greetings to Serge, Bad Dan)

Good day to ALL! Just recently found this forum-I really like it.It's nice that there are a lot of people who catch insects day and night, and even write about it.
As a new person, I will say a few words about myself.I've been working on butterflies for several years now. Both daytime and nighttime (I prefer more nighttime ones). I go to night fishing with a generator, so there are no problems with connecting to the network at all,and the geography of fishing, respectively, is wide.I catch it at night with a quartz lamp.I live in Kharkiv, but I travel all over Ukraine and plan to cover a little bit of Russia this season.
In the 2007 season, I already traveled with my colleagues from 28.04 to 5.05 to the Karadag Nature Reserve (Feodosia district, Crimea), as well as partially in the rest of the Crimea. Some of the most interesting finds are:
- Leptidea duponsheli
-Euchloe ausonia
-Zegris eupheme (photo available)
- Tomares callimachus (photo available)
- Callophrys rubi
-Pseudophilotes bavius(photo available)
- Libythea celtis
-Thryphisa phryne
With night fishing was a flight, because at night it was very cold.
This season I plan a number of interesting expeditions for such unusual views:
- Saturnia pyri
-Hyles nicaea (Southern spurge hawk moth)
- Hemaris croatica
-Marumba quercus
-Daphnis nerii (Oleander hawk moth)
- Sphingonaepiosis gorgoniades(Pygmy hawk moth)
- Parnassius apollo
, etc.
As I travel, I will try to tell you about interesting weather conditions.
You can also share butterflies, photos, and other useful information...
Sincerely, Alexander Dronov, Kharkiv.

Alex Dronov:
Welcome!
The species you caught are good. So if the exchange is interesting wink.gif
My friend caught kayak - 2 pcs. in the Ruzsky district, in my opinion, in the month of July, if I'm not mistaken.

In the Crimea, the year before last, I saw about 6 gorgoniades. It didn't work out to catch them, as they circled near the lamps of eateries and restaurants on the embankment (Gurzuf)
Neriy's friend saw Daphnis about 4-6 years ago, also near Gurzuf, in the Artek camp

If I get to the Crimea, I will contact you, maybe I will make up a company smile.gif

I also need to look for polyxene on the weekend, I didn't see it last weekend.
But 3 days caught in the evening hours from 20 to 21 in pine plantations on the outskirts of the city (Severodonetsk, Ukraine) on flowers (in the flora is not strong, yellow bush flowers, a lot of scattered in open places - clearings, power lines) caught hawk moth. On the first day I caught Hyloicus pinastri, the day before yesterday Proserpinus proserpina, yesterday Hyles euphorbiae. Scoops also fly to these flowers - Autographa gamma, Calophasia lunula, and a sea of fireflies (from Loxostege sticticalis and huebneri, Algedonia terrealis, Evergestis extimalis, Nomophila noctuella and others). On light Hypomeicus roboraria in the entrance flew, yesterday Discstra trifolii. In the deciduous forest Cyclophora annulata, Idaea degeneraria, Epirrhoe (alternata), a couple of species of leafworms in large numbers, before a week ago there were a lot of Xanthorhoe fluctuata, Ligdia adustata, there were Cyclophora punctata. Also this year, and not only I have a lot of Eucharia festiva - it used to be years did not come across, and now 3 ecz. I've already seen it. I also wanted to ask - about a week ago, Hepialus lupulinus flew in huge numbers in the glades of the floodplain forest at dusk - dozens of males, and females are sitting in the grass waiting. Haven't you noticed before, this species is always flying so massively everywhere?

Cool! Can I be more specific about hawk moth fishing on flowers - what do flowers look like, and all that? And then I really want to catch proserpine, and I would like to catch other hawkmoth with pleasure.

I saw Lupulinus only once, this year on the grass, like a female sitting.. Rather, there is a mass brood in your area..

Here are some of my reports:
Yesterday. Caught little. There were: Potosia affinis, 1 Leptura sexguttata, 1 Agapanthia villosoverediscens. Butterflies: 1 Polyommatus thersites, 2 Thersamonolycaena dispar, 1 Issoria lathonia, 1 Ochlodes sylvanus, 1 Pyrgus malvae, 1 Diacrisia sannio, some interesting moth moth, 1 lichen moth, 1 small glass moth, 2 Hypogymna morio

The day before Yesterday, Razens:
I found 1 broken Potosia hungarika, 1 affinis in flight, about 5 fieberi on flowers, 1 Stenurella septempunctata, a lot of mnemosyne flew from butterflies, a lot of hawthorns, few phoebes and zincias, a lot of Euphydrias maturna, enough sappho, icarus, argus and other nonsense flew, a lot of light green moths, quite large, 2 small ones lichens with 4 black dots (eachsmile.gif).
Checked out the barbel traps! This is a great thing!!! In 1 there was only Phymatodes testaceus, a couple of cool large scoops (no recovery option smile.gif).. But in the second!!! Generally 12 Rhagium sycophanta, in my opinion about 7 Ropalopus macropus, 3 and a half Cerambyx scopoli, 3-4 Potosia fieberi. I was happy with the result, although I expected quite different things.. I thought a bunch of small things would arrive-leiopuses, exocentruses, Mesozoics, some leptures and all that. Apparently, it depends on the composition of the slurry. I took all the home-made wine and beer I found, a couple of teaspoons of sugar and about half a teaspoon of salt. Beetles are well preserved, there are no signs of rotting, on the contrary-a pleasant wine and beer smell smile.gifIn General, my advice to everyone is On traps!!!!!!

Well, comrade, you'll have a bottle for the recipe.
And it is better to collect Leiopus, exocentrus, etc. by shaking them off.

Personally, I did this:
1.5 liter bottle. I cut out a window with a shelf in it, attached it to a tree (for the first time I tied it with strong threads, now I tied it with paper tape. But I advise you to make hooks out of wire, attach them to the lid so that it is convenient to remove them from the tree, you can also wrap the rope in the lower part so that it stays stronger on the tree, does not fly off and does not twitch from the wind) I hung it at a height of ~ 1-1.5, but you can also on molbiol (I don't remember where it is).
I propose to make liquid like this-a liter of beer per liter of red wine, + 1 tablespoon of sugar without a slide and a teaspoon of salt.
Do it as soon as possible, so that it all has time to ferment, so that at the time of hanging the soup immediately begins to attract insects..
I hung in 2 places-1 in a forest clearing, near bushes and trees, on an oak tree, where so many barbels and bronzes gathered, as well as 1 bark beetle and staff. I put the other one in the forest, in a fairly spacious place, the light does not get there, I put it near a live tree with a broken branch, where only 1 fimatodes flew. This showed that it is necessary to put in different places, but better on more open ones. In the article on molbiol, it was recommended to put it near single trees. In general, put it wherever you cansmile.gif, you never know where anyone will attract.

Good afternoon (evening) to all.On May 24, I went on a night fishing trip near Kharkiv. The result of fishing is rather weak.At dusk, a pair of proserpines arrived(see photo above), followed by a male(!) cocoonworm M. rubi and hawk moth Dilina tiliae-already quite beaten, then we caught a couple of crested birds, a scoop pronuba and all...
In the past years (2-5 years ago) proserpines flew better. It was possible to catch 5-7pcs in 5-10 minutes. Apparently, the summer didn't go well because of the bad winter...

Hello everybody!
I finally went to see Mnemosyne. And why did I get carried there, as if I hadn't seen them before confused.gifin general 20 km. by bike to the village. Sherbovka, then along the forest paths and for a long time on foot through the thickets, making your way along with the bike . I went out to the cherished glade. Water squelches under my feet. The wildest heat - more than 30, very high humidity. A cloud of mosquitoes, aztsky horseflies and all sorts of biting evil spirits.
Mnemosynes are flying in full swing, all of them already pretty battered, although a week ago they were not at all. Apart from the usual thickheads, I didn't meet anything.
I saw an interesting caterpillar. Can someone tell me what kind of view?

Another night from 2 to 3.06,I mark all the views, because the background images are different for different places.

Kiev region, near Gostomel dachny massif, from the north through 10m forest-pines, birches, point N50°38,104’, E030°15,029’, lamps-30w - bactericidal+ 18w –normal daytime. It got colder , windy, and rained several times. There are still quite a few butterflies, I note individual specimens, if it sits on a growth of 10 or more, then I write a lot. I seized about 20 copies from nature.
