Again, Kiev region, near the village of Bukryn .

From 11 to 12.08, the night is moonless, but not a single cloud.
In the evening, the harvest began on flowers-in the mass of convolvulus (it was possible to catch up to two dozen), although only 2 flew to the light, in addition to porcellus and in the mass of the armigera scoop.

I caught butterflies in the light at the dacha on 11/12 and 16/17 numbers, mostly a scoop. It flies a lot in terms of number, but 3/4 of this is a few very boring banal species (Agrotis exclamationis, Agrotis segetum, Discestra trifolii, Helicovera armigera). From what else happened:
Scoops: Xestia triangulum, Leucania obsoleta, Mythimna albipuncta, Hoplodrina blanda, Autographa gamma, Macdunnoughia confusa, Abrostola triplasia, Acronicta rumicis, Pseudeustrotia candidula, Parastychtis suspecta, Mythimna l-album, Xestia c-nigrum, Lacanobia oleracea, Lacanobia suasa, Mesoligia furuncula, Pyrrhia umbra, Deltote bankiana, Emmelia trabealis, Agrotis bigramma, Noctua orbona, Mythimna pallens, Macrochilo cribrumalis, Tarachidia candefacta, Trichoplusia ni, Euxoa sp., Sideridis rivularis, Drasteria caucasica, Heliothis peltigera (I found the moment when the butterfly came out of the pupa and how its wings grew), Diachrysia stenochrysis, several other species unfamiliar to me, I'll put it on the definition of how to dry up.
Moth: Ascotis selenaria, Tephrina arenacearia, Thetidia smaragdaria, Peribatodes rhomboidaria, Rhodostrophia vibicaria, Xanthorhoe ferrugata, Pelurga comitata
moth: not caught, but seen Agriphila inquinatella, Calamatropha paludella, Galleria melonella, Etiella zinckenella, Catoptria falsella, Oncocera semirubella, Pyrausta aurata, Pyrausta sanguinalis, Hypsopygia costalis. There
were, including Cydia pomonella.
bears - Euplagia quadripunctaria, Phragmatobia fuliginosa.
hawk moth-Hyloicus pinastri, Agrias convolvuli, Laothoe populi.
slugs - Apoda limacodes.
And in the city itself, a lot of Helicovera armigera flies to the entrance, I found one more Mesoligia furuncula and Acronicta megacephala.

I went to spend the night for butterflies (Cherkasy region, village of Chubiivka, near the Onufriiv monastery). Butterflies (macro) were not enough-they began to fly. sylvina, arrived X xanthographa / cohaesa ?, T candefacta, A vestigalis, battered D querna, S marginepunctata, in large numbers A smaragdaria.
I decided to take a dozen beetles (which are larger), I apologize in advance , if they are banal (please indicate that they are no longer displayed), then they are innocently killed, and if something interesting happens, I will save it and give
it back Like it turned out to be 5 types

svm2,
don't you see if the 2nd beetle from above
has how many bristles: 1. at the inner edge of the eyes (or bristle-bearing pores, one or two)
2. on the penultimate part of the labial palps ? Two or 3 or more?
Thank you.

I will try only in the evening, meaning 2 species (3i4 beetle)

At the same time, please see if there are any bristles on the prothorax process, such an elongated visor (not at all or several). Thank you.

20.08.2007 16:41, omar

Boris, I think it's Harpal, not Amara.

20.08.2007 16:54, amara

You're probably right Omar, in that photo I can only see one intraocular bristle.
But I wanted it to be Amara (Percosia) equestris so much that my fantasies just played out.

21.08.2007 8:14, svm2

I will probably disappoint you Amara-there is one set of bristles behind the eye, there are more than 2(3 or 4) on the palps, there are no bristles sticking up on the visor, it ends with a fringe.
There are 2 such beetles, I looked at both of them

This is Harpal. But it is difficult to determine them from the photo, you need a hetotaxy from all sides. Especially Ukrainian ones. And Amara (Percosia) equestris is quite different. smile.gif

21.08.2007 8:41, omar

In the first photo, Agonum, but also up to the species must be determined by turning it from all sides under a microscope.

21.08.2007 8:44, omar

№4 Harpalus ? griseus is similar.

21.08.2007 10:40, Archypus

No. 3 Calatus fuscipes probably

I only met Leghorn during the day, and I didn't fly to the world. But sea buckthorn flew in July. We have a bad summer after a couple of cold days. I am just glad that the number of Helicovera armigera has finally decreased, and then they flew in dozens, only in thousands. Bindweed hawkmoth doesn't get in the way of flying in the cold. Now a lot of Hoplodrina ambigua, Noctua pronuba, orbona, fimbriata, Xestia c-nigrum, xanthographa, Agrotis exclamationis, Triodia sylvina and other garbage are flying. From the interesting for me took Atethmia centrago.

Here is a kind of "report", though not in Russian, but in Ukrainian... The public from Ukraine may find this interesting.

There were 20 traps laid out . Of these, 10 were bombed out . Bottom line-the material provided was caught in 10 traps. Nebrias (except Transylvanica) are collected by hand.

Does anyone see an outbreak of Prodotis stolida right now? We have so many of them in the south of Ukraine now that they are almost everywhere! Previously, this was not the case, but last year there were a lot of Geliothis pletigera and now some fly.

17.09.2007 8:25, svm2

mostly until 23: 00

07.09 near Kiev, Staurophora celsia and Ennomos quercinaria started flying around 2 nights, the first one flies even on cold nights 10-15 per night (but it is still included in the Kr. book of Ukraine).

Report on fishing in wine and beer traps (From different places, Sumarno: about 15 traps.)
Background textures don't count.
Bronzovka copper - weakly goes.
Cetonia aurata - Weak (and you don't need it)
Potosia lugubris-goes
well Cerambyx scopolii-goes well
Aromia moschata-1ex.
Callidium violaceum - 1 specimen
Phymatodes testaceus-several specimens
Xylotrechus rusticus -2 specimens
Plagionotus detritus -2 specimens
Clytus arietis -2 specimens
Xylotrechus antilope - 2 copies.
Rhagium sycophanta-goes well where there is oak.
Rhagium mordax - mediocre.
You can also add some small gold coins to this list. I haven't identified them yet.
Share your catches. Just theoretically, I want to know what else you can count on.

Xylotrechus antilope - often found in your area?

I don't know! wink.gif
That's just the first time and caught this season. I'll post pictures later.
Here I would like to note that the rarity of such species as Rhagium sycophanta and Photosia lugubris both turned out to be very relative. Before this season, I caught them only in a single copy.

Rhagium sycophanta and Photosia lugubris are common but also infrequent species with a very wide range. In the Moscow region, their northern distribution boundary runs.

But Xylotrechus antilope is a rare species...Probably for everyone except KDG wink.gif

rpanin what type of traps do you use? smile.gif what places do you put them in? confused.gif

And although Mr. Ripper has already written about this somewhere on the forum, I repeat myself nevertheless.
A one-and-a-half-liter plastic flask from under water or something else is turned upside down and cut out in the upper part of the ona window 10x10 cm . Then the trap is attached to a tree at a height of 1.5 m and higher if possible.(I tie 0.3-0.4 with a fishing line. I wind it several times around the tree) I try to set a trap on the sunny side.
It is advisable to display it at the edge of the forest or even better in a forest clearing.
Ingredients: Beer, wine (preferably red) 50x50. Plus a tablespoon of salt and the same amount of sugar (I give more of both than a Ripper ,so I don't have the opportunity to check traps often ). Check at least once every 10 days. And then the trap is quickly filled with butterflies mad.gifthat catalyze the rotting process.
It is worth noting that sugar, according to my observations, can be given more .First, it stretches the fermentation process .
Secondly, the alcohol produced during fermentation contributes to better preservation of beetles.
