..I look at the reports of night fishing, and there are fewer and fewer hawks...
Ukrainians, who caught at night?...are there any more hawkmoths, or are they all gone - go ahead and look for caterpillars?

I caught it. There are no hawkmoths. Only a standard set of moths that are found in the Crimea.

My report. Today from 14 to 16 caught in Yevpatoria with a net . I was hoping for a catch of butterflies, which are now a lot. There are really a lot of butterflies: Marigolds, Lemongrass... There was even a Swallowtail! I could not determine what specific species because butterflies fluttered in such a windfall where it is useless to climb with a net. Got hold of only one imago of Asian Locusts. (I keep insects alive, but I also have dried ones.)

Can you be more specific, which of the moths did you manage to spoof?
I'm just going to the Crimea...if there are no imago hawks, then maybe I'll look for their caterpillars...

Milkweed, poplar, lilac, small wine, and Leghorn varieties are currently flying in the Crimea. Pinewood and death's head are marked. From the caterpillars, I was currently assembling gorgon and proserpine. Also, you can probably already search for the southern euphorbia. Oleander caterpillars should also be present now.

I fished in Yevpatoria ... Marigold plants, Lemongrass plants...
Probably Jaundice (Colias)? Where do lemongrass plants come from in Yevpatoria? confused.gif

Macroglossum stellata is now flying in a mass near Yevpatoria. I watched about 30 of them.

I was fishing for Asian Locusts at dusk today. Suddenly I see-one flew. And the wings inside are dark blue!!! Who is it? Maybe it's not Asian? ( I understand, off-topic. But I'm still waiting for an answer.).

Kiev region. On the night of July 9-10, I caught the light at night. The weather was excellent - there was no wind, the air temperature from the beginning to the end of fishing is 22-17 degrees. The sky was cloudless and the moon was sticking out (about 45% open).
It started shining at 22: 00, right after my cat caught a woodcutter-tanner on the fly=)
The sun shone in the garden, where young trees grew-apple trees, apricots, peaches, etc.At the front of the garden there was a pond, on the sides there were neighbor's gardens, and the rear view was blocked by the house. In the arsenal was DRV250 and UF26.
Years was not very...almost all the insects flew up from behind the house (the moon hung on the same side)...butterflies flew up and settled mainly on the trees that grew in the garden. So I had to sit near the canvas and listen to the rustling in the trees, bushes, etc. There were micro butterflies and beetles on the screen...there were many different diptera.Somewhere around 00: 00, the moon went over the horizon and the middle wine hawks began to fly up...there were 6 of them in total. There were also two grass cocoonworms and one yellow ribbon. Also on the canvas were a couple of types of shovels and one golden-yellow bear.

On the 10th in the morning I went to the forest to catch daytime butterflies.I fished in the oak forest, along the forest road and at the edge of the forest. There were puddles on the roads,so I waited for butterflies there)...but especially there was no one to lie in wait for - all the same in the masses of golubyanka, belyanka...I wanted to sing the topolevy bandleader, but alas.Occasionally, willow perelevnitsy (very shabby), admirals, peacock eyes and large forest mother-of-pearl flew.
Galatea, male lemongrass, and various marigolds frolicked on the edges of the trees.

Kiev region, Belotserkovsky district.
On the night of July 14-15, the sun shone in one village;the fishing place was located in a lowland - from the front and rear - mixed and deciduous forests, from the sides - neighboring fruit trees...
The weather was excellent - from the beginning to the end of fishing, the air temperature was 25-19 degrees. There was no wind.It was a full moon, which is bad.
I started the lamps at 21: 30 and turned them off at about 01: 00. From the lamps-DRV250 and UF26.
Guests on light waited a long time...only from 23:00 representatives of various families of lepidoptera began to attack the canvas.3 small winebirds,1 lilac,1 poplar,1 pine hawk moth,a male and female woodworm, many males of the unpaired silkworm,6 species of scoops and 8 species of moth arrived.
In addition to hawk moth, he hoped to catch local cocoonworms...but alas.
By one o'clock in the morning, the mosquitoes were completely angry with me and I, a lightly armed babochkolov, had to retreat to the fortress)...but there I was waiting for an "ambush" - friends, having had a good time, did not close the front door of the house, but they did not forget to turn on the light...and there were mosquitoes all over the house!...then I, armed with a textbook on nature recognition for the 3rd grade, took revenge for my defeat at the canvas and lamps)

Mosquitoes are kick-ass! I wanted to put the cups in the floodplain forest in June, but there were a lot of mosquitoes, no sprays and ointments could save them from them.

No, well, what the fuck? And if you go to the taiga by self-propelled car? Everything is on your own (tent, sleeping bag, bowler hat, etc.). So what? still antimoshkin (var. - antakamarin) on yourself taschit?

What I really meant was that as the number of bites increases, the inhibitor will work "incrementally"...
For a" city " resident, I understand that it will be difficult at first.

Bites are still such things...let them bite themselves there, not snakes)...but when there are so many mosquitoes that they get into your eyes, ears and nostrils, it's too much - they distract you from your work!
Just stand there and wave them off...and then you need to look at the canvas, listen-suddenly something interesting will happen in the grass/leaves)

The target was Scolia, which I came across in early September 2007 and late August 2009 (females) Scolia ?dejeani.

Scolia hirta
Scolia sexmaculata
Colpa quinquecincta (males)
Scolia ?quadripunctata (male)
Scolia sp. (female A - and I think her males)

In the last photo, the variability in males of Scolia sp.

26.07.2011 Kiev region. Kagarlytsky district of the village of Voronivka. We went with Diletant almost spontaneously. Before that, we stopped by Jarik's (also for a catch). We started fishing at 20.30. There was a lot of flying and everything, apparently before the rain. Some insects (such as ground beetles amara sp. or hawk moth (d. porcellus) was obscenely plentiful. We then took them off all night and caught them all over the car smile.gifAt 01.10 a terrible downpour began, which was preceded by enchanting lightning and we had to drag at the pace of a waltz on the asphalt, and as it turned out, for good reason. For in the morning I was not too lazy-I went back along the path - it was blurred in full g.... but! If we'd stayed where we were, we'd have waited for it to dry out. By the way, in the Kharkiv region a couple of weeks ago we got into a similar situation, but it's good that we were on an SUV and left with grief in half. From the catch, bears were noted-Phragmatobia fuliginosa (aberrant), Euplagia quadripunctaria and for some reason Watsonarctia casta, and the freshest. It's not supposed to meet at the end of July. The scoop was pulled a little, but without sensationalism smile.gif

At the beginning of July, we went with Diletant to the Kharkiv province. We were traveling in an adult way, so we visited Kharkiv, Bogodukhiv, Volchansky and Velikoburlutsky districts. And everywhere caught and day and light. True, despite such a rich geography of insects, they did not collect very much, they saw baibaks, but unfortunately they did not manage to photograph shuffle.gifthem. But, nevertheless, a certain amount of them was still collected. In particular, several specimens of Odontaeus armiger were caught in the vicinity of the village of Liptsy. And I've been chasing this bug for a long time. Also of the interesting things caught a little scoop and pigeons. But these still need to be dealt with. There are a lot of podaliris. Although 3-4 years ago I did not meet them in the Kharkiv region at all. In general, we hung out very well, drove a lot of awesome places, rolled about 1500 km, and caught few insects shuffle.gif. But nothing happens. I will try to put up photos of the captured specimens later, because they are still being dealt with.

30.07.2011. We left Trotsenko S. (Damone) on the Warsaw highway for Borodyanka. The main target was-Anarta myrtilli and thickhead-Hesperia comma. In area c .Potashnya - spent about 3 hours searching, and found nothing. At night, we decided to shine a little to the west (40-50 km) - Zhytomyr region, Malinsky district,Lyubovichi village, mixed forest, We shone until 24.00 - then a thunderstorm began and we hurriedly left. From the interesting-Anarta myrtilli-flew to the light-I did not expect it,in the afternoon we went around all the heaths in a place where they definitely found it and nothing. The rest is all I took:
