March 16, 2011, Feodosia, Dvuyakornaya dolina. ... caterpillars of Cryphia raptricula...

Vladimir, I have not seen raptricle-like scoops specifically from Feodosia, but the results of checking the material from Karadag, Foros, and Kazantip indicate that they all belong to Bryophila (Bryoleuca) felina (Eversmann, 1852). Crimea is certainly big, but according to my ideas Bryophila raptricula is absent on the peninsula.

Vladimir, - good transparency and elaboration of details cool.gif! Range of shadows per square meter. Why don't you tighten the aperture by raising the ISO?, or the noise will pop out - they're not there right now.
- Do you use a macro lens?

.. Your daytime butterflies, for example, have already flown out?

I haven't seen it yet. I didn't go out of town during the day
... Without a passable car, of course, there is nothing to do.

It depends on where you go, you can fish well in passable places.

I shoot as best I can. Pentax k100d + Pentax SMC D FA Macro 100mm f/2.8

that they all belong to Bryophila (Bryoleuca) felina (Eversmann, 1852). Crimea is certainly large, but according to my ideas, Bryophila raptricula is absent on the peninsula.
The view in the Crimea is definitely one. The question is whether felina is considered a good view. I'm not sure about that yet.

What are the obstacles to this?

It seems that these are really good views. However, to be sure that the small quantitative difference in genitalia is species-specific, it is good to study the preimaginal stages and / or do a molecular analysis.

Good day! On 12.03.11 and 15.03.11, Z. Polyxena (male and female) was born from the pupa. The caterpillars were collected on 29.05.10 (post # 4943) and pupated in June.

Wow! I also wanted to somehow start a population of polyxenes on the balcony, brought caterpillars, they pupated, and then in the spring the butterflies hatched, also earlier than the natural term, despite the fact that they wintered on the balcony. By the way, an interesting feature was that the pupae were mostly .. on the ceiling smile.gif
But I threw it all away, did not plant the kirkazon, did not tighten the balcony with a net, and all the polyxns scattered.

And in nature, while polyxene is relatively far away, even in the south of Ukraine.
I was scouting today in such an area, like the "forest-steppe", in the ravines there is teren and reed, and on the slopes there are some prickly trees, they also have reddish berries that ripen in autumn, and sometimes they come across suckers smile.gif
Of the blooms so far, only chistyak is rare, goose onions are also rare, reticulated crocuses are already beginning to bloom en masse, gymnosperm is not yet.

One of the pictures shows an interesting "sonyshko-nebushko" - inverted smile.gifRed dots on a black background! While I was looking at it, I found a brown dog tick on my hand, as if a hint from nature - "well, a dog" )))
On the ground in abundance run various spiders and many small chernotelok, which I picked up a whole bunch to run in the terrarium.
Field crickets and tarantulas have already been dug up thoroughly, kravchiki are just beginning to dig up. This is the second time I've noticed a male T-shirt, the T-shirt itself is not shown yet, it's too early for a T-shirt, even for a shirt it's too early in such a cold spring smile.gif
The average temperature of the day was about +10C, there is no wind, it is clear. The next promising day is Thursday, up to +15 in the south of Ukraine, before that it is overcast, cold and possibly snowsmile.gif

Well, a picture of today's moon smile.gif

Good day to all time of day. So the joy of babochkin's "fatherhood" this year has reached me. Vis jumped me for a couple of weeks, although they collected caterpillars in one day, in one place smile.gifI think the fact is that Vis kept the pupae on a cold balcony, and I in the refrigerator. Well, okay, that's not the point, but here's the thing:
The caterpillars were collected on May 29, 2010 in the Obukhov district, Kiev region. Kozin, Recreation center "Mezhdurechye-3" on kirkazon.
They pupated (at me) from June 16 to June 19, 2010 (7 pieces)
That's how it was...

Pupated:

Good evening!Briefly about our trip to Chatyr-Dag.Together with Alexander Shatskov (photopazages), we drove from Simferopol to s early in the morning on March 20.Perevalnoye.The ascent to the lower plateau of Chatyr-Daga was carried out along the Eagle Gorge. The main target was karst craters-the biotope Carabus (Carabus)stscheglowi Mnnh., 1827.Unfortunately, the glasses could not be placed, because the craters are covered with snow.A pair of Carabus(Tomocarabus) bessarabicus bessarabicus Fischer von Waldheim,1823, was caught on a yayl, having come out to bask in the sun.Under the stones, which were turned over quite a few, there was practically nothing.Just a few small ground beetles.Cold nights took their toll.In the Yew Gorge, a fallen beech tree was crushed, the result was not impressive-3 copies.Bolitophagus reticulatus L., 1767 and several large black horsemen.I was pleased with the weather, the salt was scorching, and non-entomological animals in the face of grazing roe deer and soaring eagles. When climbing, there are large glades of snowdrops and primroses, and on the plateau crocuses. We took a picture against the background of wall paintings-copies of covers from music CDs.Satisfied with the aesthetic beauty, we returned to Simferopol and were surprised by the cold weather. In general, we will wait for the heat.

Nature decided to make a joke on April 1? wink.gif

Interestingly, from Thursday of last week until Sunday, our Tmax was OK +20C, while interseno - very weak activity of insects and tarantulas wintering in burrows, kravchiki were very poorly dug out, crickets did not really look out, tarantula burrows are clearly not all open. In general, they felt that it would cover more, and on Sunday it snowed and +3, and in the morning up to-8C frost in the outskirts. It can be seen that they are also watching the SFS in their burrows smile.gif

The other day, a forum member Zheka (from near Odessa) came to us in Melitopol, on student affairs.
By the evening of March 26, it was a little warmer. We quickly organized a fishing trip.
(In general, the departure was planned in advance, but due to the rain and cold, it almost broke down)

In the composite image-Zheka at work and a team of hunters and volunteers in the fog...

Finally, we managed to leave, but not far to the Konchi-Zaspa area. The goal was to catch pomonaria and look for beetles during the day.
We stopped at the edge of a swamp
picture: IMG_3742_1.jpg

The beetles were picked up-several types of nutcrackers, black-bodied beetles, small carabids, granulatus and 3 of these, they say a good beetle-clathratus, the rest for home analysis
IMG_3745_1.jpg

The goal for butterflies also seems to have been achieved -5 pomonarias arrived, the rest is all the usual for this time - three types of orthozyas (kruda in mass), munda, two types of conistras, transversa, two types of agriopis , aescularia, pilosaria and hispidaria that's all.
