Sergey-D, this is a cornflower like Centaurea marschalliana, it has a double flowering - from mid-April to October, as far as I remember.
By the way, I saw quite a lot of fatheads, but I didn't see any pigeons, although in some places they already fly smorya, well, maybe just because the wind was terrible, I couldn't see them.

And today I took a walk through the local steppe expanses, and where I have not yet walked smile.gif
It was very windy, even too much, and the wind was straight from the sea, cold, there were very few insects, and then in the silence itself, and those that took off on the plain were immediately carried away to an unknown distance ))) but I liked the walk!
Polyxenes are already flying with might and main, tettigonias and verrucivoruses have been hatched, the second wave of flowering has completely passed, only in some places rare adonis are still blooming, and the third wave has not yet begun, so the steppe and slopes do not look as colorful as a week ago, caragana, various astragalus and other plants are blooming, but there is no general aspect from herbs, only from blooming trees.
But even though it was windy, but the smell of steppe grasses was such that all the clothes and everything smelled pleasantly of herbs smile.gif
Despite the fact that the temperature was not higher than +25, I was quite thoroughly tanned and even burned, and 1.5 liters of water ran out at the very exit, so that's all, summer has come)))
The path length is approx. 25 km.

Everything is so green! But it hasn't rained for a long time, and there is a danger that everything will dry up soon. Were there any dawns?
Hierophis, how much longer do you think the polyxenes will fly? And then I want to catch them again this year, and tomorrow I'm unlikely to succeed.

As for me, today I was behind the cemetery on our sands, and a little passed through the cottages, among which there are many abandoned ones with flowering trees. Swallowtails, Podaliriyas fly.
Behind the acacia forest belt near the dachas, I also saw a very strange well-just-faded-pale-thistle that didn't want to sit down, so I didn't take a picture.

Wave Storm, as for the rains, I myself think that I won't see something in the future, but I'm already hunting for a thunderstorm, give us a thunderstorm!!! smile.gif

Polyxenes will fly for a sooo long time, I sometimes met the last ones at the end of June, they are quite tenacious, although very gentlesmile.gif
But thistles I sometimes met such that I chased her like crazy, could not understand what kind of butterfly is this, well, just a "new species" with an amazing geometry and color of the wing.. Caught and recognized a burdock, so frayed that it actually had 30% no wing edges, and it flew like a macroglossum!

By the way, about cow cakes, I have already posted this video here, I will post it again, here is such a recycling here smile.gif

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWiK7qpQKhs

But what is interesting is that there is no such thing in the Kherson desert, there is no such pile of small beetles, but there are deep burrows under almost every flat cake, and if you are lucky, you can find a sandcake with long horns, copra, and some other oblong beetle of small size, about 15 mm, they all dig burrows in the sand and drags almost the entire tortilla there, leaving one crust on top. Such are the differences in recycling.

Greetings to all from Moldova, which is gripped by a political crisis!
I realized that unusual beetles should be found in unusual places. There are landings near Chisinau where old silver poplars have been preserved. For some reason, most of them grow in two or even three trunks, and in the place of their connection juice oozes. I have long since stopped checking them for barbels or glitters, I have never found anything, and today I decided to pick at this substance that accumulates in this very perineum. And here - from the heels of Chaetophora spinosa (Rossi, 1794) took, but no longer steel to take. At first I thought some Cercyon from hydrofilids, but I don't want to contact them. But they turned out to be Byrrhidae, and I have only two species from this family for ten years-Byrrhus pilula and Cytilus sericeus. There, in the juice itself, I found some Dorytomus from turmeric and new staphylinches for me. Phytoecia pustulata (Schrank, 1776), Aphodius luridus (Fabricius, 1775) (black and mottled forms) and two or three other small species are also new to this raid. I'm going to Vadul lui Voda tomorrow. There is a cherished stump there, also poplar, in two girths, under the bark in the fall I found there larvae of barbels with a little finger! Maybe they've already pupated. Well, let's look at the flood.

... and in the place of their connection, juice oozes out.

Juice collects a very interesting mixture of a variety of beetles, which you will not see so easily. You can't skip such places. smile.gif

another interesting fauna in the land soaked in this juice, but this is for the fan of "little things" wink.gif

Actually, I noticed this wandering slush on the way back, and I didn't have much time to poke around there. This is the next time. And as for unusual places-somewhere in October last year, also at the foot of very old willows, I noticed such small beaches of gray, finely granular earth. But not the soap. At first I thought-ants throw, but then I still dug. And in this substrate - Pseudoseriscius pruinosus and no ants. I don't know if it's how they chop up the land themselves, or if they settle in such places... And the main thing is that-chernotelka, it is equivalent to two barbels or three leaf beetles.

And in Vadul-lui-Vody, the flood has completely subsided, and some elaphruses, most likely all the same Elaphrus riparius, run along the water's edge of Nebria livida. And the stump was picked out by someone before me, so no maggots. But I brought you something. There is one hopeful weevil there, right now I'll take a look at who this powerful old man is.

Oops, and the weevil is not given. Total ches in the network does not give anything. I've never seen one like it, not even in a photo. 10 mm without pipe (pipe och. short) brown, vague light and dark stripes go from the edges of the nadkr. to the seam and back. But most importantly-two decent sharp pimples on the back slope of the elytra, pulled back, not to the sides. It's just a tropical place. Most similar to the large Liophloeus tessulatus, only feathered. as if trapezoidal, angled to the sides, and the body is more rounded. I crawled on the asphalt under old poplars (!). In general, Vadul-lui-Vody is absolutely a paradise for weevils. Cleones grow up there like nowhere else. Today, I picked up a pigra-18 mm without a pipe, in the very war paint. I don't need it anymore, but I took it anyway, you bastard.

Hurray!!!! HIM! Already going to post "Wanted" on the definition of beetles. I suspected that he was from the Entiminae, and it turned out that way. In general, he tormented me, usually a total check on the network gives results within an hour, and here half a day with lunch breaks, 100 grams and a trip to the store. And to no avail. So thank you so much!

Today we went with a WaveStorm participant to the floodplain forest on the border with Aleshkovsky Sands smile.gif
It is necessary to say that the trip turned out to be troublesome, the transport does not go as we wanted, the traffic policemen also got stuck on the road, the bus was standing for about 25 minutes, then we also stopped because of political debates)))
So we came to the place after 9 o'clock, and then it turned out that it was not just summer, but just waashe heatsmile.gif, I was still afraid of overcast and wind, although there was something to be afraid of, the photo shows that the front lay right along the border with our site, but such a massive barrier as the cold sea and estuary. I couldn't beat him.
So we climbed with absolutely clear skies and a fairly calm wind, while in the north it was definitely up to +30 degrees Celsius, especially over the sand, but in Gilea it was rather stuffy because of the huge humidity...and if there was no wind at all ...
The total length of the walking path was approximately 17 km.

Again, there are very few flowers, the main wave of flowering has not yet begun, orchids are just growing flower stalks ,ferns are preparing to bloom on Ivan Kupala, and in general, many summer plants are still growing leaves and stems.
There weren't too many butterflies either, but there were some!!! Namely, a whole flock of lemongrass!!! Very shabby already, but it is clear that these are not isolated random butterflies, but a decent southern " hot " population.
But in principle, it is not very surprising that they live in that forest, since there are generally a lot of plants and animals - moisture-loving, not loving the heat. And all this is probably due to powerful artesian springs that drive out cold, but absolutely clean water. We didn't get to them, though.

Of the butterflies, several admirals, angleflies, and jaundice were encountered, including what seems to be erate, up to ten lemongrasses, males and females, thick-headed birds, pigeons, and all sorts of nocturnal and mottled butterflies were scared out of the grass.
They also sewed a grass frog alone, alas, it did not survive the delay back, several snails with black legs did not survive it, but the foot-and-mouth disease and lizards are all fine, well, you can't scare these with the heat.. And for arvalis it is necessary to take a cooler bag frown.gif

Also, this trip was to some extent a comparison of Mylnitsakhzerkalka ))
While you need to wait for photos from the DSLR, but I made a conclusion for myself - the soap dish is colic, convenience, and versatility.. But the quality of course behind the DSLR is 100%..
But then the soap box is a soap box, it is made in order to take pictures "in between", when the picture is not something special and super valuable, you go to yourself, saw a butterfly/flower/bird, took out the soap box, took a picture, and put the soap box back, and as if it was not there )))) And the picture will go well, if you do not set a goal to run with it for three days in order to send it to all sorts of magazines ))
And to take a picture with a DSLR is a whole thing, for that your object, for that your object, for that in general, the object is like an airplane, and its size will not allow you to forget that there is a camera in stock smile.gif
Probably under 100kcal per kilometer such a camera eats up an unsightly traction force with the entire set wink.gif

There is no camera, so it turns out to be verbose.
Fountains are now the most fun place for beetles in the city. Yesterday passed the Pushkin Park (renamed Stefan cel Mare Park), the fountain is bustling with life. Caught: a pair (as ordered) Graphoderus cinereus (Linnaeus, 1758), I had a single male from almost school years on a sewing pin, and then the topic was immediately closed; Limnoxenus niger (Gmelin, 1790), a new species for me; and the most pleasant thing is two Helophorus grandis Illiger, 1798. These are just great, happy as a cat. Gray large beetles (for Helophorus), there is something from ancient fossils in them, some kind of tertiary period. Or chalk. In short, contemporaries of dinosaurs So it seems to me. They were sitting on the fountain wall just below the surface of the water.
In addition, there was a random bug floating on the surface of the water, some small cute weevil, but it fell apart in my hands at home when I tried to straighten it. Small ground beetles, - amaranth-like small pterostiches (4 mm), and it seems a couple of species of harpalus. I've put them all off, not before them. Plus two types of staphylins, one of which is Cafius, I'll sit over the entim today, I have kafiuses, about six of them.
Now the time is such that you can just go to the store, and for the evening there will already be something to straighten out. And whatever you find, it's a surprise. You just walk around town like a jerk, staring at your feet. I can't do anything about it.

And here is another "swimmer" like decided-Heterocerus obsoletus. Only it doesn't have a single spot on its elytra. Are they as gray as mice, or is it just not him?

Three days ago, I turned on the DRL125 lamp on the balcony in order to choose the optimal capacitor capacity. Previously, I did not catch on the DRL, I caught on the housekeeper, so, from my impressions-first of all, the DRL shines very brightly, it is inconvenient to do something on the balcony, it blinds my eyes. Secondly, even though the lamp was in the bulb, it is clearly felt that some fraction of a percent of UV passes and stings the eyes. I can imagine what will happen if you look at the broken DRL smile.gif
Thirdly, so many butterflies and other animals flew in that it's just creepy, and this is with the almost full phase of the moon and despite the fact that the lamp burned for about 2.5 hours from 9 pm, clearly more than the housekeeper 38W, but the luminous flux there is about 2000lum, and here 6000.
But on the other hand, almost all the dustpans landed not on the sheet, but everywhere on the entire balcony, many of them, dozens of them, circled around the balcony, full of all sorts of beetles and midges flew, it was impossible to stand.
In general, DRL clearly attracts insects perfectly, but for catching on the balcony - this is a heavy artilery)))

Christ is risen!

Yesterday I visited the lower part of Sh.Balki. A very large number of butterflies flew there! But given the fact that I arrived in the midst of the heat of their summer, it was very difficult not only to photograph, but even to see some of them. However, something still turned out and is presented below in the photos.

The slopes of the lower part of the beam are calcareous. Above them, there are many small gullies that are bustling with life.
Most of the butterflies are hyale/alfacariensis jaundice,

May 1-6 was on Kinburnskaya spit, Mykolaiv region, Ukraine. I took the train to Kherson, where I met with our main company traveling from Kharkiv, headed by the secretary of the Kharkiv Entomological Society Sergey Filatov. Then we took a bus to the village of Heroiskoe where we refueled with water and for 3 days went to the village of Pokrovka on the Black Sea coast. We stayed in its vicinity for a couple of days doing radial walks and on May 6, having reached the village of Pokrovskoye, we crossed by boat to Ochakov, then moved to Nikolaev and took the return trains in the evening. I really liked the Nikolaev Zoo, the oldest in Ukraine and rightfully considered the best in Ukraine.

Good afternoon!
From 6 to 7 May, together with Vis, we will go to the outskirts of Gavronshchyna village, Makarovsky district, Kiev region, which we have long loved. The weather was going to be wonderful, and there was no moon in the sky.
But the problem wasn't the weather at all frown.gif
Of the two places where we catch, we didn't manage to get to one at all (the road was in water and I didn't even dare go there in a jeep, so I wouldn't get stuck at all), and at the entrance to the second place a large,unaffordable birch tree fell (the top of which can be seen in the second photo)frown.gif. where I managed to get to.
They started fishing from 21: 00 at a temperature of plus 18 degrees. We used, as always, the original smile.gifinstallation (combining 125 and 250 DRL on both sides) and the European one with a 26W UV savings lamp for reptiles (Zoo Med ReptiSun 10.0 Compact Fluorescent).
"I was pleased with the " incredible number of mosquitoes and the crowd of melolonta and hipokastani, the latter were twice as large as the usual melolonta.
Very wet ground and almost immediately fallen dew forced us to take shape already at 24: 00.
Of course, we were late for the endromis, but one male still arrivedsmile.gif, the milhauseri were pleased (also one male), and so, not quite complete (maybe a couple of species were missed and the whole micra) list of what we saw and caught:

Furcula furcula (Clerck, 1759);
Furcula bicuspis (Borkhausen, 1790);
Stauropus fagi (Linnaeus, 1758);
Harpyia milhauseri (Fabricius, 1775);
Notodonta dromedarius (Linnaeus, 1767);
Notodonta ziczac (Linnaeus, 1758);
Pheosia gnoma (Fabricius, 1766);
Pheosia tremula (Clerck, 1759);
Ptilodon capucina (Linnaeus, 1758);
Clostera curtula (Linnaeus, 1758);

Endromis versicolora (Linnaeus, 1758);

Phragmatobia fuliginosa (Linnaeus, 1758);

Lycia hirtaria (Clerck, 1759);
Selenia dentaria (Fabricius, 1775);

Subacronicta megacephala (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775);
Actinotia polyodon (Clerck, 1759);
Orthosia gothica (Linnaeus, 1758);
Calophasia lunula (Hufnagel, 1766);
Colocasia coryli (Linnaeus, 1758);
Macdunnoughia confusa (Stephens, 1850);

Drepana falcataria (Linnaeus, 1758);
Tethea or (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775);

Mimas tiliae (Linnaeus, 1758);
Sphinx pinastri (Linnaeus, 1758)

a couple more types of scoops that I've caught but haven't identified yet.

Well, a few photos (sorry for the quality, I forgot the batteries for the flash and had to take pictures with my phone frown.gif
