General report on Pestovo for May, mainly devoted to this weekend, since all other nights were nasty and cold. The May holidays were marked by a single really interesting macro - Orthosia opima. I also confirmed the habitat (discovered by me 4 years ago) of an interesting moth Incurvaria masculella in lipnyak near the Moskva River and caught a banal, but new to me Agonopterix curvipunctosa. Later, a second specimen of Eupithecia pygmaeata was caught (for Pestov). Well, this weekend was the most fruitful. First of all, the male Harpyia milhauseri arrived (however, after lunaris, aprilina and oo, I had no doubt that it would arrive someday, and this find gives me confidence that the alchemist is not far off), as well as the fresh Protoschinia scutosa, which is generally unclear what is left here. And from micra, I was pleased with the new leaf wrappers Ancylis obtusana and Epinotia granitana.

I also set up 20 traps in damp places in the vicinity, hoping for nitens or other interesting ground beetle. What do you think is the optimal "incubation" time before they are tested?

I think that if you go with the generator and shine a light on the oaks in the valley of the Moskva River in the vicinity of Mozzhinka, then more than one will arrive, perhaps even a female))

And I think that this species, like Plumiger, is spreading more and more widely.
Of course, oaks and a warm-up place - there you need to try to collect it.

Not a great account of our adventures with Viktor Gazankhidis (Vigr).
He came to me in the evening of May 28 and we went to shine on Voinova Gora.
They shone a beater on the field and on the oak grove, as a result, 2 males of Harpyia milhauseri, one clean, the other killed, and took the first one.
Today we decided to take a ride in Dorogali, the goal is to find Oxymirus cursor. It is said and done, and so is the report. I must say that we did not find this beetle, but we found many other interesting things. The place is gorgeous (you will need to visit there with a generator).
Let's go by road through the forest, the road is quite tolerable, but if it rains, then you automatically get into the ass from a mess of clay and the second problem is driving with an oncoming car.

This beetle is a hood beetle Bostrichus capucinus (Bostrichidae). It lives in dead hardwood. It's widespread, but it doesn't come across often.
And the place is really gorgeous. Excellent excursion and report, thank you! And Saperda scalaris in the last photo is good.

Greetings To Our Esteemed Colleagues !
On Saturday, May 28, Alexey Makarov and I (Eidalon) decided to repeat our trip to the Batkovskoe swamp in search of female jutta. 2 weeks ago, they were not there yet, and a week ago, colleagues managed to hook 2 pcs. Alexander (STIGMA) was not with us this time and this played a cruel joke on the way back. Because this time we only had a tablet with Google maps, but without trekking.
We started off from the asphalt at 8.20. The route was the same. Along Shusta to the Big Lake. Surprisingly, after the past rains, the trail was dry-almost like 2 weeks ago. The channel (56.766147,38.260120) was crossed over fallen logs without any problems. And then we followed the fishing trail along the shore to the southern point of the lake (56.764211, 38.263572). For subsequent maniacs, I specifically specify that the 90-degree turn of the trail is CLEARLY visible to the south from the lake to the swamp. A sawn log lies directly perpendicular to the shore. After that, the trail can be said to disappear and keeping to the south-south-east very easily and quickly (COMPLETELY DRY) we reach the swamp approximately here (56.762711, 38.265384). The time was approximately around 10 am. You will be greeted by a rare pine forest with flowering rosemary
picture: DSC04380.JPG picture: IMG_3516.JPG
Then all the swamp is at your disposal. We went west. Jutta was everywhere. In sparse woodlands and open areas more. I think during the campaign we saw more than 200 copies for two. Sometimes M. B. can see up to 3 butterflies at a time. One of the males flew around 4 pines in a row from the bottom up and going down to the other in search of a female. Almost all males were killed in the trash (they took single ones). Only 3 females were caught. Two in a sparsely wooded area, one in an open area. For me personally, it was a big sadness. m. b. we saw a dozen more, but on the moss bumps (the leg falls 30-40 cm) and in the heat of +25 you don't really run after them. And as it turned out, females are not much slower than males.

picture: DSC04382.JPG picture: IMG_3519.JPG
picture: DSC04383.JPG
picture: DSC04385.JPG
picture: DSC04386.JPG

The first freshest male Proclossians of Eunomia have already flown out. We saw 10 pieces. We flew in open areas. Apparently, solar heating throughout the day without a shadow gives this effect. I don't think that Eunomia has already flown to Tugolesye or anywhere else in the Moscow region. The shape is closer to the nominate one (light yellow spots on the bottom of the hind wings), which surprised me, because all my females from the Batkovsky swamp of previous years are strictly with silver spots. And 30 km to the east on Pleshcheyevo Lake, eunomia flies only with yellow spots.

We started back at four o'clock. And there is no need to get a tablet and see on the map where we are. We went roughly to the east. When we got the tablet , we were here (56.755109, 38.264922), if not further south. In short, an excellent dry entry point to the swamp was safely passed... As a result, without a compass, we reached the eastern shore of the lake (56.766325,38.268227). 300 meters literally made their way through the rubble and palisade of young aspens. Checkmate stood on the entire forest. One of his boots was drenched. We were running out of water (we took 3 bottles of 1.5 liters each). When the lake appeared between the trees, I was immediately released-thank God we won't get lost. Then another 350-400 meters of the same windbreak along the southern shore to the fishing trail from which we turned in the morning to the swamp. The mat was even bigger. In the end, they got out to the car by 18 pm.

If eunomia flies out before all other mother-of-pearl, especially euphrosyne, then it was she who was in Tugolesye on May 24 (and always with yellow spots, which would help to confuse her with aquilonaris) and I stupidly let her go.

Gennadichu: rummaged in this place (you need to look at Wikimapii)? If not, be sure to go, the description and the only photo are intriguing! According to the photo, there is something like a Ufo, but with a higher bonus - perhaps to such an extent that during the day you can try to look for tragosoma (in July it will fly). And I couldn't even imagine that postglacial hills could remain in the flat-preplated Meshchera:

Tugolesye May 24 = only efrosina is possible.
I write based on my experience of studying the timing of departure of eunomia over the past 5 years to Moscow time. and Yar. regions at different points.

I know from the KKMO website, and I assume where exactly its "reservoir" may be, since it prefers old-growth forests.

Yesterday I used one of the last opportunities this year to go to the Batkovskoe swamp beyond Jutta. Given the reports of some difficulties on the way through the lake. I decided to check my assumption about the possibility of getting to the station by a different route, as well as the heavy rains that had occurred in previous reports. I was walking past oz. Maloe along the clearing that separates the Moscow and Yaroslavl regions. Almost immediately after its 90-degree turn, I turned onto a narrow and inconspicuous clearing that runs through a pine forest with wild rosemary to the south deep into the swamp:
picture: 1.JPG
picture: 2.JPG
The first jutta met on this clearing at a point lying at the same latitude as the southern shore of Lake Baikal. Big:
picture: 3.JPG
picture: 4.JPG
picture: 5.JPG
The entire journey from the highway to the three-kilometer Jutta station took one hour, which confirms the absence of any serious obstacles on the way.

The osprey and its nest:
picture: 6.jpg
picture: 7.JPG
In addition to Oeneis jutta, I would like to mention for the first time the moth Jodis putata collected by me, which flies in countless numbers in the pine forest with rosemary. The freshest males of Boloria eunomia have been recorded in the swamp. The remaining species are quite common: Carterocephalus palaemon, Carterocephalus silvicola,Pyrgus malvae, Callophrys rubi, Vanessa cardui, Polygonia c-album, Anthocharis cardamines, Gonepteryx rhamni, Pieris napi, Spilosoma lubricipeda, Ematurga atomaria, Chiasmia clathrata, Cepphis advenaria, Autographa gamma.

22/05 also went to the Batkovskoe swamp on the way from the dacha. Beyond Jutta. Since he was wearing sneakers, he didn't want to go too deep into the swamp. As a result, about 300 meters from the road (see map), I found a convenient clearing where Jutta flew quite actively and in 30 minutes I caught several specimens (all were males) and was like this.

Yes, the main thing is to recover... By the way, 10 years ago in this place by the road it was not-specifically looking for; perhaps locally spreading through the swamp massif.

Fluff grows almost all over the territory of the Batkovsky swamp.

So what, fluff grows all over the Moscow region, but you can't see Jutta)) still a very local butterfly, even within a suitable habitat.
What kind of nest do you have in mind? According to my observations, it is most common in the pine krivolesye to the south of the lake, just where everyone is catching this year.

The nest is located behind the forest of the "Dead Entomologist", and no one has reached there this year for the coma of two oddities. See POST 4083

And please tell someone where there are interesting places in the vicinity of Chernaya Square in the Ryazan direction, if of course they were not burned there in recent years.

And in order not to off-flood: today the second milgauseri came to Pestovo, and yesterday afternoon I saw a lot of new for me (but one of the most banal in the family) moth Glyphipterix forsterella.

And from above it looks like eunomia eunomia...
We were with Gennady this Saturday on the Batkov swamp again. But the eunomia there are very dark on top.
Females of eunomia and B. euphrosyne also flew.
Jutta is already flying, and I thought there were more females than males.
Coranarta cordigera - isolated.
The most widespread species is Jodis putata. Mostly females fly in the sun, and males fly in the rain.

Interesting. It seemed to me that in Tugolesye they are the same as in Batkovsky. I have just a series of these two places, it will be necessary to compare.

06.06.2016 17:33, insectamo

Something strange about B. eunomia in the Batkov swamp.
According to sergeySVK, on May 28, eunomia flew with yellow spots on the bottom.
Fyodor's day is May 29, with silver spots on the bottom and a light top, if I understand correctly.
I have 04 June with silver spots on the bottom and dark top.

06.06.2016 18:45, sergeySVK

I come to some conclusions that the eunomia flying in the swamps in our belt has an intermediate form. In the swamp, the caterpillars probably eat cranberries, and definitely not highlanders.
On Pleshcheyevo Lake, the caterpillars feed on mountaineer. All males and females are very light on top, and the spots on the bottom are always yellow-a typical nominative.

Well, finally just got to the computer.
4.06.2016 again got caught on the Batkovskoe swamp (sadomasochists).
This time we went along the paths of Fedor and I must say that it is much easier than the first time, although we went much further.

...
The shape is closer to the nominate one (light yellow spots on the bottom of the hind wings), which surprised me, because all my females from the Batkovsky swamp of previous years are strictly with silver spots. ..

And those specimens from the Batkovsky swamp from previous years with silver spots were found in the same place as this year with yellow ones? (as far as I understand, not far from the lake. Big one in that beautiful pine forest with wild rosemary)
