This is not all smile.gifof us (mikee, sdi, serlego + Sasha Kiryanov) just returned. But in Dzungaria they met a group of K's.Vodianova Street... Only, here, the weather in Kazakhstan this year is more like the middle zone of Russia, and not Central Asia: intermittent heavy rains in the mountains at temperatures of +10 and +40 in the shade in the dunes on Ili... On the rivers - high water and mudslides. The reports will be released later, but they were caught quite well and interesting.

We took them to you, all the ones that flew in. In addition to the usual winula, we have limited them. The Rzhevalskys were there, too. All this is at Legotin's.

In the Caucasus, summer is also very rainy this year. Kazakhstan is across the Caspian from us, so it's not surprising.

Well, it depends on where and where to measure. On average, 1.5. And so... previously, the Ministry of Water Supply worked a lot in Aktau (former Shevchenko). So there's a straight line 640 away from us. The planes flew for 45 minutes (and then more time for takeoff and landing). And many who had higher positions and salaries went home almost every weekend. That's it. But this is a completely different story about the big and friendly USSR...

Instead of the promised report - a small teaser wink.gifMay my partners forgive me, but they do not write themselves... We all had different interests and appetites, so did the differences in numbers and species diversity... Of course, this is not all. But who said that Colias goffi is a huge and extremely rare jaundice? We caught 20 pieces, choosing fresher ones, and our myrmidons are also larger, and they fly bettersmile.gif, and we haven't met so many artichoke-leaved hawks yet, and the photo is not a complete set...
But, unlike last year, there were practically no H. kindermani and L. populi, waves of life, however...

Every year I go further and further away from the Southern Urals in search of new finds. In the 17th year, it came to Kazakhstan. There were 2 goals:
1) find Zegris and Hypermnestra helios in the desert areas
2) drive to Syrdarya Karatau and try your luck with Apollonius and Aleksanor. Judging by the forum posts and data from the latest book on Kazakhstan from the Chikolovets series, the chances are quite good.
On April 30, at 7-30 am, we will move out of Chelyabinsk and cross the border beyond Orsk in 8 hours. We cross very quickly, less than an hour. Then the plan was to go to Aktobe, but since everything on the border passed quickly, it was decided to reach Aralsk on the first day. It turned out to be a difficult task, in the first 3 hours we drove 100 km across Kazakhstan, although we drove-this is an understatement, rather jumped-the roads are terrible. But in the end, we went to the Samara-Shymkent highway – this is just a fairy tale. In Aralsk, as a result, we were at 2 am, somehow found a hotel. In the morning, we immediately left and on the way began to explore the associated sands. The picture is very sad-swallowtails, Alexis pigeons and rare ausonia (or, as some believe, Euchloe daphalis). But there are plenty of camels, turtles and scarabs. We decided to drive south to Syr Darya and found a place near the highway. We drove in and climbed over the railway. Closer to the river, the bush in the desert became higher, which set up a positive mood. And not for nothing, almost immediately the first Hypermnestra burst out from under my feet! Fresh female. Then it's more interesting. There were a few whiteflies near the shore, mostly Microzegris pyrothoe, there were ausonias, Colias erate, and even Zegris eupheme. In the end, only one Hypermnestra was found, but for starters, and this made me happy, part of the desert mission was completed.

In the evening we were in Kyzylorda-a wonderful beautiful city, which left a very positive impression. In the morning we move to the mountains. On the way to Turkestan, we stopped to fish near a small river. Everything is green around, lots of flowers, poppy fields. And not a single butterfly. Kapets, not a single one. Already at the end, 1 some exotic Plebejus flew out-I took it.

At 15: 00 we enter the mountains from the south, a good asphalt road from Turkestan goes to the southeast and crosses the mountains. We stopped in 2 places for exploration, one meadow, the other stony dry. It's still empty, but it's late afternoon. We rush into the desert behind the village of Suzak. We decided to spend the night here. Catching in the light does not bring much success, only milkweed hawkmoth ((. In the morning we start loitering in the desert. There are very few butterflies, such as ausonia, alexis and swallowtail. Moving from place to place. Closer to noon, we stopped not far from the roadside, attracted by a small, nimble white squirrel, with the appearance of Zegris. That's right-it's Fausty. Wandered around-fly! All desert targets are now closed.

You can go to the mountains. We drive along the mountain path from the village of Kozmoldak. The places are beautiful, tulips are blooming and there is a sea of all sorts of flowers, everything is green. There are no butterflies! We stop at an altitude of 800 m. Fishing in the world is extremely poor, from large flew only one harpy. Early in the morning I start walking around the slopes. Forage plants of Apollonius and alexanor are plentiful, biotopes are just right. But there are no butterflies. Fly swallowtails, fresh Liela Myops, the same Ausonia and fausti. On one of the many slopes, I found a small population of Tomares callimachus and Tomares fedtschenkoi – at least some joy. As a result, I went through all sorts of biotopes – neither apollonius nor Alexanor – early, too early, ferula is dark, but almost everywhere has not yet begun to bloom.

The next day we stopped in the desert near Kyzylorda, there were Hypermnestra, tried to go to the mountains from the north – the same picture, fresh Liels of myops and no parnassus. So we went home. We took a short road back from Kyzylorda to Kustanai via Zhezgazgan – it's a complete mess, in two places the bridges were destroyed, the road was killed, there are no gas stations for 500 km, but we broke through, although not without incident. The border at Kostanay was also passed quickly and without any problems. As a result, I found what I wanted in the deserts, and the mountains left an exceptionally pleasant impression of the beauty of the local nature, I liked to wander through them, Tomares for memory! Apollonius and Alexanor are undoubtedly there, but alas, it turned out to be a little early, maybe a couple of days were not enough literally, but it does not matter - there will be a reason to return. This is the first Kazakhstan for me. And in the desert, a tick bit teapot.gif redface.gif, they write they carry a fever there rolleyes.gif frown.gif, but it seems that they are still alive and well jump.gif)))

Every year I go further and further away from the Southern Urals in search of new finds. In 17 goals, it came to Kazakhstan.

Wow! we went almost on the same route! Only from the 30th to the 2nd we were in the southern Urals. and then through Orsk to Aktyubinsk we rode along these bumps)) then also to Kyzylorda, from there to Zhezkazgan - an enchanting route!!! and from there, go further north by a "short cut" to Petropavlovsk. Also wade past the destroyed bridges))) adventures are endless. Only then we did not go to Kostanay, but to Petropavlovsk, and then to Omsk. I don't know about the route to Kostanay (by the way, it's interesting to know its condition), but the road to Petropavlovsk turned out to be completely unfinished, that is, there is simply no section of 30 kilometers. although everything is fine on maps and in yandex. Navigator! I had to make my way through the fields somehow... and where the construction was completed - 120 kilometers of destroyed Soviet asphalt with a width of one lane. in short, we drove half a day to this site)))

Oh, yes!!! Now I will have a photo of this road as a keepsake. And then somehow on the spot the nerves were not enough to take a picture)) Apparently you were the only car that we met for these damn 500 km))) Very familiar road descriptions) We had the most trouble for 80 km to the village of Arkalyk, at first the destroyed bridge was bypassed by a country washed-out road through reeds with a proud fresh sign DETOUR!, and after 20 km there was a river 10 meters wide with a semi-sandy bottom. In Arkalyk, we refueled and then the road was nothing in some places, in some places the same broken Soviet asphalt. And only after Derzhavinsk went a good road, then everything was OK. In fact, I was also killed by the Navitel navigator, who insisted that we were driving on a gorgeous highway, while we were making our way along a field track. It is better to pre-study the condition of roads based on reviews, Yandex. Navigator in Kazakhstan is not an assistant! What good things did you find?

So you are lucky that after Derzhavinsk there was a good track! on Petropavlovsk, this broken narrow-gauge railway continued for about 120-150 km, where the speed of movement is 20-45 km/h. I photographed, as you know, not the most killed section of the highway. there was also no time for photos. And it's dangerous to trust navigators. especially in Kazakhstan. already checked repeatedly. Once navitel took us right in the city of Taldykorgan into some kind of appendix with a primer near a reservoir, while assuring us that we were driving along the highway. Then, despite his assurances, I had to go to the center on my own and just follow the signs. and here there were no options at all. Of course, I was most pleased with the same sandy ford across the Terisakkan River, which is located on the approaches to Arkalyk. By the way, Falkovich conducted research in those parts in the 50s of the last century. I found butterflies with labels from the Terisakkan River in Zina.

From interesting things, we managed to collect various different sawyers. I have already caught and photographed all the bull-moustaches listed by you in previous years, so they were not our main objects, although they were found at points. In the Southern Urals, I was lucky enough to collect Lycia zonaria, which I have not caught myself until now. In Kazakhstan, the cocoonworms Chilena sordida, Phyllodesma alice, hawk moth P. proserpina, Hyles centralasiae and zygophylli were pleased (by the way, the hawk moth in your photo looks more like centralasiae from this angle. although there were also quite a few common euphorbiae). various interesting scoops and moths, micro. In the desert beyond Kyzylorda, we were hit by a squally wind and a dust storm at the very beginning of the night, so we had to quickly roll up and tie our tents to the car so that the arcs wouldn't break. but after an hour, everything settled down and it was possible to catch again. I liked the places near Zhezkazgan. A series of interosseous cossids from the genus Dyspessa was collected there. I haven't determined it yet. In general, we were satisfied with the trip, despite the terrible roads)))
in the photo, the female Chilena sordida, perfectly merging with the sandy desert in which this species lives.

Who knows, when the first one arrived, I was sure it was a local animal of some kind. But after the fifth, I decided that it was such a crushed malochayny. In a couple of weeks, I'll sort it out, straighten it out, and unsubscribe.

Looking for fellow travelers on an expedition to Kyrgyzstan (Northern and Inner Tien Shan) in late June-July. The main goal is daytime butterflies. The route is scheduled, there are a couple of places in the car. Learn more at karat_1986@mail.ru. I don't answer here.

I returned from a week-long trip to Western Kazakhstan.

On the first day, we reached the border near Kotyaevo and crossed it without any problems. We were very tired and decided to spend the night in the first convenient place for parking. It was probably the warmest night of all. In the morning, on a completely broken road, we somehow reached Atyrau, and then along an absolutely gorgeous highway to Kulsary. That's our goal - the Akkergeshin chalk plateau. Cool place! But we don't really have time to fish. A terrible wind has risen, the tents are doubled up, it's not really possible to cook food, and even more so to fish. After spending the night, we decide to move on in the morning ...

From Akkergeshin, head to the rocky plateau east of Beineu. Still a strong wind blows and does not allow you to do anything properly. All that remains is to walk on the rocks and take pictures. By the evening, the wind suddenly subsides, and in the morning it stops completely. After standing on Beineu for 2 days, we are moving back. We decide to stop by Emba. The water in Emba is icy cold!!! Here they caught the DRL in Tugai for light, but the night was cold and it flew badly. The next day we start from Emba towards the border and decide to stop in Peski in the vicinity of Isatai station. Of course, we didn't get to the dunes themselves, but we did some good fishing here. This is the last point.

In general, as for a reconnaissance trip, we went well. If it weren't for the absolutely disgusting wind and cold nights, it would be absolutely super.

Very briefly about the trip to the Almaty region of Kazakhstan. There were five of us, me, Mikhail, Pavel Morozov, Grisha Grigoriev and Sergey. Some of the goals were duplicated, Misha and Grisha and I wanted catocals, which were very few this year, we caught 120 pieces for three of them, most of them were broken, and there were very few species (kuznetsovi, desiderate, deduct, pudik, remiss, neonymph, nupta, repudiate). There were also almost no bears, a few chelis and only one carcinofiga. But there were a lot of hawkmoths and cuckoos, which Sergey killed with special cynicism. The photo shows a container with a catch taken in the middle of the night. Pavel caught a very rare crested duck, which was not caught for more than a hundred years, I think he will write more about it himself. The weather was not very good, it rained in the mountains, it was hot in the desert, plus the valley below Kapchagai was clearly treated with insecticides, mosquitoes disappeared, there were almost no midges and butterflies. It feels like summer this year is very late there, on June 28, the proserpine hawk moth arrived! The station of yershofi found last year was almost destroyed - part of it was dug under the field, the rest was eaten by cattle. On beetles-standard, from the new, surprised brown clete, who came in the afternoon to bait for catocals and a large forest ground beetle! I was also pleased with the golden cauldron and a huge forest ground beetle. Narrow-fingered crayfish on Or above Kapchagai are especially delicious!

Poor hawk moth... there seem to be 2 types of everything-livornica and gallii or something else?

What about two? in addition to these, porcelluses are also some of the euphorbiae group, maybe Svetlana or something like that.

There are few species in the photo, but 14 species of hawk moth were caught smile.gifIn the mass of zygophiles, sea buckthorn and kindermani. Single proserpine and cujiensis.

On beetles-standard, from the new, surprised brown clete, who came in the afternoon to bait for catocals! I was also pleased with the golden cauldron and a huge forest ground beetle. Narrow-fingered crayfish on Or above Kapchagai are especially delicious!

Well, it wasn't all that bad:
- yershoffi station is alive, and the new one has been noticed;
- Pasha caught his coveted klosteru;
- P. proserpina unprecedented in those parts, and even in early July;
- C. proserpina was confirmed in the most idiotic place;
- points with live catocals were found, however;
- cuckoos and hawkmoth flew at Legotin;
- the beetles were beautiful, I don't judge the rarity;
- night crayfish fishing with a bunch of PhDs is something!
- and anyway, it was fun tongue.gif

And from the bad:
- weather in the mountains: due to low cloud cover and rain, those who want to catch daytime shnyaga were left with nothing;
- killed valley Or higher Kapshagaya. There, even from thousands of geckos, there were only a few weep.gifof the abundance of katokalas and hawks left only last year's memories...
- a wild number of ticks in the same place;
- for the first time ran into the protection of the nat.the park, moreover, in the buffer zone. It didn't cost, but it is necessary to keep in mind for the future.

PS. Crayfish were caught BELOW the Kapshagai dam, where the water is clear. The degree of entomofauna suppression is maximal at or above Kapshagai and decreases towards the foothills and beyond the surrounding ridges. According to our assumptions, the Chinese, who are building their new Silk Road, did something along the route...

I will add a photo essay to the report of my Dear Colleagues.
Upon arrival, Alma Ata was met with rain, but by the evening, and by the evening we were on Ili, the weather was very good. With the weather, I was lucky, I will say, so, the middle to the half - in the highlands, rainy weather did not interfere with the abundant summer of cucullias, but excluded the possibility of full-fledged day excursions. Moreover, the place was found in excellent condition with flowering herbs. Sheep, cows, and horses are grazed almost everywhere, and they eat everything well. It was interesting to see, for example, how a flock of sheep nibbles milkweed on the move.
Many different landscapes, each of which is unique and beautiful, even saw a pair of cranes-krasavok in one of the mountain valleys. There's also a black spider that needs to be identified ))
I won't write about the abundance of mites on Or in detail, but I'll show you a photo instead.
The main success I consider Clostera obscurior, which could rightfully be attributed to the section "cryptoentomology". It was quite unexpected. But about it - a little later in the corresponding section.
