How is it, Stas, that they don't shoot?

For the holidays, I broke out to the desert regions of Kazakhstan,
the first point was the Kapchagai hydroelectric power station, the apollonius habitat area
,there were a lot of males, I caught only two females.
Under the stones I found 7 pupae of the same species, waiting for the departure of the imago.
Proterebia afra and liela myops were flying away in their last days...
there was no beetle, after picking through a hundred stones, I didn't even find ground beetles.
P.apollonius_afroditae.JPG
P.apollonius_pupa.JPG
The next day I moved to the vicinity of Bakanas,
the weather was excellent, I was pleased with the large number of Helios Hypermnestra.
Ragged Zegrys fausty, Glaucopsychia latifica, Cupido prosecusa flew...
Microzegrises by my arrival completely flew off:((
two nights pofaril in the floodplain Or, flew poorly, especially pleased with the hawk moth
Kindermann and artichoke, flew pentodons, ceratophysis.
Caught it at dusk (Cheoniasis?) plates with a whitish coating
Flew scoops, a few moths, micras, I'm not strong in them, alas.

In the south, the weather also cooled down,
and after returning from expeditions, there was time
to report on the places covered:

caterpillars of xanthomelas, swallowtail, apollo were collected from different points,
and now I am waiting for imago.

On the 31st, I was near Almaty, in the Big Almaty Gorge,
clouds gathered for lunch, that's what I managed to note:

P. apollo (caterpillar in the photo)
P. tienshanicus
P. mnemosyne

P. napi
A. cardamines
G. rhamni
C. erate

C. sunbecca

C. rubi
C. titanus
S. orion (pictured)
E. eumedon
T. splendens

M. minerva (pictured)

the caterpillar in the photo could not be identified,
and the honeysuckle (in my opinion) is not near the house,
I had to let go

Yesterday, our organized group of individuals (swerig, rhopalocera.com, Alexey Tsylin, babochkalov and my wife and I) on the second attempt (the first plane did not take off) arrived in Almaty. While we were still dealing with registration issues, we managed to do something in the garden of Pyotr Yegorov's house (many thanks to him for his hospitality). Although registration has not yet been received, we are optimistic about the future smile.gif

Due to a sudden disaster that befell me (about which later), I had the opportunity to make a preliminary report on our joint (participants, as I already wrote выше:rhopalocera.com, swerig, babochkalov, Alexey Tsylin, P. Egorov and my wife and I) on a trip to Kazakhstan. I think my colleagues will add more information about their groups later.
So, on June 30, we moved in the direction of the Dzungarian Alatau. The road on which they planned to go at first was washed out by mudflow that passed about 3 days ago, and they had to look for detours. As a result, we stopped about 40 km away. south of Zharkent (at an altitude of about 1800 m-lower than expected). The point was well-trodden and pitted by many sheep, cows, and horses. Apparently, this explained the rather poor composition of the fauna. "Butterfly people" tried to find something worthwhile at high altitudes, but as I understood, nothing worthwhile came across. Now, as they say, a few slides smile.gif

Five points.
One of the photos reminded me of an old tourist joke: a visitor asks a local, looking at the monument, why your famous military leader is in such a strange pose. The local replies that at first, you see, they were supposed to portray the general as a horseman, but at the last moment the municipality did not have money for a horse...

On July 3, they moved to the Ili River in the area of the bridge along the Zharkent road. In terms of the number of beetles caught, this was the richest point. Did the placed glasses contain Carabus granulatus and Broscus ?semistriatus, a huge number were caught in the light. What struck me was the extraordinary ferocious mosquitoes that flew even in the daytime, in the heat of the day and attacked, despite the copiously used reppelent! As a result, during the day we almost did not catch, hiding in tents.

On July 4, we returned to Almaty, and the next day P. Egorov, babochkalov, Alexey and I made a small one-day tour of the Big Almaty Gorge. We went up to an altitude of 1,900 m. P. apollo transiliensis flew in large numbers, while P. tianshanicus and P. mnemosine flew in much smaller numbers. Of the beetles, Agapanthia barbels were found in large numbers (according to estimates - 3-4 species). At the very beginning of the tour, I had a problem-when crossing the river B. Almatinka, I jumped over one of the branches (the water is cold, my legs are cramped, I really didn't want to climb there), landed unsuccessfully on all fours and injured my right arm. Despite the fact that the pain was almost not felt, I could not swing the net with this hand (which greatly upset me). Today, after taking an X-ray, I was surprised to learn that 3 metacarpal bones are slightly broken, although I hoped to get off with a sprain.

While part of our group (Alexey, Dmitry, Stas and Andrey) was in the upper reaches of the Almaty River, we made a surprise trip to the Chemolgan Gorge. Ground beetles and 6-8 species of Onthophagus were lucky.

Belated report on an extremely unsuccessful trip to V. Kazakhstan in May of the ninth year. The terrible spring did not allow us to properly clean up. I threw out a thousand euros (I took 5 people), but we caught something a little and this is already not bad. Well, we got some air.
