This is a male bindweed hawk moth (Agrius convolvuli). Right now they have a massive second-generation fleet. The female has a blurry wing pattern. Oh, and how well they fly!

ultima / micacea-it is difficult to say from that photo, but straightened butterflies can still be distinguished along the external medial line
