Please tell me, it is, despite the visible differences, really both lions Oplodontha viridula, as it is shown on http://macroid.ru/showgallery.php?cat=42930&mode=box
1-length 9 mm, 2-length 11 mm Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod region.
2nd most likely Oplodontha viridula

2nd most likely Oplodontha viridula

Why 2nd? I was sure it was the other way around. Online images of Oplodontha viridula are much more often exactly the same as in the 1st photo: with specks on the eyes and without the green segment on the back. Less often - as on the 2nd. No transition forms. Where to read it.

This is a female babbler from the genus Helophilus (tribe Eristalini). I have a little doubt about the species, but I have H. hybridus in all parameters (color of the abdomen, hind thighs and shins).
Taken in Karelia (see the caption at the bottom of each post)?

Please excuse me, this is still probably H. affinis.

Is it possible to identify a conopid prior to a species?(shot in Karelia) Similar to Vierstreifige Dickkopffliege.

Guys and maybe it's Gonia Picea.

Imho it is, especially if it is shot on a gray willow (Salix cinerea).

April 29, probably?
This is the genus Sylvicola (Anisopodidae), I would be careful about the species, although it seems that only S. is found in our region. fenestralis.

Hello, colleagues. Walking with my son along a stream and looking for fossils in the south of the Moscow region last Sunday, we found such an animal on the underside of the stone, which was lower in the water - that is, this animal was under water. It is suspected that this is the larva of a babbler. Please tell me, is this true or not? confused.gif

It looks like Syrphus ribesii, but it may well be a different species, so it is better to use Syrphus sp.

Perhaps Syrphus, or a similar genus, but the presence of water is a little confusing-species with similar larvae are still land at all stages.

But this is just the adult (female) Syrphus, but there are several fairly common species. The most common are ribesii and vitripennis.

I apologize if the second time I put Eristalis tenax, but I was confused by the lack of pubescence on the chest and a slightly different color, or it's just such variability.

This is not Eristalis, but a species from the relatively close genus Parhelophilus. I can't see it from the photo.

This is a female babbler Temnostoma vespiforme, quite common in the forest zone.

But in the Steppe Temnostoma vespiforme is not found at all. But if you catch Temnostoma vespiforme for a long, long, long time, you can run into its double-the magic Temnostoma meridionale. This is a rare, rare species. A little bit about it is in the new "Red Book of Ukraine".
