A larva was found under a log in Krynica in August.
Posuti looks like a large maggot, smooth and without legs. The size of the centimeter is 4.
Who is this maggot?

Great. This is a very interesting find. The photo shows the caterpillars of a marching silkworm. In fact, their column, crawling in search of food to the forage plant. There are 2 interesting points. Firstly, I do not know about the presence of this family on the territory of Georgia; secondly, the photo does not show the same species (processionea)-that on oaks, which could be expected there, because it is known throughout Turkey. These caterpillars are from the pine gnawers, namely pytiocampa, whose range, as it was believed, lies much to the west, almost in European Turkey and to the south, in Syria. Congratulations to your colleague with a great photo by luck.
By the way, a related question. Does anyone have up-to-date information about the presence of this family in Ukraine??? There is only old data that is not supported by fresh materials.

According to the finder, these two larvae were found in a ferret's cage. in St. Petersburg. it is also reported that a ferret with some redness on the skin, possibly due to strange neighbors.

Hello. Help identify pupae (Found in Krasnoyarsk):
1. The caterpillar was found on the path on September 5, and after several hours spent in the house, it pupated. The jar was covered in cobwebs. The caterpillar was dark, thick, about 3-4 cm. A characteristic growth that is visible in the photo. Brown, shiny, on the sides, 6 black dots ( as if pierced with a needle) Size: 2.8 cm
2. The caterpillar was found in the ground near a cabbage, in late August. The caterpillar was marsh-brown, with some stripes and dots. Presumably a dustpan. The same color as the first one, but pupated in the ground. The pupa is smooth, with small dots on the sides.
Additional question about this pupa. She is 2 weeks old, but often wriggles her "tail". What is the reason for this? ( the same thing used to happen with the first one). Size: 2.3 cm
3. The caterpillar is found in the same way as 2. Presumably a scoop. The track was much darker and had yellow stripes on the sides. The smallest pupa. Size: 2 cm. Dark ( almost black), it was motionless all the time.
When approximately will the butterflies come out of them? Thank you. smile.gif

When approximately will the butterflies come out of them?

Pupae are usually almost indistinguishable in appearance.
1. Scoops from the subfamily metallovidok.
2. Scoop
3. Maybe a dustpan.
"Tail wriggles " - turns, possibly to take a more comfortable position.
The butterflies will come out maybe in a week, or maybe only in spring or summer. Sometimes you have to wait two years.

And what does it depend on whether the pupa overwinters or not?

From the type of butterfly, from the living conditions of the caterpillar, from the conditions of keeping the pupa.

It doesn't have to be exactly one week. Maybe more. I would wait two or three weeks. If the pupa does not show that it is developing, then you can send it for the winter.

Cocoonworm Macrothylacia rubi. The caterpillar of the last age overwinters.
You could feed a lot of things: raspberries, willow, birch, poplar, oak, clover... but I don't think she'll eat - she was already looking for a place to sleep.
