I know it's a bit off-topic, but still: I found a caterpillar, presumably a linden hawk moth, and the caterpillar pupated. Questions: does the light affect the pupa( do I need to hide it in the dark)? Should I leave it lying there as it pupated, or hang it on a stick? If so, what is the correct way to do it?
What temperature to maintain(it is clear,of course, that this is not a super-picky butterfly, but still)?

I found the caterpillar Macrothylacia rubi. Still not pupated, actively feeds. Is this normal? The caterpillar is in a glass jar. Do I need to transfer it to a special store? the cage?

First, by what signs did you determine that you have a caterpillar of the ocular hawk moth? Please post a photo. Second, the light doesn't affect the hawk moth pupae, but it's still best to keep them in the dark. And third, it is absolutely impossible to hang hawk moth pupae on a stick!!! Hawk moth pupae require completely different conditions than those of diurnal, pin-whiskered butterflies.
I will say a few words about what conditions need to be created in order to properly remove a butterfly from a hawk moth pupa. First of all, it should be understood that in hawk moth pupae-this is the wintering stage, the butterfly from the pupa will not be released in two to three weeks, as is usually the case with mace butterflies, but only in spring, not less than six to seven months. For normal wintering, hawk moth pupae need to create the following conditions. It is necessary to take a container with slightly damp sawdust or loose soil, put the pupae there, slightly dig in the same sawdust or soil. During the winter, the container with pupae must be placed either in the basement or cellar (if you live in a private house), or in the main compartment of the refrigerator (not the freezer! if you live in an apartment). During wintering, the substrate must be periodically moistened so that it always remains slightly moist, but not wet. In spring (in mid - March - early April), pupae should be removed from the wintering area and transferred to a warm room, after which butterflies will appear in three to four weeks. Only when breeding hawkmoth and other large moth-eared butterflies, do not forget that the butterfly needs to provide support for the normal spread of its wings during breeding.
It is desirable to maintain the wintering temperature in the range of 0-5 °C.
The fact that the caterpillars of Macrothylacia rubi are still feeding at this time is normal. I also recently found three caterpillars of the raspberry cocoonworm, and they are also still actively eating goat willow. As for pupation, they won't pupate at all this year. Fully grown caterpillars of the raspberry cocoonworm will spend the winter and pupate only in the spring, without taking food. Overwintering of caterpillars of this species can be organized as follows. When the caterpillars are finished feeding, they need to be put in a container with slightly moist sawdust, they should be buried there. Next, for the tank with caterpillars, you need to organize the same wintering modes that I described above for hawk moth pupae. In spring, at the beginning of April, the container with caterpillars should be moved to a warm room, they should get out of the sawdust layer to the surface, build a cocoon and pupate in it. The butterfly will appear three to four weeks after pupation.
While the caterpillar is feeding, you can leave it in a glass jar. But, for these purposes, I use plastic five-liter cans of mineral water.

Sorry, not fake, but Laothoe populi. I can't go to the forum, see all the answers, for this reason I didn't give the caterpillar any land(however, this didn't prevent it from pupating). Is it still necessary to hide it in the ground?

It doesn't matter if it's a linden hawk moth or a poplar moth. The output scheme is the same in both cases.

Just above on this page there is a response to my post (answered by TEMPUS). There are pictures of a green caterpillar - this is it.
