Probably Saturnia pyri, the butterfly will come out in the spring. Put it in a liter jar and take it out to the firewood. Bring it home in early April. the butterfly will be larger than 10cm.

Found a topic on the butterfly hatching forum smile.gif
I think maybe I'll put it in the refrigerator and then it will disappear in the wood, I'm afraid it will freeze.
What kind of frost can they withstand?

It is possible that the deaths of Nos. 1 and 3 could have been avoided by removing (destroying)them. parasite eggs that are clearly visible in the photos.
However, then it would not be known who is parasitizing them wink.gif, and data on hosts are known for a very small number of species...

What did she eat?
It is difficult to say exactly here, since some caterpillars have almost the same color.
At least Phragmatobia fuliginosa can already be discarded smile.gif.

Caterpillar zazimovala, can someone tell me whose?

It seems to be Phragmatobia fuliginosa... or maybe Arctia villica.
Look at the color of the abdominal legs and in the photos from lepiforum. However, I do not know how constant this feature is .

Nick444444, why do you exclude fuliginosis?

So they pupate in the fall.
All those who did not pupate overwintered, but they were Spilosoma sp.

So they pupate in the fall.

Nope. The second generation overwinters as a caterpillar .
And Spilosoma urticae and Spilosoma lubricipeda can be excluded from similar ones. They just spend the winter in pupae.

Strange, on the balcony caterpillars pupated and somewhere in October there were already butterflies. But it was warmer on the balcony. And yet, occasionally imago fuliginosa flies just in early October.

I dare say it's Tenthredo rossii. In any case, as far as it can be considered, only one species corresponds to such an arrangement of spots according to the determinant Lorenz Kraus, 1957.
Again, if I'm not mistaken, this species is now called Tenthredo bifasciata rossii

Donetsk, today, on the trunk of an oak tree. I tried to find a crack deep enough to hide in, but I couldn't. I took it away. Who to expect and how to take care of them? In the meantime, I settled the same way as the caterpillars willies, which I started the grove with eggs, and threw the same dandelion leaves. But maybe that species is one of those that pupate immediately after wintering? Maybe it should be immediately exposed to the cold, and the food is superfluous?

Phragmatobia fuliginosa, will sleep, pupate in spring without feeding.

Thank you. Oh, it's a pity that it won't grow - it's very small compared to Willy. But I still don't have it in my collection, and I don't recall ever seeing it in nature... By the way, during the night she still chewed a little dandelion.

07.11.2016 17:17, insectamo

ENO, could you take a picture of this caterpillar from the belly side, turning it upside down or, for example, from below through the glass, so that the color of the base of the abdominal legs is visible?
And also to Willy.
-----------
Or just look at both species and tell them.
