Caterpillar on August 13, Pskov region.
On a blade of grass was a white egg, from which emerged a green caterpillar with a large black head.. She rolled the leaf into a tube and ate it at night, starting at the top, with only a black head visible in the hole, like a plug.
It grew very slowly, in the picture it is two weeks old and still very small.
In the end, I let her out on the street. Who could it be?

In my opinion, this is a cabbage pupa, inanimate. The following photo is for comparison.

Put the pupa in a cardboard box or in any box that is not smooth from the inside, where the butterfly can crawl along the vertical wall. And wait for the butterfly.

Hello, the 14th day as the caterpillar was buried, today I dug and here is such a view, I did not understand this cocoon from the ground do not touch? She will get out of it and how long to wait for the butterfly now?

Place the cocoon with the open side on the bottom of the jar, it should not have smooth walls, or at least lead two or three ribbons of cloth directly to the walls and wait. When the butterfly comes out, it will climb on them and spread its wings. If the jar is not wide, then cover the neck with gauze and intercept with an elastic band, so that if you forget about the butterfly, it does not fly away into the unknown.
The caterpillar cocoon was well molded, right on the appearance of a capital one, as if for a long wintering period. In general, wait.

Thank you for replying. But so here you can, I covered it with leaves, and just now I realized, cut off the sides of the box and fix the gauze with clips. The box is small. And I think it can be put in a cool place, and suddenly overwinter? And besides, do you need humidity? Maybe spray it on gauze?

Wow, you made her an apartment smile.gifI meant a cut-off five-liter jar from under the water, but this is also possible. Now it is unlikely to hibernate, the integrity of the cocoon is broken, and it would still come out. Once a week, you can spray a little on the gauze, but you don't need much.
It would be better to transfer it to a plastic container, cardboard draws moisture strongly.

Yes. Everything is right.
There is no need to transfer it to plastic.
I keep the pupae in cardboard boxes or in pasty containers, but I always sand the plastic with the roughest sandpaper so that it is not smooth.
In your design, cardboard does not draw out moisture, but on the contrary, when spraying, it will take away excess, you can safely spray as much as you want. Plastic in this regard is noticeably worse.
In any case, the box must be covered with gauze, so that there is not the slightest gap left, otherwise the butterfly will find it and escape.
In a cool place, it does not overwinter, because this (wintering) is not due to the temperature, but to the type of butterfly and the development conditions of a particular caterpillar. Cool will just be released a couple of weeks later.

Caterpillar of some Far Eastern crested bird from Notodontinae, the species is hard to tell.
Here is apparently a closely related local Japanese species.
http://www.jpmoth.org/Notodontidae/Gangari...is_citrina.html

I will correct my definition, thanks a lot for the hint to Alexander (insectamo), this is really some kind of Far Eastern Amphipyra.
More like Amphipyra sp. from a Japanese site:
http://www.jpmoth.org/Noctuidae/Amphipyrin...IDENTIFIED.html
But there may also be the Amphipyra surnia you are looking for
