The participant's profile is also funny

No, but what did you want? Pinocchio has many faces: Hieropis, Fluorine, Chlorine, Mir (there was also something "banned")...
And forumchane "conducted"... have "it" on occasion, answering questions.

Eustace, don't you dare take my nickname! Everyone knows for a long time that you are Papa Carlo, and you have a lot of pinocchio, but I'm not a PRICHOM!!!!

Spring is coming, it is already in Novosibirsk, but aminazin is also rushing along the thawed roads to you, and then there will be compulsory courses of Russian yazyga and Latin wink.gif lol.gif

In fact, on a sober head.
Pro domo sua: in the rough language of the "street", the lines of this " participant "(speaking "mutato nomine") were simply "bullied". Even I can understand that "uchastnegu" changes the sense of proportion (and tact)...
I understand that I am an offtop, and I don't continue any further.

Mr. Muscle isn't here, just alcohol won't do?
and how long to wet for example Chalcosoma caucasus? how do you even know that it is ready to be unfolded? Just the first time. I'm afraid to break it.
Can I put several beetles at once?

I make a water bath, enough for soaking large 6-7 hours, especially small ones.also in reverse order.not when there were no mistakes.
but with butterflies, this is another question, whether the material was missed or left ruined.

11.04.2012 22:18, Dark-f

The most interesting thing is that as soon as I put a copy in the box , the next day it's completely dry (and with the wings lowered...)

I found that the glue (some) that the box is glued together with can affect the appearance of butterflies. Fumes cause the wings to droop. Maybe it's because of the glue that sticks the box together?

13.04.2012 9:43, Dark-f

I am now in plastic containers and soaking, but the condensate from the lid constantly drips on the material. It is passed to put at an angle so that it rolls down-it is not convenient enough. It's easier to get a desiccator

Put a piece of whatman paper over the butterflies in an arch, and your problem will be solved.

I soaked an insect, but its ass fell off.
What should I do?

Did anything fall off?"

Not quite on the topic, but where is it better to dry straightened insects? In the closet or on the window?

Ilya will share a bitter experience, a few years ago I caught pigeons and decided to quickly dry them out on the balcony, it was very hot there. A couple of days later, remembering that there were butterflies on the balcony, I went in and couldn't believe my eyes, only the wings under the tracing paper were left of the butterflies. The one who did it I did not see, but I expect kozheedy. Now I think before...

Glory balcony is glazed, but not air tight

26.04.2012 17:22, Aaata

Slava the balcony is glazed, but not airtight

I apologize for interrupting the conversation. Then the suspects are mice, lizards. And, of course, cockroaches - they can quickly gnaw. Definitely not leatherheads.

In the Crimea (Kerch peninsula) svezhenakolotyh flies I ate a flycatcher (head chewed off). In the Donetsk region, brownie mice repeatedly ate drying steppe dybos.

In Tver, wasps flew into the apartment on the 9th floor and quickly ate the butterflies left to dry, I even thought at first that this was the revenge of the "neighbors", until I saw with my own eyes how the wasp amputated its wings, chews through the breast, eats the carcass and through the window yes.gif

Dear participants, here is the question.
At the end of the night fishing for butterflies, I often do not have the strength and time to spread them out - I have to postpone the spread until the next day, and in the afternoon, sometimes, the work is piled up, and I have to push it all the way to the evening.
Small moths and scoops at the same time have time to dry out quite a bit - to the point of non-inferiority.

Do I understand correctly that if you immediately put freshly caught butterflies in a vessel for soaking, then even small moths will still last about a day in a straightening state?

What are you soaking up? This is me to the fact that in pairs of ethyl acetate they lie in the stain for about a day and even now edit.

Vasily, I'm soaking it in ethyl acetate vapors, in a stain. I buy ethyl acetate at entomon.ru - high-quality.
Many times I have observed exactly the opposite effect: if you overexpose a butterfly in the stain, it "dubeyet". I forgot to take the big female endromis out of the stain and kept her there for five hours. Then it was very difficult to straighten it out - it became stiff (of course, it couldn't dry out in such a long time).
Pyadenitsy dubeyut already in 40-50 minutes.

So what about the fresh-caught ones in the desiccator? It seems like it should help.

Put them in the freezer, freshly caught, then at least in a year you can spread smile.gifthem out

Admittedly, I haven't used pure EA for a long time, but from memory, the material retained its plasticity in the stain for quite a long time. Yes, and in the chemical industry, it is also used in some places as a plasticizer. At one time, I used to use gasoline-galoshes: here, yes, the material should be put as soon as possible (otherwise it will quickly become "stone"). This is the second year. "Laskoi": butterflies for a very long time can be safely edited: the presence of water in the composition of this wash apparently plays a role. And ethyl acetate is better, in my opinion, to take not in entomone, where there is relatively large money for a meager volume (and there is no guarantee that it is "high-quality" there), but here Questioner: then it will be certain that it is clean.

Sometimes, when straightening large, seemingly sufficiently soaked beetles, there is a crunch and the film "under the knee" bursts.
At the same time, the joint can retain mobility, even in a dried state.

Is this normal or insufficient soaking?
How can I avoid this? can you drip warm water on your joints?

People, sorry for the stupid question, still a beginner.I reread the entire topic, but I still didn't understand the sequence of actions...I have a large number of undrawn butterflies (mainly hawkmoth and nymphalids) and the desire to spread them.I don't have a desiccator. There is a large round glass dish with an airtight lid.If I understand, then I pour warm water there, throw phenol, a piece of foam with butterflies on it on the water? And that's it?Please tell me.

exactly! I use vinegar instead of phenol - an excellent tool ( about a tablespoon of 9% vinegar per glass of water in the desiccator)

I want to put the dots, what is the best way to prevent mold when soaking?
someone will use fairy, someone vinegar or potassium permanganate, someone phenol, thymol and even more powerful substances that can seriously affect your health.

Which tool is optimal? fairy has dyes, vinegar can affect the color?

21.10.2012 10:12, Black Coleopter

Zunimasse: Try adding a little bit of ethyl alcohol when soaking.
I've never heard of fae, vinegar, or potassium permanganate. Phenol and the like stale insects.
