Friends from the Kiev Zoo had a normal output of Mantis from frozen ooteks.. Those libraries that were released last year were also incubated at -5.
I lowered the temperature of wood animals in several steps - from 26 to 15, from 15 to 12, from 12 to 7 and from 7 to 3. for 3 weeks.
I haven't experimented with ultraviolet light on praying mantises, but many people keep them without any ultraviolet light.. Maybe there's enough light through the window.
Although experiments on dragonflies gave an excellent result( No adult dragonfly lived even a week without radiation) But dragonflies, like agamas, spend more of their lives in the sun, and mantises - in the shade of trees! I've never seen mantises climb into the light..

25.11.2007 19:24, Мих

you can try to raise the temperature ...

Up to how much to raise the? I gradually raised the temperature from 5 to 26 degrees... Somewhere higher. And already 2 months + 26.

... within a couple of months...

Is there no more accurate data? A couple of them have already passed , but the larvae are not gugu.
you can't sell the treehouse library, or if you want, we can trade, write to us hdhog@ua.fm

I don't sell animals.. Not mantis-razvodnik..
I would have changed, but for whom? A few mantis pups, or a teka of Egypt? However, it will not be quite a fair exchange - then already p3 teki wood for half-Egyptian.. or whatever it is?

where is the guarantee that my tech is alive?

26.11.2007 19:16, Мих

Well ? Really none of the local experts do not know the timing of incubation of arboreal trees?

28.11.2007 17:45, Мих

Good day to all! Who can tell you what color the newly released larvae of tree mantises are? I have to go to work, and they still haven't come out...

29.11.2007 23:15, Боря

Usually brownish-green, the color may be darker or lighter, depending on the color of the surrounding objects. The walking legs have light transverse stripes.
The M. religiosa ootheca was postponed in early September, leaving without a cold period on December 22, last year.

Thanks! I was too desperate to wait...

hello!I've already written to you!about Bonka!I have two clutches from her, it's been 2 months but the larvae are not visible!what are the general deadlines?and still have the option to buy praying mantises now?

04.12.2007 20:17, Боря

At MantidForum, everyone agrees that M. religiosa oothecae definitely need wintering grounds...

Hello everyone is there anyone here who can sell mantises in Moscow?
or tell me in which pet store you can (in Moscow) buy a praying mantis!
please tell me!!!

05.02.2008 19:58, Боря

Exit of tree mantises (Hierodula transcaucasica). The ooteks were deposited last summer and wintered on the windowsill behind the electric curtain at t~10-15*. The yield is uneven, 5-10 larvae appear every day.

Me too!!! And how many days in a row do they go out? I have the first ooteka postponed on August 23, the second on the 24th, the 3rd on the 26th, and so on.. Only 60 pieces.
Two people came out of the second one yesterday, and one more today. Will they keep coming out?
Incubated in terrible conditions, I probably very sharply lowered the temperature, and on New Year's eve it was cut off from the end of a small piece to look at the eggs. I
was very surprised by the exit.
So how many days can they leave the same library?

20.02.2008 18:59, Мих

( the rest of the ooteks lie normally at room temperature, the jumps were not sharp. What about the humidity? Moisturized daily?

20.02.2008 19:01, Мих

How do the larvae live, what do they eat, and what is the mortality rate?

23.02.2008 18:23, Мих

Why don't you say anything? smile.gif I already have 6 of them. every day, two of them hatch.

23.02.2008 22:53, Боря

Congratulations!
I did not take any additional measures to get out, apparently, the biological clock worked. They still come out several times a day. I have four oothecae, and it is interesting that hatching comes from those two small oothecae that were laid later, and the two early large ones are 'dormant'.
Kids feel better in the humid atmosphere of a room greenhouse, near the battery. Those who appeared first are already around the fourth stage. The mortality rate is about two or three per dozen. I feed 'artificially', pieces of cockroaches and crickets with tweezers.

24.02.2008 14:18, Мих

Don't bother feeding with tweezers? I threw my legtail and drosophila - they catch and eat themselves. I also go out one by two per night, only 8 pieces, there were no lines yet. They come out of the second delayed library, the first and the other 58 are asleep.
It's a little early for the biological clock... it's still winter.
And how many of them have already been released? What are the linear dimensions of the library? How long does the first molt take? what does "feel better" mean ? less gbn or more active? What is the probable cause of the deaths of those two or three people in the village? Sids or molting?

24.02.2008 16:34, Боря

The first molt, when kept warm (24-26*C), occurs in 10 days. At room temperature, two to three times longer. Animals kept warm are more active and have a better appetite. The reason for the death is that not everyone is equally willing to take food with tweezers. Without taking into account the losses, I now have about thirty of them. Sections 2 and 1.5 see

24.02.2008 17:07, Мих

Then why do you feed with tweezers? Drosophila, have you tried cricket dust?

25.02.2008 15:39, Боря

I don't want to bother with fruit flies - they fly away, and I didn't have a small cricket output then.

01.03.2008 9:15, Мих

Useful tip: to prevent fruit flies from flying apart, put them in the freezer for 5-7 minutes, and immediately throw them to the praying mantises. After 2 minutes, they will recover and start crawling, and even later they will fly. But mantises usually catch crawlers.

08.03.2008 3:20, Мих

How are you doing?" I am already 23, the oldest of the 3rd age.
18 from B ooteka, 4 from D , 1 from A. Two people were killed - one when leaving the ooteka, the other-SIDS. 10 individuals of the 2nd age easily hunt prussians and locusts (1-2 b-b)

08.03.2008 8:00, gumenuk

And I fed the mantis that lived on my chandelier with meat. I tied a piece of meat with a string and swung it in front of the praying mantis until it caught it. I brought a little boy from the south and he stayed with me until October. Even made a masonry on the agave, but nothing came out.

08.03.2008 17:18, Мих

What kind of praying mantis was it? It is clear that they are not extinct, they are not parthenogenetic...

The fastest M. religiosa is from the Black Sea coast. There is a picture of him and a grasshopper being butchered

09.03.2008 21:42, Боря

Now I have about twenty, approximate age L4-5.
The dimensions are already such that after one molt you will need to transfer from small cups to larger containers.

10.03.2008 1:52, Бабочник

I have M. religiosa bred and without wintering-on the windowsill above the battery. But wintering is much better usually.

10.03.2008 12:30, Мих

much better usually&? what's better? survival rate is higher? the number of people who left?

10.03.2008 12:32, Мих

... you will need to transfer from small cups to larger containers.

And I already transplanted my own after the second molt into liter cans.

Where is the snapshot? It's probably a treehouse - there are more of them out there!

Great quality! Wood, stopudovo.

Sell tree mantises in Kiev! There are a lot of my larvae! Don't tell anyone?
I would like to keep their huge k-vo myself, but I have to enroll, it takes time to prepare for exams, and the animals are starving. I can happily put it in good hands for a while-somewhere until July.. for half the offspring.

The first and second photos are of Mantis religiosa (female). The third is Hierodula tenuidentata or H. transcaucasica, which is arboreal (also female).

Everything would be fine, but according to the author's idea, this is all one praying mantis!(?)
the first ones are similar to the mantis, but you can't convince anything - there are no characteristic dark spots on the "claws" ...
And the latter has a clear pterostigma, which means it's definitely woody.

Oh, sorry, bad looking! The first one is really a mantis.. As for the second one, I doubt it.

As for the second photo, count the white bumps on the forward-facing edge of the front leg basin. M. religiosa has a lot of them, and H. tenuidentata/transcaucasica has about 4.

Bolivaria brachyptera, which is from the vicinity of Novorossiysk, Where exactly in the vicinity is it caught? What is the name of the district? Are there many of them? Really catch a divorce?
