I don't know, they already meet here in the first half of April, but try to find them. After all, there are no solid fruit orchards. Fabre achieved very impressive results by luring males to females, but that was in France. It would be interesting to try it in our region. It is a pity that when I was presented with the only female that I saw alive, and who lived with me for several more days, laying many fertilized eggs, I did not know about these experiments. Then only males came across, and in the welter-middle years they stopped coming across anything at all.

Does anyone know what motivates butterflies to come out of their cocoon? Maybe a temporary program, then why is it different for everyone?

It's the temperature and humidity that motivates, but more so the temperature! If it gets warmer outside before their usual time of summer, they may well come out earlier, say a week or a week and a half earlier, but usually if this happens, then a small number of imagos come out, all the rest in their scheduled time!

Sorry, the typo came out: * unfertilized eggs.

I will buy pupae of S. Pyri or S. pavonia, preferably a lot (from 10), if they really need to be transported somehow to Ghana.Naberezhnye Chelny.
I really want to breed, but over the past two years I haven't managed to catch an adult in the light, or find at least one caterpillar in nature (I don't know if I was unlucky or not where they tried to catch them).
write to the bos or on the soap s-k-shop@yandex.ru if anyone can help, please.

I have not heard that pyri is found in Tatarstan.

pavonia managed to meet several times, there was a hope that pyri is also there, but apparently they do not live here.
so the only hope is to buy pupae or grass from someone, if they can really be transported by some courier service like emc

What a tricky system with cardboard tubes

06.05.2018 20:04, СаняМухолов

Don't you put any substrate in there?

13.05.2018 16:18, Евгений88

If it doesn't work out try manual pairing

Can I buy cocoons from you? Or an exchange?

09.06.2020 23:03, alexdav

12.05 pulled out the cocoons from the refrigerator (19) pcs., 06.06-1 male came out, 07.06-1 male, 08.06-3 males. At dusk, they were released from the window, and the light of lanterns at the entrances did not detain them. this afternoon 09.06 the female finally came out. As it began to get dark, I put a cage with a female on the window and by 22 o'clock one male flew in from the street and after 10 minutes he started his duties.

Interesting! Do you think the released male is back? After all, in theory, they should not be in nature for a month already.

I had one small female last year in early April, but then the weather was cold, and no one came to her. As a result, she laid unfertilized eggs and died. That was the end of my Saturnian epic. It would be better if I dried her mother the year before last, it was large and whole (before the start of egg laying).

Maybe released. Next time I'll mark it with a marker. I tried to upload a photo, but it doesn't work. We have the time of summer-the end of May, June, so there is a possibility that an "alien" has arrived.

yesterday and today, 1 female came out each. On yesterday's one, the male arrived at 00: 30, as it should be, they sat together all day and only at dusk they uncoupled.

It's amazing! In theory, you should fly them, on the contrary, earlier than we do.

15.06.2020 21:07, alexdav

They don't fly before, it's still cool in May, and only in June it's warm enough. Now the most years.

In Dagomys (Sochi) caught S. pyri at the end of June. In Gelendzhik as a child in the pioneer camp caught in mid-June. At the same time, in the Astrakhan region (Dosang), we caught them several times in the very beginning of May and it was not particularly warm...
