I caught a glimpse of an overwintered nymphalid today, most likely polychloros/xanthomelas, with less chance of io. Khmelnitsky region, Slavuta.

Good evening to all
I went today to get water at the spring, good water by the way, delicious, I hope that it is not very poisoned. This is over the lake "eight", southern landings. But there was also a secret goal to find another Demetrias atricapillus, in addition to the pair caught in January. I didn't even think about two of them. We managed to do this, although we had to re-sow a lot of last year's grass. Built last fall such a lattice with yach. one on one see and a small tray just under ryukzachek. The unit came out useful. So, both the required atricapillus and the not superfluous Demetrias monostigma were caught in it. And as usual, from the already non-collected Drypta dentata, Tachyta nana, Calodromius spilotus, Dromius linearis. Of the staphylins, I took several Rugilus for definition. I also took Cassida nobilis, and then in the collection there is an old copy impaled on a homemade pin. All this took almost two hours, sometimes in a light rain.
And when I had already collected water and finally sifted the last piece of grass, I got a big gold medal. It was Odacantha melanura. For the first time I caught such a bug, although of course I looked at it on different sites. And suddenly, here it is. Don't give me a standing ovation. shuffle.gif

At the weekend, it got warmer, I wanted to open the "butterfly" season in the first days of spring, I visited a deciduous forest.

As it turned out, it was too early – overwintering whiteflies-nymphalids and spring moths are not yet visible, only small diptera fly. So I decided to look for wintering micro-lepidoptera under the lagging bark of dry trees. But there was a lot of interesting stuff:
often the wings of poorly wintered flat moths (Agonopterix, Depressaria) were found, sometimes whole, live – only a couple of times.

Mompha divisella-confusella were common-an autopsy will show who, one instance of another species (I think subbistrigella).

Several times I caught mating Phyllonorycter agilella, small infections – even with a normal camera in super-macro mode, it's small.

as soon as it got dark, the temperature dropped to -2, but the sun shone all day - it was warm (for the last 2 weeks approximately)

Good day everyone!
I have an addition today, Pseudoips prasinana has been released.
I found the caterpillar on 18.09.2013. Belarus Grodno region Zelvensky district 1,2 km S-W dZoloteyevo in the birch-sasnova forest planting, on this day pupated.
I spent the winter in the garage. Added to the heat on 9.02.2014. The experience was a success.

Good people!
Galovo, hydrological reserve, 15 ha, 1982, Ukraine, Malinsky district, Lyubovichi forestry, block 39. Sedge-sphagnum bog is a regulator of the level of subsurface water and the water regime of small rivers in the Irshi river basin. Wetland birds nest here.
Can you help me locate block 39? Who's ever been there? Can someone throw a map of the forest area? Щиро дякую.

Today I decided to take a bike ride to the forest park, a kilometer and a half from the house.
In spring, the heat is +10, although the wind is from the north, cold.
Archiearis parthenias flew out, I saw 40 pieces, a couple of hives.

So, since I collected sednya woodlice, then you can post it here)))
I was already in a different place and farther away, but today it was worse than yesterday, the wind changed and was very strong, as a result, on the hilltops and the plain there was such a thing, well, it's just in general, small grains of sand flew, branches, even a small stone was thrown by the wind eek.gif
Interseno, what was going on there in the winter when the wind blew up to 30 m / s at T ok-15C in icy rain, you probably get there - immediately death mol.gif
Not for nothing is there a song about a freezing coachman ...
Silence was only in VERY deep ravines, it was almost as warm as in summer, all sorts of animals flew and crawled there, and only kravchiki crawled on top, although they probably sometimes flew, but not of their own free will )))))
Crocuses are already all over, frogs are at maximum flowering, gymnosperms are blooming, adonis are just climbing out in the mass, spring ones are not visible at all, and the rinder has not yet come out, although this is already good for such a period. According to some intelligence reports and our own observations, apricot generative buds are 100% intact, and in general, there are no signs of freezing, although there were encroachments.

I continued my experiment with trying to get a good tan, which is cool of course, but the effect is sooo weak, despite the fact that I tan well and quickly. The height of the sun is now about 41 degrees at noon, so it turns out that this, to put it mildly, is not very enough for tanning, there is something in two days, but it is barely visible. So sooooo dubious stories about tanning in winter in the Crimea, when the sun is generally about 20 degrees. at noon rises)))

And I especially liked the photo with a bunch of Harmonia axyrydis, as well as with butterflies anguloptera and polychrome. I want to meet them myself this year. In winter, I found all sorts of ladybirds under our bark, including Harmonia axyrydis, although they were all dead (well, sort of dead. The bark did not fit well to the dry tree, the temperature was somewhere around -15 gr.).

Friends, do not politicize the forum. It was not enough to have a discussion about historical justice and international law here. By and large, the topic should have been called this from the very beginning - at least, based on the specifics of the natural conditions of the Crimea.

Hello everyone. Short, dry, informative
Yesterday, Chisinau, southern forest plantations, Lake Eight, 19 degrees Celsius, south-easterly wind, sometimes gusty.
The grass is turning green, the sun is shining, and I spent two hours replanting last year's weeds mixed with grass and leaves. The first and most important surprise - Chlaenius tristis (Schaller, 1783), met him for the first time, did not even immediately believe him. This is the fifth species of chlenius personally encountered in Moldova (plus vestitus, nigricornis, nitidulus, spoliatus). There are nine more to find. In the same last year's garbage, two new species of b. cows were discovered for me - Coccidula scutellata and Tytthaspis sedecimpunctata. Small creatures, but still very pleasant. Three coccidulas were decently spread out yesterday, they will go to one die. And titaspis were not given, if I fought with them for more than an hour, to the point of back pain. Two ruined, the rest will have to be glued with their legs tucked up. There are also two or three types of amar, badisters, dromius, I didn't take any of them. Staphylins, like everywhere else, are small, many and different. I took three, which turned out to be Zyras limbatus. Also new. And a few more interesting snappers, so far we haven't been able to identify them, something like Agriotes obscurus. I'll lift them up to the corners, then I'll sit over them.
In addition, among the numerous Bembidion biguttatum reeds, a single B. tetracolum was found, and this was the first time. In general, bambi is interesting to identify, first from the pictures, and this topic is well developed on the web, and no matter how similar they are, you can still notice the differences. Elytra pattern, pronotum shape, leg color... Again, the eye and artistic flair. Then we turn to green and state with satisfaction. Probably, it's not professional, but it's great, you search and search, and finally you understand - this is it!!
There were a few other interesting finds, some overly blue harpalus zabroides, some small pterostichus that doesn't look like mine. And Galeruca rufa with slightly deformed elytra, like a tailcoat. Etc. Well, that's it.
I just want to add it. The most interesting and unexpected surprises happen in early spring and late autumn. In the sense of beetles.

Agriopis marginaria (a lot), Apocheima pilosaria, Biston strataria, Alsophila aescularia, Hypena rostralis, Lithophane ornitophus, Conistra vaccinii, Conistra erythrocepaha, Cerastis rubricosa, Orthosia incerta, Orthosia cruda, Achlya flavicornis arrived on Saturday.

Mini-report. On the night of March 23-24, we decided to open the season. We went with Musson Max to Chernihiv region, Srebnyansky district, the village of Gurbentsy. The weather was excellent, although it turned colder at night. All the time we tried to find the moon, but it was hidden somewhere, so we didn't see it, although the sky was clear. The sun shone from 18.30 to 23.00 Flew dry, however, as for March, so maybe nothing. A gentleman's set arrived - several moths (Biston strataria, Lycia hirtaria), Achlya flavicornis, Orthosia incerta. In general, I caught four butterflies , and Maxim already six! Of the beetles, we were persistently attacked by several Dytiscus marginalis. I came across, however, an interesting dustpan for this area Dasypolia templi. Polychrome plants, lemongrass plants ,storks fly during the day, tanks and other vehicles drive along the roads. Spring!
