From May 27 to May 31, we went with Diletant to the Zhytomyr region on the Ovruch-Slovechansky ridge. They caught it during the day, in the light, and set traps for carabiners. We wanted to stay a little longer, but the weather drove us to Kiev today. In the morning, heavy rains began to fall. We are happy with the trip, although part of the planned one - Laothoe amurensis i Carabus menetriesi was not caught. At night, it flew well at the beginning and almost nothing at the end. Last night it was cold-about ten degrees and windy. Of the interesting things caught during the day-Colias palaeno, Clossiana eunomia and Limenitis populi, however, the latter was quite numerous in places. The night has not yet been sorted out, but the females of Acossus terebra and Phyllodesma tremulifolia, as well as the thinworm Hepialus fusconebulosa, were pleased. There are five species of carabus caught in the traps: arvensis, convexus, granulatus, glabratus, and violaceus. Of the negative aspects, the midge was very annoying, and the mosquito repellents did not impress him. A little saved thick clothing and nakomarnik. In general, I still itch.

This is what I went for a walk...
In general, DanMar, PVOzerskiy, in our steppe your straight-winged birds have taken over!!!
I've never seen anything like this before!!
It's just incredible, a huge mass of prusov, jumping, eating, crawling columns along the roads, molting druze on branches, and there and dry.
In the depressions where there is still grass, a HUGE number of tettigonias, decticus, gampsokleis and other grasshoppers, they fly out like butterflies from under your feet, you go like in some kind of surre, tettigonias fly out from under your feet, like bells during a mass departure))
The flat part of the steppe is just bare land with a mass of prus on it, there are no other animals, no grasshoppers or butterflies.. I here thought that and spiders something there is no. But..

This is the second story.

I was walking to myself and chet thought that the karakurts were invisible, probably they were doing well now, and then I looked, right in the middle of the bare ground, a hefty female karakurt jumped out from under the house and back.. I decided to take a picture of her, started squatting and wanted to lie down on the ground for comfort, and during this process my eyes probably started to get big and my hair straight lol.gif lol.gif lol.gif
Then, near the ground, I understood.. that vokgug is all covered with karakurt nests!!!!
I was standing with one foot on two nests, the other on three, and the backpack was all in the nests..
Males and females, all mixed up, nest houses next to each other, some of them directly one goes into the other. At that moment, some kind of panic appeared, I began to frantically tuck my pant leg into my sock and remember if I had a box of matches with me)))
Then he sat for a long time and picked nests with a stick, admiring the variously colored females, some despite their small size were already completely black, some with white hearts, some with red ones.. beauty)))

The first image shows the most typical migration nest of the karakurtikha, whose protruding paws are visible from behind the tent. Soon they will grow to the penultimate molt and go on a journey)
I feel that this season the local sheep farmers will be unhappy...

A clear example of the benefits of dropping paws for a grasshopper, and here it came in handy))

I never go on roads in the steppe, to be honest, I was shocked by some local naturalists who said that they went and saw nothing.. and then in practice it turned out that in addition to ka kpo paths they did not go there ))))

But this time I was going back to the road lol.gif lol.gif lol.gif

05-06. 07. 2014 Kiev region, Borodyansky district, mixed forest in the village of Novaya Buda. We went with Musson Max, Diletant and Anton - he's new to our company. They fought their way to the place of deployment along a forest road. I was pulled twice by the cable, Maxim also almost got stuck once. They decomposed on a large scale - they put 4 light traps, put soil traps and caught during the day. The flight was intense, a lot of things flew in. Of the interesting nesk. examples of crested whales Drymonia velitaris, Drymonia obliterata, scoops Arytrura musculus, Catephia alchymista [not so rare, but beautiful and absent from my collection], Catocala promissa, Eucarta virgo [this is now already in the third point comes across!]. Nothing interesting came to the traps - Carabus arvensis, Carabus cancellatus, Carabus glabratus. During the day, we hoped to catch Nymphalis antiopa, it is in those places. But alas, in the Kiev region, it has become very rare in recent years, although in my youth I caught it in my yard in Kiev. In general, the day is very poor. Flying a lot of battered Lycaena virgaureae, a little Apatura ilia and a bunch of banal satyrs. In general, something like that.

From July 18 to July 20, 2014, we went to the Odessa region. Kotovsky district The expedition consists of Diletant, Musson Max and myself. The weather was fine, with a light rain falling once. The day's catch was scanty. From the interesting caught some zygenid, Hamearis lucina and almost everything. We flew in a variety of Neptis sappho, podalirii, Colias erate. Night fishing was a bit more fun. Four catocal species - C. sponsa, C. promissa, C. humepaea, and C. fulminea-arrived from Sovok. From hawk moth Dolbina elegans!!!, Marumba quercus, torn Mimas tiliae, Sphinx ligustri. The latter is sometimes en masse. The female of the tufts is Harpyia milhauseri!, Ptilodon cucullina, and Drymonia querna in the mass. well, all sorts of Spatalia argentata, Stauropus fagi, Phalera bucephala. The cocoonworms were plum and oak-leaved. There were almost no beetles. The trip turned out to be quite informative and interesting.
