01.01.2014 near Saint Petersburg. I was in the forest, picked up chanterelles. I didn't take the net.
Happy New Year to all of you !

Yesterday the photo didn't want to be attached, the connection is bad in the forest!

This...how??? confused.gif Haven't you got any snow down there yet?"??

And mushrooms grow...??? confused.gif(January 2 on the calendar)

There is no snow, today was the coldest day, +0.3 C, but the puddles froze, and before that, about three weeks ago it was +6. On November 23, I scored half a bag of chanterelles, but I didn't put it out, because five years ago there was a record on December 11.

On January 12, I went to the forest to see what the November snowfall had done... There is almost no snow in the forest (photo 1), on the edges and along the roads there are many fallen young pines and branches from old ones (photo 1.1). The expanse of bark beetles will be in the spring...
In the lowlands, I came across elms, on which young winter honey agarics grew during the January thaw (photo 2), which I picked up... (photo 3).
Zhukov looked mainly under the bark, only the background species (such as Phratora) came across. Then, in the woods, I came across an old hollow linden tree that had been removed from a nearby village. In the rotten walls of the hollow, he picked up a bunch of Ampedus nigroflavus (photo 5), a couple of Ostoma ferrugineum and accidentally stabbed a single Grynocharis oblonga with a knife (photo 6).
And finally - a plate of January mushroom soup... (photo 4)

Here are some pies! smile.gif
New species of butterflies migrated to the north of Russia
today 13: 02 ( Gismeteo)
Scientists from the Komi Republic have calculated the number of butterflies that migrated to the Russian North last year, and it turned out that 20 new species were spotted and photographed last summer. Scientists believe that unusually hot and dry summers are the reason for migration.
In the entire history of entomological observations, such a high number of butterflies in the Komi Republic has never been recorded, <url> reports. In addition, due to favorable weather conditions, not only butterflies migrate to the north, but also other insects — grasshoppers and hornets.
Entomologist Sergey Pestov said that the number of hornets is increasing: now they are found not only on the edges of the forest, but also in the city. Even 15 years ago, there were no hornets in Komi at all, but now they are found everywhere in the south of the republic.

Following Gennadievich, I decided to post one of the results of the autumn "bookmarks"...
At the end of August, I collected wormy acorns with fruitworm larvae and put them in a glass container with sand. At the beginning of February, I took it out of a dark place, a pair of pupae appeared in the glass in the cradles, one of which turned into a beetle... On February 22, on the eve of the holiday, I carefully removed the beetle, without shaking out the sand (so as not to disturb the others).
It turned out to be an oak fruitworm-Curculio glandium

Collected from the ground-20-25 pieces, immediately forgot to shift, for three days they were lying in a bag in a plastic bag-more than a dozen larvae crawled out of the acorns - all (both acorns and larvae) were thrown at work in a 1.5-liter jar half filled with sand. I couldn't stand the cold, they were standing in the study under the desk. True, the office is cool, in the cold it was +15-16

Here the main thing is to guess with the humidity of the sand. For several years now, I have been" inhaling " in the breeding of fruit veins, but there are less than half of successful attempts (if at least one beetle is bred)... and never with nut (C. nucum) at all...

This afternoon, my son and I went to a suburban forest (the temperature was somewhere + 6) to see how spring is coming. There is almost no snow left in the city, but in some places there is still snow in the forest, but rather it is not snow, but a crust of ice. But even on the edges warmed by the sun, the ground is still frozen and even on warm tree trunks there are practically no active insects. All the beetles found during the tour were still in diapause. We did not take background species such as Phosphuga atrata or Phratora. We collected a series of Acritus minutus under the bark of a fallen poplar tree and found one Bothrideres contractus under the bark of a fir tree that had dried up after a fire at ground level.

Monday, March 10. I went to the grocery store. Right in the city center (Ivanovo, Central market district), Nymphalis xanthomelas flew in large numbers.

Tuesday, March 11. In the first half of the day it was overcast, but in the second half the clouds parted and the sun came out. The temperature was about +7. I went out of town, took a walk along one of my usual routes (Ivanovo region, Ivanovo district, near the village of Afanasovo). He noted that the snow outside the city melts extremely unevenly - there are places without snow at all and completely dry, but there are places where there is still so much snow that you can only get through with great difficulty. No xanthomelas were seen that day, but two flying males of Gonepteryx rhamni were observed.

Spring is coming.

We have no snow at all around the town of Luga, which is 130 km south of St. Petersburg, for two weeks now. The Luga River glistens merrily in the sun, only the backwaters are frozen. From the middle of the road to St. Petersburg, snow begins to appear, but very little. It's warm and windy.

The city of Veliky Novgorod.
The snow has already completely melted, the first green plants appear. The third day is sunny, warm weather (although today it is windy).
As a matter of fact, our lepidopteran friends also appeared. Today I saw the first Nymphalis xanthomelas this year.

It's crazy! And we have no greenery at all yet, even on the warmed slopes, only tulips are making their way in the flower beds. They say they saw a mother-and-stepmother in the city and caught Phigalia pilosaria on March 9.

I was also pleasantly surprised. So far, only in some quiet sunny places fresh juicy-green grass breaks through. Little by little. But already something.

23.03.2014 Ivanovo region, Ivanovsky district, the vicinity of the city of Kokhma (the town of Sedeyevo). I went to the country, took a walk along the route that has already become popular with Ivanovo entomologists. The weather today was wonderful - the sun was shining, it was warm (about +12 degrees) and there was no strong wind. In short, everything was conducive to a good walk in the fresh air. This, in fact, it turned out. The snow in the forest was almost gone, remaining only in the most shady places, so it was easy to navigate, much easier than on my last trip to nature (March 11). The main goal was to check whether Archiearinae moths had flown out. Result: no, they haven't crashed yet. Wintering nymphalids, mainly Nymphalis xanthomelas, were found in relatively large numbers. Here I would like to tell you about one interesting feature. In the city (Ivanovo), the number of xanthomelas seemed to me to be higher than outside the city. When you go somewhere in the city, no matter where-to work, or to the grocery store, or somewhere else-you constantly see N. xanthomelas flying in large numbers on the streets and you can say that it is found here in large numbers. Outside the city today, I observed a slightly different picture - N. xanthomelas, although they were, were definitely smaller than in the city and not in the mass. Most of the Xanthomelas seem to have flown from the forest to the city. In addition to xanthomelas, two other species were found - one Aglais urticae and at least one Nymphalis vaualbum. The male lemongrass was also present today.

Interesting. But in my area, parthenias has not yet taken off (on March 23, I did not meet any outside the city), although the Ivanovo region is much south of St. Petersburg, and in theory everything should start earlier.

although the Ivanovo region is much south of St. Petersburg, and in theory everything should start earlier in our country.

Much also depends on the degree of continental climate. The deeper into the mainland, the later nature wakes up.

Spring is approaching in the Saratov region. Today, after school, I went to Lesnoy.
I decided not to take the camera. Wandered around, mixed mud. I didn't really catch anything. On the trees, not only there are no buds, but even hints of them. A lot of butterflies fly, I saw a C-white anglewing and some polychromatic flowers. Under the bark - solid water and ice. I caught a few larvae, probably cucuidae, as well as wireworms.

I think in a week and a half you can already open the season.
