This year, it is difficult to draw the line between winter and spring. According to the air temperature (slight frost, light thaw) and milky snow, we can assume that half of the days of February were already early spring. Spiders (4feb_3, 4feb_4, 7feb_2, 28feb_6), collemboles (26feb_3) and insect larvae (26feb_1,28feb_7, mar5_2) crawled quite confidently in the snow, and the mushrooms "Orange Trembler" (26feb_4) were also alive. Towards the end of February, with the appearance of meltwater on the ice along the edges of frozen meadow puddles and lakes (28feb_4), other insects also became visible on the snow (28feb_2, 28feb_3). The first really warm, +8 degrees, spring day (though with a strong wind) is March 8. The first butterflies, xanthomelae (10mar_1,11mar_2) and lemongrass, were seen on March 10. March 11 +9 degrees (with sub-zero temperature and light frost at night, as in previous days), snow remained only in the most secluded places of the forest and shrubs (11mar_3), although the soil is frozen almost everywhere at depth. Hazel blossoms and dusts profusely, the first larks, starlings, and other bird trifles sing. In places, the grass has a lot of light cobwebs stretched out in the wind, like in autumn. In the middle of the lakes, the ice is still strong, so you can go fishing if you manage to pass the coastal edges with thin ice or without it at all (10mar_4). Early spring!

Tenderness. Wikipedia says that the ermine "has a black tail tip all year round." My instance didn't have anything black anywhere.

If you don't mind, can you explain the best way to get to Dosang from Voronezh? Bus/hitchhiking? where to get in, where to get out, etc ...

17.03.2016 9:05, Maksim M.

You take the money and the card. You go to the railway station in Voronezh...... it's been a long time....... you arrive at the railway station in Voronezh, you go home without money....Well, in a serious way.You arrive in Astrakhan-in any way-and there the minibus goes straight to Dosang. You will negotiate with people on the spot-it already depends on communication.

From Voronezh to Borisoglebsk. In Borisoglebsk by train to Astrakhan or Baku. In Dosang, they all have to stop.
P. S. Our steam train goes ahead in Dosang stop...

It's been a long time since I went to Dosang without a car, but I went by car last year and talked to the locals, asking for friends who were planning a walking trip. As far as I know, there are currently only 2 trains stopping in Dosang, at inconvenient times (late in the evening), and these are trains like Volgograd-Grozny. It is better to get to Astrakhan, and from there by minibus or hitchhiker.
Without a car in Dosang, there are three options:
1) arrange with a hired driver to drop off and return on a certain day, along a dirt road to one of the points east of Dosang, carefully planning according to maps and GPS. Keep in mind that you can cross the railway north of Dosang by car in a limited number of places. Take water from 4 liters per person per day + NZ. The water of slaughterhouses and temporary reservoirs is usually salty, and those with potable water are rare and guests are usually not welcome, although you can go to extremes. In this case, you can throw fishing gear into the light and take gasoline at the nearest gas station. Mobility on foot, within 5km. If you do not get up next to the cats and mask the camp, you can leave it for several hours. Be prepared to explain yourself to livestock owners driving around the area. Expenses.
2) have an overnight stay somewhere in housing in the village, and from there make short walking excursions (once upon a time it was possible to arrange at the local anti-plague station, but now I don't know; there were no hotels in Dosang and, most likely, no). On the plus side, you can visit different stations, from deflationary sandboxes along cattle trails to the Akhtuba floodplain. In terms of variety, such excursions will give more than any two separate points. You can catch the light at the place where you spend the night, walk with a flashlight, or catch the light at a distance, if there is a compact power source. In the disadvantages - it is difficult to find a suitable overnight stay, do not reach some specific stations, costs.
3) have an overnight stay in a tent in the floodplain of Akhtuba, use the local bad water, turn down the camp and hide it during excursions. An option for cool backers. The cheapest, but hemorrhoid, and there is a risk of being left without a camp. Nothing to charge with. In post-Soviet times, I went like this 2 times, I didn't like it.

Sorry, my previous post is

19.03.2016 21:49, Maksim M.

In a bad scenario-this is without listing the horrors of any degree-a trip alone to those places can be fatal-in the truest sense. If you walk in the village and around-this is the only option to consider.Although the question arises-and maybe it should not be done now and in this way-eh???Can still buy auto-gen-pribluda and cooperate with someone from the forum, as far as I know-there are those who want to....Sergukha went a year earlier -but together and it was in dosang that we spent 2 days-we just walked on the first sand along the road at night and during the day.Special buzz in May there may not be created. The floodplain in May also has features-for example, high water-dick where you will pass...but you can catch bumblebees and xylocop under the acacia trees in the village...people will get tired of explanations....I would not have gone on foot, especially alone....

Yesterday, my friends and I did not sit down and went to the outskirts. The sun shone from 19.20 to 21.10, the temperature is about +5. Bottom line: several Eupsilia transversa, one Conistra rubiginea and some Orthosia, 2 Xylena vetusta, several Achlya flavicornis. From moth 3 Agriopis marginaria and one Alsophila aescularia, Lycia pomonaria and Apocheima hispidaria.

ENO, stop shitting topics with your stream of consciousness. You have a whole colleague on X for the flood.. his nickname starts with, a ...C ends. Guess who we are talking about...? Here you are, please, and argue with him, whose steppe is steeper, or who is better than Parashenko or Yaytsenyukh. At the same time, it is best that all your showdowns remain between you.

The point is that such asp-on any river (including even the Akhtuba) - is a valuable trophy, this is not a pig carp of some pond, fattened with compound feed, and Gennadich-failed, you know. And I just realized how to catch asp in Svyatogorsk (the Seversky Donets River, they are very large there, but they are very careful, fishermen in the vast majority of cases can only look at them and smoke nervously), I got a bait that was definitely supposed to work (volker Maria), and then bang and war. Then, however, on that volker pulled a lot of Donetsk okushki and Crimean lufarikov, but this is a completely different weight category. So I envy you with white envy.

Black Coleopter, it looks like you've had a rough day today, maybe you should turn off your computer and get some sleep?

And what exactly is the discontent? Don't know the classics? So that's your problem...
But I have exactly the same associations. Well, if such a catch is bad luck, then what is considered good luck? Maybe a half-ton beluga, a grouper,or an arapaima? So, really "... too much carousing".

Asp is good.In the cold-in the spring, it happens to bite - it is large, near the bottom and on uncharacteristic baits-for example, jigs and deep-growing wobblers, by the way,it sticks out of the mouth in the photo, they are caught together with pikes and walleye, as bycatch..Gennadich question: did no one run on the ground or on tree trunks?or did you not pay attention to such objects?

Naturally, I watched it. It's cold, around +7 in the afternoon. at night +3-4, overcast, so there was no one to run.
On the last night, it warmed up and flew a little, and some caterpillar crawled into the light (I took it for breeding)
Always trying to burrow into the ground

But we planned to go on April 7, I think that everything would have been much better.
About fishing
1. trophy asp, the so-called local and managed to catch this for the second time. but go for 1100 km. one way trip for one trophy fish is expensive (3 cars)
2 The expedition consists of 8 people.
3 Are we eating too much?
4 Everything is known in comparison ( someone catches okushkov, and someone catches bigger fish, and if you have not been fishing in the Astrakhan region during the normal biting season, then I do not consider it appropriate to discuss this further)

The season is open. The first beetle of 2016 from the family Staphylinidae.

Olophrum fuscum (Gravenhorst, 1806)
Nekouzsky district, Yaroslavl region, Russia. Borok, the shore of the Rybinsk reservoir, in the snow, 29.03.2016 (1♂) D. Pavlov and O. Kutuzova leg.

It is found mainly on sedge-grass, reed and reed beds, less often in moss swamps, along the banks of stagnant reservoirs or weakly flowing forest rivers in dry grass, litter, mosses, usually near water. Activity, as in many Omaliinae, is autumn-spring. In late November and late March, during thaws, beetles were sometimes observed in the snow. Wintering in dry reed leaves was recorded (Semenov, 2009).

Literature:

Semenov V. B. Staphylinids of the subfamilies Micropeplinae, Proteininae, and Omaliinae (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) Moscow region. Eversmannia. Entomological research in Russia and neighboring regions. Vol. 17-18. 15. VI. 2009: 18-26.

...

Two days later, two more species were caught. On a broken aspen trunk under the bark with tinder infestation (Fomes fomentarius) and destruction of wood in the komel area by the type of brown and white rot, in addition, also with the anthill Lasius niger (Linnaeus, 1758).

1. Phosphuga atrata (Linnaeus, 1758) (Silphidae) - 1 specimen.
2. Cyphon pubescens (Fabricius, 1792) - 1♂

Russia: Yaroslavl region, Nekouzsky district, pos. Borok, broken aspen trunk, decomposition by the type of brown and white rot, under the bark, 31.03.2016 A. S. Sazhnev leg.

The second species is probably found at the wintering ground. The species is amphibious, the larvae are aquatic and feed on detritus. For adults, some xylotrophic fungi were found on old fruit bodies (Krasutsky, 2005). In the literature, saprophagia and facultative mycetosaprophagia are indicated as the type of nutrition for adults (Krasutsky, 2005).

I'll probably write it too.

On Tuesday, I opened the season in Saratov.
The weather is sunny, +10
As soon as I saw it, I immediately wanted to go to the forest. There is no snow in our forest anymore, and in some places it is completely dry. Green grass is breaking through here and there, and goose onions are already blooming. Spring is very early this year. He caught a rare staf, Lobrathium multipunctum (Gravenhorst, 1802), and an even more common one, Astenus immaculatus Stephens, 1833, in the litter under a large oak tree. As usual, there are a lot of amar, harpaloos, opatrums running around. Nymphalids and lemongrass fly.

I did it again on Thursday, but I took a sieve with me. I was sifting the turf in a clearing with goose onions. In general, I dreamed of Prisistus, but not fate. Caught the following:
Carabidae:
Dyschiriodes sp. (in a moss-covered hummock)

Staphylinidae:
Tachyporus sp.
pr. Athetini sp.
Philonthus sp.

Byrrhidae:
Lamprobyrrhulus nitidus (Schaller, 1783) - 6 specimens, in a moss-covered hummock (30 pieces could be collected if desired)

Anthicidae:
Anthicidae gen. sp.

Curculionidae:
Omias puberulus Boheman, 1843
Strophosoma (Pelletierius) albosignatum Boheman, 1840
Sitona inops Schönherr, 1832
Cycloderes pilosulus (Herbst, 1795)
Dorytomus longimanus (Forster, 1771) (male, caught on the fly)
Pseudocleonus cinereus (Schrank, 1781)

I was poking around in the rotten trunk of a broken pine tree today, but I didn't find any beetles, but I found a bumblebee's nest with a sleepy female inside at the roots in the dust with the remains of more or less solid wood. The bumblebee proved to be the simplest and one of the most widely distributed in the world Bombus lucorum Linnaeus, 1761.

Material: Russia, Yaroslavl region, pos. Borok, surroundings of Barsky pond, broken pine trunk, brown rot decomposition, basal part of the trunk, in the nest, 3.04.2016 (1♀) A. S. Sazhnev leg.

As a gift, the mouth apparatus of the captured female and part of the hind leg (shin and paw).

On April 3
, Spring is progressing, this afternoon it warmed up to +10, snow remained only in the shady places of the forest, and in the form of rolled ice on forest roads. Actively flying:
- Aglais urticae
-Gonepteryx rhamni
-Polygonia c-album
-Nymphalis xanthomelas
- Nymphalis vaualbum
-Archiearis parthenias Conistra vaccinii was found
on the water surface.

Coleopterists may be interested in the staphylinid beetle Paederus riparius, found on the shore of the lake in the last fresh snow on March 25.

The ants in the tree are camponotus, or C. herculeanus, or C. ligniperda, I can't be more precise, I've never seen them alive myself. These are very cool ants!

I drove today to the area of the Saratov TV Tower.

The weather is excellent, the sun is +12 degrees.

Unlike Engels (Lesnoy) here the forest is quite different (and the soil is more clay than sand, as in Engels). The ground is still wet, the roads are muddy and puddled, and there's some snow in the holes under the trees. But the glades and edges are already quite dry. Goose onion blooms (although some other type, larger and stocky). Andren bees fly in all sizes and shapes. I noticed rust pustules on the goose onion.

From butterflies-fly Archiearis parthenias (which is typical - in a birch grove), Polygonia c-album and some other small nymphalids.

I found an excellent (as it seemed to me) aspen chopper. Aspen is just beginning to bloom. A whole hour passed without a single doritome... just zero! It can't be too late-then there should be maggots in the earrings, but there aren't any. It can't be that early - last week I caught the 1st male. It means that you don't like something, the place is not suitable... Elusive beetles.

I poked around under the rocks and found a small black-bodied bird, Melanimon tibialis (http://www.zin.ru/animalia/coleoptera/rus/meltibkm.htm), and a couple of small staphylinids (tachyporin and aleocharin, more precisely, I have not yet determined). That's the whole catch.

p. s. damn doritomuses, every spring I look for, already turn into an obsession smile.gif

We had a little light yesterday. At first, we stood in a clearing where not even a mosquito flew for half an hour. And the time is already 20.00. The temperature is already +7. Go home or somewhere else-start the thread??? We started a few kilometers to the side, decomposed, turned on, and it's already +4 on the street. But these degrees were enough for the butterflies! A lot of Achlya flavicornis, two Biston strataria and Brachionycha nubeculosa, one Orthosia incerta, Agriopis marginaria and a few micro, in my opinion, fireflies. At 21.30 we rolled up, because we froze ourselves)

Olophrum consimile (Gyllenhal, 1810)

Material: Russia, Yaroslavl region, Nekouzsky district, pos. Borok, near the IBVV RAS hotel, day let, 6.04.2016 (1♀) I. S. Turbanov leg.

Arpedium quadrum (Gravenhorst, 1806)

Material: Russia, Yaroslavl region, Nekouzsky district, pos. Borok, Barsky pond neighborhood, daylight hours, 6.04.2016 (1♂, 2♀♀) I. S. Turbanov leg.

Note. In natural biocenoses, it is found in eutrophic and mesotrophic swamps, in swampy alders and willows, along the banks of rivers, lakes, old trees, in forests of various types (birch, spruce, oak forests, etc.), as well as in fields and meadows. Beetles live in litter, mosses, and coastal sediments. The first warm-up period usually begins and lasts until about mid-May (Semenov, 2009).

Literature:

Semenov V. B. Staphylinids of the subfamilies Micropeplinae, Proteininae, and Omaliinae (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) Moscow region. Eversmannia. Entomological research in Russia and neighboring regions. Issue 17-18, 2009: 18-26.

...

The water beetles also began. Being an entomologist is interesting and fun, especially for others. Yesterday with Ilya Turbanov noticed on the main square Borka in a puddle, right on the asphalt, vertyachek. And so, with all the honest people, where, I must say, there were children and pregnant women, Ilya caught a couple of vertyachek and one floater with his own hands. The adults looked at us incredulously, and one girl rode up on a bicycle and began to mutter busily, saying: "Floaters, floaters, how tired they are..." - well, and also tried to catch beetles. However, the all-seeing eye of the mother stopped this biological principle in the bud, and the parent took the girl away from puddles, floaters and strange men.

And in the afternoon, the guys brought a bigger beetle, he flew to their feet and wanted to die with honor-in a box of Tic Tac.

Total for yesterday we have:

Gyrinus natator Linnaeus, 1758 - 2♀♀
Hydroporus fuscipennis Schaum, 1868 - 1♀

Material: Russia, Yaroslavl region, Nekouzsky district, pos. Borok, main square, puddle on asphalt, hand fishing, 8.04.2016 I. S. Turbanov, A. S. Sazhnev leg.

Colymbetes paykulii Erichson, 1837

Material: Russia, Yaroslavl region, Nekouzsky district, pos. Borok, the outskirts of the village of u der. Grigorovo, day years, 8.04.2016 (1♂) O. R. and A. V. Kutuzov leg.

Beetles, although well-known in the local area, are still pleasant in the spring, still fickle, time. And as a visual part of the program — edeagus Colymbetes paykulii.

In Saratov today it is hot (as for April), +17 degrees!

I decided to take a walk in the woods. Almost immediately on the road, I met a rather ordinary, but still pleasant, Meloe (Eurymeloe) aeneus Tauscher T-shirt, 1812. Harpalus distinguendus Duftschmid, 1812, runs very much, in all colors and tints. In terms of numbers, it can even compete with sand slugs.
Gradually I reached the lakes. Again I looked at the willows and aspens of doritomus, but again I found nothing. I decided to pick at the base of aspen trunks, but everywhere there are solid anthills of yellow lasius (Lasius flavus) along with their yellow aphids. In one of the anthills, I took the Staphylococcus Drusilla canaliculata F. On my way back, I found a fresh litter with several common Aphodius distinctus and 3 Aleochara (Coprochara) bipustulata. Finally, on a goose bow, I took a bog Cyphon sp. I had a good walk!

Catch photos. Soryan for the quality-shot with a soap dish.
