Elez, tell us the point for osmoderma, if this is the Moscow region. If you don't like it, you don't have to write anything. Better in PM.

On the weekend I was at Omar's dacha together with the Cat Behemoth and his girlfriend. I'll write you more details tomorrow, and in short-on butterflies: not very much (gooseberry moth, milkweed hawkmoth, bindweed scoops and a lot of micra for the cat behemoth), on beetles: First Vlad, and then a Lobster on the generator in the field where they used to extract sand caught a horse (a small brown striped one), which then whether zero, or the first category in the CC of the Moscow region, plus some small barbel at night and another on a hydrangea right in the country. I think Romka will give the exact names of the beetles.

You've taken pictures of this madness!

27.07.2009 13:17, Sergey Didenko

You've taken pictures of this madness!

I'll try to throw it off in the evening, but I don't have any photos of the catch (as well as the catch itself, which I forgot from you smile.gif). But I will post photos of individual comrades who have thoroughly rested from England for sure! Write down what kind of beetles we caught.

In general, we got there at 11 o'clock on Friday evening and immediately turned on the porch lamp. Since we bought beer on the way, we immediately started drinking it. When we bought - it seemed a lot - a 5-liter barrel of paulaner, 4 bottles of ale Mason took for himself, I supported the domestic manufacturer with 4 bottles of Russky, and sdi bought several cans of dark krushovitsa and Stella Artois also five cans. The lady was drinking something nasty. When it started to fly, the beer began to run out quickly. From the beetles managed to get a barbel Leiopus, the rest of the beetles lepidopterologists completely scared away. By the way, Sergey got it. Closer to 3, the lamp was turned off and they decided to drink brandy. They finished him off and started drinking whiskey, but the mason fell asleep right on the table and couldn't drink any more.

The next day, fishing started right in the garden. I caught Galeruca pomonae, and Sergey took Chlorophorus herbsti for the Hippo. Having somehow gathered the strength that we need, we decided to move into the forest. While the butterflies were waving their nets, I picked up Cryptocephalus octacosmos - it seems that no one has collected it in the region since the 19th century. At least there weren't any fresh specimens in the museum, and I didn't catch any of my few amateur friends either. If this is not the case, please respond! At night, we decided to try out my generator in battle. We found a vacant lot where a bulldozer was recently used to dig up sand. The generator was working properly, but at first there were a wild number of mosquitoes and nothing else. Closer to 12, scales and beetles flew. I traditionally picked up all sorts of carbides - I think I got a couple of Harpalus hirtipes. And then The Hippopotamus Said: "Look, Cicindela arenaria!" It was so strange that I couldn't believe my eyes at first. But this was it. Mason generously gave the copy to me. I found the next arenaria about 15 minutes later and gave it to the Hippo in turn. But the third Sergey stupidly missedmad.gif, fearing that it would bite him! There were also a few difficult little things that I will now sit down to lay out and at least figure out a little what it is. Thus, the trip was a success for me personally. Sergey will tell you more about butterflies.

I will only be documenting Omar's story.
So, we came to him at about 10 pm and were very happy with his plot and dacha, everything is super!

We turned on the lamp and began to relax after the traffic jams. The butterfly, like the beetle, almost did not fly, which I remember I wrote earlier. In general, the fishing looked like this
25072009438_1.jpg
then so
25072009439_1.jpg
then so

like that

and finally, like this.

By the way, Kotbegemot still took a full bag of Mikra. The next day, we managed to wake him up at 15.00. At 17.30 we went to see what is found in the area from the daytime. The only thing I took for myself was a thick-headed Carcharodus alceae.
In the evening, we went to the field to feed mosquitoes and catch them on the generator.
The place at dusk looked like this
25072009448_1.jpg
and at night so.26072009452_1.jpg
What was caught there, Romka has already written.
The next morning I went to my father's dacha, where at night the lamp was full of platitudes.

SDI Report-TO GOLD!!!
I remember being in Trappers, too. It's really, really cozy. Roman is a hospitable host, and the dacha is a sweet treat!
kotbegemot is very tired, probably after night fishing.
Just two questions, please?
1. Were there any garlic girls this time?
2. Where's the vodka?

Of the green scoops, there were two Earias clorana. There is also one Hecatera dysodea caught in the country (I may be mistaken, the catch was left at the Lobster in the country). There were moths of Lythria and Phibalapteryx virgata in the field where they caught rare horses.
And they really didn't drink vodka. The beer in the photo was painted with cognac and whiskey.

Today with lepidopterologist we were in Tugolesye (Shatursky district). The purpose of the trip was caterpillars of Anarta myrtilli, of which I found only 2 pieces. I also took the tracks of Hadena sp. A lot of Plebeius idas and fresh Colias myrmidone flew. Also, in the vicinity of the platform, males of Lymantria monacha, all dark forms, were very often found on tree trunks and lampposts. I also found 2 copies of Upis ceramboides, on pillars near the platform, it's not clear what they needed there.

Total:
Hesperidae:
Hesperia comma

Arctiidae:
Setina irrorella

Geometridae:
Epirrhoe alternata
Idaea serpentata
Scotopteryx chenopodiata
Scotopteryx moeniata

Lymantriidae:
Lymantria monacha, the dark female

Noctuidae:
Acronicta rumicis
Lacanobia contigua
Anarta myrtilli, caterpillars
Hadena sp. tracks

Zygaenidae:
Zygaena minos, many, but all broken

Crambidae:

They needed that white paint that was smeared on the lower part of these pillars.

If the question is for me, I doubt that they ate paint. But I remember a story from some book for schoolchildren on entomology, where the author recalls how he went out with a sketchbook in nature and could not draw anything because of the beetles of the same species, which clung to the canvas in a cloud on zinc whitewash.
Last fall, two friends and I noticed dozens of beetles depicted above on the route along the railway from Tugolesye station to the east. The beetles were sitting on poles on the lower white-painted part.

By the way, it is much more fun to spread out under beer than dry.
The main thing is not to overdo it with the dosage, so that the pins do not start to split smile.gif

Hello everyone Today I returned from the village (Ruzsky district). Lenkovo). I've been there since August 5. There are a lot of admirals, hives, io and all sorts of other stuff during the day. Caught one mourner, something they are generally not enough. It's very cold at night (+8), a terrible fog and a full moon, so bright that you can see everything without a flashlight. But something still came to light. I want to mention Calyptra thalictri, caught a fresh male and female. I also found the caterpillar Orgyia antiqua, which immediately began to pupate, apparently the female wakes up.

Nymphalidae:
Nymphalis antiopa

Geometridae:
Eupithecia centaureata
Epirrhoe tristata
Cyclophora albipunctata

Lymantriidae:
Orgyia antiqua, caterpillar
of Euroctis similis

Noctuidae:
Calyptra thalictri
Catocala nupta
Hecatera bicolorata
Tholera cespitis
Tholera decimalis
Xestia sexstrigata
Xestia sp.
Noctua pronuba
Euxoa nigricans
Ipimorpha retusa

In connection with the termination of glitches (for how long) of the forum, I make a very belated statement. I found out here about my bug catch in the south of the Moscow Region (late July and early August). Now I see that T. Bad Den was absolutely right in identifying the first two larvae (they were from Kashira district) like Protaetia lugubris. At least, these larvae calmly lie on their backs in a straight line. But the rest of the larval good found in the Serpukhov district the following days and then a week later (and the day before yesterday also in the Chekhov district, also together with the lugubris imago) behaves differently, and has a thicker and more circular cross-section. Unlike the first two larvae from the Kashirsky district, all the others (except for difficult to distinguish small things) are C-shaped, and it is almost impossible to straighten them, they cannot lie on their backs, and they stand with a rocker arm, leaning on the muzzle and on the ass, and bent ones are more often removed on a smooth surface..

But from pupae taken in the Serpukhov district, solid lugubris are derived. The question remains, what kind of strange symbiosis is this, when in one mass of shit (there is almost no wood dust there), pupae of bronzes are found, and imagos are completely osmoderms. At the same time, there are no pupae (or even remnants) of osmoderms at all, there are only fragments of last year's imagos. (By the way, there were no fragments of the Bronzovka imago). And whose larvae, time will tell, as long as they are more similar to osmoderm (it is the form), and I can't figure out the other differences.

Lugubris (imago) has been reliably recorded in Filevsky Park in Moscow this summer.

In any case, there are no questions with the first two larvae (from the Kashirsky district), I repeat once again that the definition proposed for them by T. Bad Den was absolutely correct. It also applies to pupae from the Serpukhov district, from which many adult bronzes have already emerged. Some of my colleagues and I were initially baffled by the subsequent findings and, consequently, the photos, which, in addition to the mysterious larvae, also contained obvious osmoderm imagos.

In connection with my personal contacts with some of my friends on the forum, I will add that I did not feel any stench from any individual of the osmoderm imago (with almost a dozen and a half meetings), and I myself am known among my friends as a good sniffer. The only thing that smelled was imago's feces, which smelled just like any bronzer's. The beetle begins to stink only in the collection, and even then not from the first day (despite normal drying and the absence of obvious causes of rotting), but somewhere a week after death, and it stinks of ordinary rotten stuff. Where did the original fruit, all colorfully described, stink of my specimens osmoderm-I do not know.

In the Chekhov district, by the way, I met the day before yesterday 1 male N. polychloros, which in recent years has completely replaced xanthomelas in the spring, and it was always pleasant to meet polychloros in the summer and earlier. True, the specimen was skinned, though more or less fresh in scales.

Due to the inability to drop the material during the server setup period, I'm doing it now. A few photos from the tour in the vicinity of Platf. Velyaminovo Paveletskaya railway station of July 29, 2009 There is an oak grove of a very large (and even more so for the Ministry of Defense) area, which I found it necessary to explore, and I have not heard of it being visited by colleagues.

There are plenty of old trees there (although they are a minority), but the hollows are too tight. Even the droppings of any lamelliferous man were never found in the oak grove. Under the bark of dead oaks, small ground beetles and scoops hide, as I understand it, pyramidea (they are also, in my opinion, filmed in the Serpukhov district days later, where they are more common), a male prionus sits on the trunk of an oak (the same one was shot later in the Serpukhov district, where it is more common). 1 copy was also taken under the bark of a dead oak tree. Carabus coriaceus (who wants to laugh, can see a very informative photo of this beetle on the Internet at: http://www.theanimalworld.ru/insect/zhuzhe...grenevaja.html).

The same litter that I found together with larvae (sp.?), pupae of lugubris and imago eremita in the Serpukhov district (and together with lugubris larvae, by the way, in the Kashirsky district) was found in Velyaminovo outside the oak grove, generally on the other side of the railway, almost in the village and even then the oak was long dead and dry, and the droppings were all old and dry.

However, it is possible that in other years this oak grove will be of use, it looks promising, just for the most part the oaks are not old enough yet. To put an end to this point, in my opinion, is not worth it.

Interestingly, a female poplar glassfly kept trying to sit on an aspen tree (near the pond), quite decent; in my opinion, it was a little late. Departures were usually celebrated in the twenties of June, and then after a few days the butterflies stopped meeting.

And this is for the Serpukhov district, July 31-August 3, 2009. Prioksko-Terrasny Nature Reserve and its surroundings.

In the image IMG_4905a.jpg -an unfortunate lugubris, accidentally damaged (see elytra) when removed from the trunk. It can be seen that in an adult prematurely removed from the cover (which the larva makes from its own shit), it is the elytra that has not yet acquired a normal color (and at the same time is still extremely soft).

- And isn't it every year in the PTZ that an Ethiopian woman has years?
At least I met her in a row in 2006 and 2007. And not just me.

That's right. But I was referring, of course, not to any age, but to the years of the overwhelming majority (which, apparently, is still in the pre-imaginal stage in the interim years), and this does not happen every year even in the PTZ. In any year, you can meet a butterfly, and I do, but in large numbers (more than a dozen copies in the next review)-after all, once every two years, and this year is just like that. I have been observing these fluctuations in the Ethiopian population there for decades, and it is not difficult to track them. But, I repeat, there may be exceptions to any such norm. For example, if the year of harvest according to the Ethiopian plan turns out to be a failure in terms of weather. Or if, on the contrary, due to the long warm seasons, the development of an increasing number of individuals begins to fit into one year (and others will not all survive to the "imaginal" season due to overheating or drying out at the end of the previous one); of course, an error will accumulate, which one fine year will give an untimely advantage. So, of course, schedule failures are also possible, I won't deny it, but the fact that years of poor harvest (almost) alternate with fruitful ones is also the norm there. Such fluctuations can hardly be explained by completely discarding the version of the two-year harvesting cycle for our places and based only on the weather, food supply and statistics.

By the way, you can also notice similar fluctuations in the idea if you look closely (if possible, with adjustments for weather and other interference) over a number of years to the number in each given year. Although it is much more noticeable in Ethiopia.
