Photo report on a trip to Tugolesye in the Shatursky district of the Moscow Region on 18.08.09.
Participants: lepidopterolog, Zhuk, Morozzz
The goal was not so much collecting butterflies as caterpillars and just exploring the situation.
From Kazansky to the Tugolesye platform, the train takes about 2.5 hours and arrives at the destination almost empty. In our car there were only three of us and two more residents of the Shatursky district who were sleeping soundly.
Immediately, the platform comes across Colias myrmidone in considerable quantities and mediocre quality, somewhat less often-Colias hyale and Pontia edusa. Many Gonepteryx rhamni, Aglais urticae, in some places-Vanessa atalanta, Cynthia cardui, Argynnis niobe, Inachis io. Common, but battered Issoria lathonia and Clossiana dia.
From raznoustykh - Orgyia sp. (flew too fast, didn't give up)
The main attention was paid to collecting caterpillars of scoops Anarta myrtilli on heather, Calophasia lunula on flax and Cucullia sp. on wormwood and other plants.
Periodically arranged breaks-snacks.
Already in front of the platform, right on the tracks, Lepidopterolog suddenly spotted a viper right under his feet. While trying to make a good shot, the snake with***zero))), sorry, crawled inside the hollow stick net lepidopterologist. Using tweezers by the tail, the reptile was carefully pulled out of the trap, worked as a model, and crawled away.
Result: collected caterpillars of Anarta myrtilli, Cucullia artemisiae, C. asteris, Calophasia lunula, Geometridae 2 sp. plus a few funny pictures, which:
001. beetle and lepidopterist on the background of sleeping cherustinets
002. caterpillar Acronicta tridens
003. beetle and lepidopterologist with the coveted syroezhka at a rest
stop 004. beetle, frost, lepidopterologist
005. caterpillar Geometridae sp. and Anarta myrtilli
006. caterpillar Cucullia artemisiae
007. caterpillar Calophasia lunula
008-011. comic sketches with the viper Vipera berus
012. we are on our way back

11.08 was in the vicinity of Nerskaya square (forest nursery)...there were a lot of fairly fresh myrmidons flying around...I put together a good series.Several white alba females were caught.

Here are the pictures

This butterfly aroused interest..at first, when I caught it, I took it for a male myrmidon, but when I analyzed the material, I still identified it as Colias crocea, by the way, how often does this species occur in the MO?

Can I wear underwear? It looks like crocea!

19.08.2009 16:29, Vlad Proklov

By the way, when I left, I saw an orange yolk at the junction of the MKAD and Domodedovo highway. Since Myrmidon is not a very mobile species, I suspect that it was crocea. Perhaps, in the center of ECH this year, the local brood was a success? Who else in the Moscow region caught them this year?

I'll add a little story about fishing, although initially I wasn't going to catch
it.Everything is done for the best... So it is today. After getting even with my work affairs, I was very happy with this arrangement of things, and I was so proud that I took a completely wrong bus and left for God knows where, being more than 4 km away. from the desired location. I will not hide the fact that the area turned out to be very pretty: overgrown wastelands and ponds, trees with yellow and green leaves, standing in anticipation of autumn. Everything made for a good walk, especially since I wanted to take a walk in the morning. Slowly returning home, I remembered a similar story when I was studying in the first year of the Institute, I dozed off on the bus and passed my stop and also went to hell (do not think badly: I was driving sober, just a little tired). Yeah... It's both a laugh and a sin. The walk was also successful in the entomological sense: in a roadside puddle, I came across a large black water-lover of the genus Hydrophilus, which is quite rare, but there were no beetles in the reservoirs themselves.

Did you like it? If anyone is interested: welcome to my blog. There are other stories about beetle hunting trips and more...

To posts #3557 and 3580: The photo is indeed a male Colias croceus=crocea. The species is not often found in the Metropolitan Area. True, on August 12 of this year, I scored one exactly the same copy in general in 9 km. from MKAD. So-as the butterfly is a migrant, it is possible to meet(I saw some orange yolks several times, but they did not land and flew very quickly-I could not catch them). I attach a photo of my copy.

It is regularly found in the area from Orekhovo-Zuyevo to Kirzhach along the railway line to Alexandrov. In Kirzhach there is (was?) stable population near the airfield.

This one we have in Poltevo (where the forest burned in 2002) Previously (before the fire) there is also found Proserpinus proserpina (twice) and Rhyparia purpurata. In general, the place is quite interesting even now.

Oh, I also took fraxinushka in Bullfinches on the 29th! True, there is no lower right half-wing. weep.gif
And on the 28th, I probably missed her - damn, like a little sparrow, she flew up to the lamp, then abruptly back, I didn't even have time to blink, sat down on an apple tree, I went to her, well, she fluttered up. What a damn helicopter!

Catocala fraxini arrived at my apartment at 01: 30, when I was ready to go to bed. After a rather sluggish summer compared to July (one scoop in 15 min) I also took it for a bird at first. Fortunately, she sat down on the ground, though in a shaded place. It felt great. This is the first time I've encountered this species...

August 30, 2009, Moscow region, Serpukhov district, vicinity of PTZ. What is, is. The freshest male crocea flew by, but it was not possible to catch up. The left elytra of Osmoderma eremita was found in the dust of one of the oaks among lamelliferous droppings.

DRL fishing, Odintsovo district, near the village of Pestovo. The moon shines so that you can read, at a distance of 200 meters from the lamp, the shadows are equally clear.
I would have caught a lot less, but for the first time I hung a lamp on a fence, covering everything around by 180 degrees, and not by 30, as before.
In general, the end of August is some kind, and not September, not even celsia...

September 10, 2009, Moscow Region, Serpukhov district, river floodplain. Oki along the southern border of the PTZ. Also noted among the mace-moustaches are the supermetal (3rd generation) dispar (male) and levana. This is not the first time that I have noticed the latter in those parts as the 3rd generation; the color in all cases absolutely corresponds to the color of the 2nd generation. One of the scoops on the flight is gamma (?) and fraxini (very large). Apart from these two, there are no mixed sawyers at all. Lemonids - either a bad harvest year, or they haven't woken up yet. So far, not a single meeting, although both species have been recorded there before. Not marked very common in these places in recent years, the 2nd generation ilia (with which, as I read here, others were lucky). In general, the set of diurnal birds is common: napi, rapae, edusa, hyale, rhamni (no females were found), urticae, io, atalanta, cardui, aglaja, lathonia, levana, superspecific idas (? - see photo), superspecific argiades (which is located in Moscow in the Setun floodplain, once used in the 3rd for the second year I don't see a single one), icarus, virgaureae (only females), phlaeas, dispar (male).

And golubyanka-argyrognomon of course.

12.09.2009 16:29, гундоров

Guys, what is the difference between argus,argyrognomon,idas-males,females in detail by morphological characteristics?

12.09.2009 16:32, гундоров

Please note-this is not a trivial question.Try to distinguish these three types and justify them.

12.09.2009 17:11, RippeR

well argus differs very simply! Except, of course, for some Asian subspecies..
But idas and argyrognomon I think it is necessary only on the genitals, as the signs of imzenchivy.. 7?

13.09.2009 14:02, гундоров

Everything is right.Visually, only the male P. argus can be distinguished-a wide dark blue border along the edge of the wings. The rest and females of the three species can be found on the genitals, but it is easier to find the claw on the front paw-the claw is long.He was the first to propose this system for determining Kites. There is an article by him in the Novosibirsk collection.

13.09.2009 16:02, Svyatoslav Knyazev

Idas and argyrognomon also differ visually. Idas is larger than argyrognomon, the color of the upper side of the wings is more purple (in argyrognomon blue), the veins on the hind wings are pollinated with black almost along the entire length (in argyrognomon they are usually not pollinated at all), the underside of the wings of idas is light coffee color (in argyrognomon ash-gray), a dark border along the edge of the wings in idas much wider, about 2 times that of the argyrognomon, but also noticeably narrower than that of the argus (the argyrognomon is very narrow).
In principle, these traits are used to determine argyrognomon/idas males with a very high degree of confidence. Tested on personal experience.

13.09.2009 17:21, RippeR

After I saw a large series of okoemas that looked like pure argyrogshnomonas, which turned out to be idas by their genitals, I stopped trusting the appearance of argyrognomon and idas.
and the female argus is also very easy to determine )
