Hello everyone.
Another couple of successfully completed experiments on removing scales.
Saturnia pavonia the male was hatched today from a pupa kindly presented at the congress by Anatoly Marusov (Zhuk).






Bucculatrix thoracella also today, from caterpillars collected during landing
from lime trees in Zhukovsky City Park 4.10.2012

It is interesting to see how quickly and deftly the caterpillar weaves its cocoon.

Yes-winter, winter...Nature itself has provided most collectors living in the palearctic climate zone with a temporary lull for work related to the processing of material.There are still about 2.5 months left for mattress bulkheads,and then you can go to the fields and forests, open the 2013 season in the Moscow region!!!

Great! I have these bastards were also bred, but I never caught them alive, always only found dead ones at the bottom of the jar )))

A new species for the 8th region (I found it back in 2008 in Zhukovsky Park), although there are generally EVERYWHERE, judging by the unmistakable mines on rosaceae (even American ones) and birch.

A brood female L. pomonaria (found on bird cherry) has appeared today. Although all the caterpillars were pilosarii and not a single probable pomonarii... although I might not have paid attention, there were a lot of them (although most of them were infected).

Meanwhile, the long-awaited spring is coming to the Moscow region... Today, I formally opened the season for myself, having found Nymphalis xanthomelas waking up on a tree trunk early in the morning in Moscow after yesterday's thaw.

Finally lit up my DRL and started the season
Zvenigorod neighborhood, Odintsovo district.

Brachionycha nubeculosa was the leader in terms of number, and there were quite a few of them. Behind them, of course, are Eupsilia transversa and Orthosia gothica - where without them. Several Orthosia munda, Orthosia populeti, Achlya flavicornis and Lycia hirtaria. Finally caught my first Orthosia cerasi - only one was, unfortunately. We flew in one at a time: Orthosia cruda, Orthosia incerta, Lithophane consocia, Lithophane socia, Cleora cinctaria, Lycia pomonaria, Biston strataria.
