Wow, cool your reports!!! in a good time))

And I'll add it here on business: so rather read who goes to those parts,
.. sorry that not one comment of emotions)))
I received a letter, I think it is possible to voice it, for the good of the cause.

I work in the Laboratory of Ecology of Invasions of the Institute of Ecology and Evolution. Severtsov. I deal with alien beetle species.

I am currently conducting research on breeding sites of the harmony changeable ladybug (Harmonia axyridis) in the Caucasus and European Russia. This year, this ladybug is especially plentiful in the Sochi area, but when it appeared there is not known. Have you ever seen this cow near the village of Estosadok or anywhere else?

I will add a little Abkhazia after Dima. Stopped by a little later, and left too.
A joint expedition with I. Solodovnikov, his wife Svetlana and N. Pichugin.
Arrived in Tuapse on 01.05., on the second scheduled meeting with the rest of the expedition members.
Waiting near the Tuapse port.

DSC03007.JPG
After the meeting, we spent the whole day playing series along the coast. At night we went to the border with Abkhazia. I was very surprised for the better by the new checkpoint on the border, however, only from the Russian side. A one-time transport pass in 4-5 rows both in the direction of Abkhazia and back. It took 15 minutes to get through Russian customs, but unfortunately, there were no changes on the Abkhazian side. The point is still the same and on the way back I had to spend an hour and a half or two before I got to the Russian Customs. But it only happened on May 10, and the events were just beginning...
So, on May 3, we started working in Abkhazia. Unfortunately, on the first day of setting up the traps, I had a great cold - I was blown out in the car, so on the further trip I was mostly a driver and a transport guard.
I took some photos of the views and surroundings near the parking lots.

There is one problem - ticks. Small ones, up to 1.5 mm in size, were usually found either at the suction stage or after the fact. You need to take repellents with you. Both for leather and clothing.

On the 17th, the "Comet" reached Batumi. Then, by car, to the point of the walking route. From pleasant memories-amazing beetles, snickers with tea, aboriginal hospitality, real chacha, homemade cheese, sun and warm sea near Batumi. From the not-so-imperceptibly devouring flies-simulidae, dropping a height of 1000 meters in the incessant rain. In general, a lot of impressions and a buzz from communicating with the nature of the Caucasus mountains.

Carabus (Neoplectes) mellyi martviliensis was one of the targets of the expedition. The largest beetle was surprisingly fast and didn't want to pose. I had to hold him back a little.

yndafleusy everywhere and a bunch, mostly on beeches, on dry ones under the bark and on all sorts of things at night-you can collect a bunch
of armeniacusy came across in different places, the first 2 came across on a small log lying alone near the stream, the rest under the bark and at night on trees. In general, these creatures love wet bedding and subcortical places, if you attack well, you can find several dozen at once, if you are very lucky.

Oh! Great report! Especially weevils are good, I see Baseboards, Trachodes, Acalles, cool Otiorhynchus and funny Baris

thank you! This is not all skirting boards and otiorinhi, those that are larger on another mattress. There were enough cool elephants. Especially proper otiorinkhi with 3 mm long and small barisy

A short report on the final trip to Abkhazia to collect traps.
On July 2, we met with I. Solodovnikov in Goryachy Klyuch.
The plan is to remove about 1,800 traps in more than 30 locations on the coast of the Krasnodar Territory and Abkhazia in 5 days. I will say right away: we managed to cope with the plan, but what an effort it cost us and the car....
So: morning fog on Pskhu

A few photos waiting for a partner from the removal of traps. They did not risk leaving the car, remembering the events of 2011. Then we were "surrounded" right under the nose on the coast.

Hello
In two weeks I will go to the Caucasus. I will be located 50 km from Maikop and not far from Gelendzhik by the sea. I plan to catch interesting specimens: first of all, beetles and butterflies, as well as other insects if possible.

Please advise what traps to set. What are the most interesting representatives I can meet and catch?

I have already prepared a net, earth traps (beer glasses, spatula), and collection containers.

1) What else can be used efficiently and conveniently?
2) Is it possible to meet a deer beetle there?!! how can I find it there?!!
3) Is it possible to meet solpuga there? How to catch it and where?
4) Should I try tree traps? And which ones?

Hello Friends!
A short report on a trip to South Ossetia at the end of July. The trip was generally successful, we were not lucky with the weather, it was raining and foggy almost all the time, and given the average altitude of 3000 meters, it was cold, so we flew with butterflies...
The situation is calm, get from Vladikavkaz via TransCam. The border is like at the entrance to Abkhazia, the purpose of the visit is not to catch insects, and everything is fine. On the way back, however, there was an interrogation by the FSB officer, but we also left for Russia without any problems.

What's with the black spots on your clothes? Ethiopian or melancholic?

I managed to catch a little bit below (2000-2100m), banal Euphydryas, Melithaea, Coenonympha. Also on this day on the rise (above 2500) flew C. aurorina, E. iduna, golubyanka-agrodietusy, thought as we reach, catch, but the weather made adjustments... Erebii - I think Ethiopians.

For 2500 aurorina??? Theoretically possible, if the southern slope with tragacarps. Idun would like to see it. I have vague doubts...and agrodietuses (?) confused.gif
Could you ask for a list of finds with points or a photo of your fees? Yuri E. Komarov has recently been working in South Ossetia. Collects butterflies, but he is not a professional and rarities, unfortunately, often misses.

It's beautiful!!!!

14.02.2014 15:13, Valentinus

The Talysh Mountains are located in the very south of Azerbaijan. These are the foothills of the Iranian Highlands with the corresponding flora and fauna. umnik.gif
I'll try to show a little bit of the beauty of these places. I've been there several times at different times. I'll start with the second visit, when I already had a photo camera.
First days of May 2011.
Beginning of the Zuwand arid basin. 1300-1500 m.

Hi forumchanam.
Today in Stavropol, the air temperature rose to +16.
In the morning, the first scoops flew under the streetlights.
Everything is melting, but there is still snow in the garden. All the cold weather fed the birds with seeds.
DSC03318.JPG
And yesterday the falcon arrived. I did see it, but I didn't have time to take a picture of it.
And here is the place of his meal.... Unfortunately for some birds, it does not feed on seeds...
