Thanks for the help.

Thank you. I'll know.

such a question. if I find a clutch on a leaf of a food plant, can I pluck the leaf with the clutch and put it in a cage while waiting for the caterpillars to hatch ? that is, if the leaf wilts or dries up, the eggs will not die or the clutch is alive only while the leaf is fresh ? thank you in advance.

The clutch will not die, but when the larvae come out in some species, I think there may be a large waste until they get to the fresh one, which prevents cutting the branch along with the leaf and putting it in water.

If the Sudak region, then I think that Ethmia candidella, a common species of steppes and foothills. This year there are especially many caterpillars.

Good evening, today I found this caterpillar,I'm in Orel. if I'm not mistaken, this is a scoop of Polia nebulosa. if you're wrong, please correct me. I found it under the bark of a dry apple tree trunk. attention question: what to feed this creature, there is no foliage yet, and the caterpillar is very active. also, where does it pupate, in the soil or in the leaves on a branch ?
P.S. I apologize in advance for the quality of the photo. ))

Scoops usually pupate in the soil.
Feed: give her all the different greens you can find. She will choose for herself.
You can also give me a branch of an apple tree with buds. Caterpillars also eat buds very well. You don't have to wait for the leaves. smile.gif

Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod region. Under the bark of an oak (or pine) tree. April.
I'm sorry I didn't take it. But it's probably not easy with them.
1 - Length about 16 mm. Cucujus cinnaberinus?
2 - Length about 16 mm.?

1. Most likely yes
2. Boros schneideri
Take a container with a flat bottom (I have a plastic box from under some sweets), pour the substrate in which the larvae live (any crap between the bark and wood) in an even layer of 3-10 mm, release the larvae, cover with a flat piece of bark, periodically moisten (I usually once in 4-7 days when I just remember urine in the water, an additional piece of bark, not the one that the larvae are covered with, and I put it in a container), wait, if you are lucky, then after a while beetles will appear.

Help to deal with the larvae of barbels, maybe there are specialists. The fact is that when identifying the larvae of barbels of R. Monochamus, which came to us from Belarus, according to the identifier Tatarinova, Nikitsky et al. Barbels, or woodcutters of the fauna of the European north-east of Russia (2007), we come to M. urussovi (focusing on the presence of white irregular dots devoid of sclerotization on the pronotum), while when determining by Mamaev (1972), Ilyinsky (1962), Plavilshchikov (1958), we come to M. urussovi. galloprovincialis (focusing on the very large (long and wide) spiracles of the mid-thorax).
The appearance of calluses of sternites and tergites is similar to that of M. galloprovincialis, but all the tubercles of calluses are covered with microscopic spines, which is a diagnostic feature of M. urussovi according to Tatarinova. Help us figure out which attributes should be preferred for identification.
