I'm afraid the Collector will not understand how the window trap works very well from this picture. How many times have we advised you, our dear Collector, to read more? You can find almost everything on the Internet. Especially forumchane you links give. And what about you? They skimmed the text with their eyes. I wrote - freshly cut trees! What does the crown have to do with it? How do you see it? Sawed logs and hung them on the trees? Catch the beetle big and small.
In a nutshell. Cut down a tree of the desired breed. On the trunk, fix the glass under which the container is installed under the retainer. Beetles fly to the smell, hitting the glass fall into the container. All you have to do is knock down the right tree in the right place and check the trap as you wish. For example, once a week.
This is brief. Everything is available on the Internet. Black Coleopter can tell you all the details and nuances in detail.

I didn't mean to chew it and put it in his mouth. His own teeth should still be sharp: the right direction is set - let him rummage through the network.

I usually wear slates, so I can't answer them. I think the pigeon girls in the photo were first attracted to the color of their sneakers. Flew up, felt the smell... smile.gifIn general, going to the pigeon run, buy blue shoes, and do not wash for a long time!

12.02.2012 16:55, Wild Yuri

You can also accidentally spill beer on them... beer.gif

I prefer tarpaulin boots or berets. All the same, branches, anthills, etc. You can injure your feet. wink.gif

Dear forumchane, your thoughts : how about putting a fine grid in the soil trap? I used a mosquito net, a beekeeping mask, but a metal one that bends easily is better. I place this mesh in a vessel with bait, at the level of the middle of the vessel, attach the mesh to the edges of the vessel and the" walls " of the mesh are also fixed so that they are vertical (so it is better to use metal).
As a result: the bait is not touched, the insects are clean and dry, you do not need to get the vessel out of the ground - it is enough to detach the net (except to change the bait). There is a risk of magpies/crows pulling the net off, but I didn't have this.

PS: I do not promote anything, I do not try to prove my case, I do not pour oil into the fire of swearing and flooding, but only offer my ideas.

In glasses with stale fish came Anoplotrupes stercorosus, Calosoma inquisitor, dead eaters, carabus.

I can imagine what this is all about. How much trap volume do you offer?

04.07.2012 13:35, Wave Storm

I made a" bait " for butterflies: bananas + water + sugar + yeast, held it for almost 3 days and, apparently, overexposed it, because none of the insects fly on it.
My question is: is kvass suitable for nymphalids? And sour wine with sugar?

05.07.2012 15:34, Геннадий Шембергер

Dry white wine+banana+yeast(not powdered).

Recently I tried a new trap, it takes some time to install: I cut out a piece of earth with a shovel, I need grass on the ground so that the" cover "of the trap does not crumble, I dig a hole deep into the container that I will bury, the container is wide, like an iron basin, I bury the basin, put a large grid on top, cover it with an earthen" lid", 1.5-3cm thick, I put fresh manure on top, actually everything! The next day in the basin: staffs (little), a lot of aphodia, small dung plants, took only Aphodius Fossor. And this is seven kilometers from grazing, two from the fields, a kilometer from the forest, and if you put it "in nature".

Please note: specialists!
Tell me, is there a chance that during the day the bait will fly moths, in particular tapeworms? And in your experience, which biotopes are most closely associated with them?
I have the same questions about hawkmoth.
What is the best way to pour into the stain?
Sincerely yours, Arud.

I have the same questions about hawkmoth.

During the day, tapeworms are caught in the forest on trees, when they overflow startled. they fly to the bait at night. the biotope depends on the territory of which country you are located and in which part of it. hawks, with rare exceptions, do not fly to the bait. read the topic.

In the summer, in Primorye, I often observe catocal during the day at the trunks of trees from which juice oozes , and not only from birches. For example, catocala helena caught with his own hands on oak, and catocala electa on maple.

Do butterfly species (imagos) have preferences in using flowers for their own nutrition (color of flowers, aromas, time of day of blooming flowers, etc., etc.). I read, for example, though I don't remember where, that swallowtails (Papilio machaon) allegedly prefer red flowers. is that true? Information on Hawkmoth (Sphingidae), Sailfish (Papilionidae), Nymphalidae, Ursa major (Arctiidae), and Limantriidae of the Southern Urals is particularly interesting. But their fauna on the territory of the European part of the USSR is also interesting. Are there any garden flowers that are most preferred when visiting imagos of these families?

There is such a thing as nectaros - plants that secrete a lot of nectar to attract insects. Many butterflies visit them. each region and period has its own types of nectarines. Garden flowers especially for hawkmoth: petunia and sweet tobacco, for skmeric and nocturnal hawkmoth, phlox for daytime hawkmoth.
Or I forgot something, but Volnyankam (Lymantriidae) (imago) do not feed.

Iridescent plants (genus Apatura, Nymphalidae) are not interested in any flowers at all. They love all sorts of dirt, rotten food, feces, etc. The same suffers and poplar Tapeworm (Limenitis populi): only once seen on some umbrella.

I found interesting information about night-scented flowers that can be planted both in the garden and on the balcony. Here http://seedsmag.ru/article_info.php/articl...e/Nochnye-Cvety

And they also write in the Internet about the night flower Zaluzianskya kapskaya( Zaluzianskya capensis), which has an incredibly strong, pronounced aroma. This flower is also called Zaluzhanskiya Cape and Nikterinia. It is also planted in gardens and, like, on balconies.

I think that these flowers can be a good bait for nocturnal insects.

I'll add some more information...
From hawkmoth-a number of species are very fond of lilac-proserpine, hyles of Gaul, bumblebees. They are often found on tar, especially bumblebees, porcellus, elpenor, and hyles. Very fond of caprifol and even hesperis. Bumblebees are also often visited by hardy flowers. In the second half of summer on phlox, shower. in tobacco and petunias, you can observe the second generation of bedstraw and euphorbiaceae, as well as the continuation of the first generation of elpenors. Also on these flowers are not uncommon pine hawks. Closer to autumn, in late August-early September, convolvulus can appear on the same flowers.

Swallowtails are visited by many flowers. I didn't notice any clear preferences among them.
From nymphalid limenitis Camilla is very fond of umbrella. Perelivnitsy once flew to pasta with stew))) Spring, wintering in imago like birch sap, and before wintering - sour fruit. Although peacock eyes are more likely to visit a variety of flowers. Thistles are very fond of clover (but many other flowers too).

I found Larra anathema today! hit on the road. the question arose, is it possible to catch it still if you drag a few live bears not far from the place where I found it and somehow place them in the open air so that they do not run away?

Natural bait-19.07.2013 observed 5-6 pigeons circling over the poop of some animal, possibly a fox, because there were thickets of trees and shrubs nearby, and someone moved there when I went forward, but when I went back, apparently out of fear the animal made a bait...

Finally, I managed to make a normal bait. jump.gif

Its recipe is similar to the one described by Konung on the third page of the topic. I took the spoiled apples, pears, and bananas, passed them through a meat grinder, and mixed them together. They stayed with me one day, and the next I added some beer. Yesterday I left it for a while on the North Crimean Canal. After some time, the result is 3 angloptera, which are found there regularly (one in the photo, because two were scared off) and different flies:

Since the beginning of September, my son and I have been fishing with standard bait (red wine from tetrapak+beer+old jam+ yeast). We coat the tree trunks from below to a height of about 1 m.Dermaleipa juno and Arcte coerula arrive, as well as other scoops.

Dear friends, Has anyone tried using baits in the tropics? In a nice, humid, tropical forest? Soon to go, so I decided to stir up there on the spot. Butterflies are not interested at all, baits are exclusively for beetles. Anything but dead-eaters and other scavengers. With dung beetles, too, everything is very clear. But barbels, local bronzes, goldfinches and other beetles that do not fly to the light are welcome prey. Based on the experience of our friends, it seems that in the tropics such traps with bait are a waste of time. Maybe someone had a positive result and you can share a secret? Advise the composition of such a bait, where and where to hang it/put it.

13.10.2013 12:32, El Cazador

Thailand. I used three options.
1. Fruit with sugar
2. Sugar shits
3. Nymphalids
, danaids, golubyanki, and scoops fly from all directions. Minus-there were rains every night, the bait did not have time to" wind up", and the water applied to rocks/tree trunks was washed away, and in the crown traps, in the morning there was more water than the bait substance.

Lesh, I judge the truth by our own: I think everyone's habits are approx. they are the same. Many barbels and some goldfish just fly to the light, but they do not go to any other baits, but in general they should be looked at on trees, logs, flowers, foliage, under the bark, etc.Only manual collection is effective, alas for these beetles. For bronzes, in my opinion, the traps in which they are caught in our region are also suitable.

In the tropics, 2 main problems that make it difficult to use baits: rain and ants. If the first problem is solvable, then the second one is not sure. In Peru, on the other hand, local pickers collected dung beetles in traps "for shit".
