Greetings from Nepal! Namaste! I came down from the mountains. I've already caught a few things, not as much as I'd like, but not bad, like for March. I'm going to Nagarkot tomorrow.

I've been back from Thailand for a month now. The trip was wonderful. We managed to drive from the Golden Triangle to the border with Malaysia.

Report later, but for now, the treasure trove:

100 pcs. VTS lie behind bricks in Somdet Phra Sinakharin Park in Ayutthaya. Here are the coordinates and photos of the treasure:

These are deep yellow plates, very convenient with this method. If anyone goes to Tai, take it away, you won't regret it!

Hello, dear forumchane!
I arrived from Nepal a couple of days ago. The purpose of the trip was to smoke cheap hashish (joke smile.gif) - once again touch the unique Nepalese culture and ,of course, entomological research This year was visited by Langtang Nat. Park, proudly almost climbing the Kyanjin Ri hill (4773 m), a little before reaching the Chinese border. Having received all the permits (unfortunately not for catching insects), I buy a bus ticket.A trip from Kathmandu on the local bus is still an exquisite pleasure. The road (120 km) takes about eight hours along a mountain serpentine with local pop music blaring loudly from the speakers. In the cabin, goats, bags of potatoes, etc. At the same time, half of the bus turns inside out, especially those who ride on the roof. It is not recommended to open windows. Having arrived in the village of Siabru Bensi, I try to catch the light in the evening. Electricity is cut off at 20.00-sidi Kuri. I've hired a porter and we'll start the route in the morning. The Himalayas are majestic. The views are certainly dizzying, but there aren't many butterflies. Here is an approximate list of those caught:
- Pieris brassicae nepalensis
- Pieris canidia indica
- Colias erate lativitta
- Colias fieldi

- Parnassius hardwickei

- Aglais kashmirensis
-Vanessa cardui
- Vanessa indica
- Symbrenthia niphanda
- Issoria issaea (as for me it is lathonia)

- Lycaena phleaas and more. species of undefined pigeons and bigheads.
I picked up a few coleoptera as well.
As you can see, the list is not rich. Nepal has fewer insects in spring than in summer, especially beetles. After completing the route on the way back, I catch butterflies on the light in Lama Wanted and Siabra Bensi. Fly in the mass of scoops and a few bears and moths. To be continued...

An excellent report, but there are not enough beetles because probably the local monkeys ate everything, they turned all the pebbles over. And in one photo, at night, it's snow or white flies after grass. We are waiting for the report to continue.

Hello, dear forumchane!
I arrived from Nepal a couple of days ago.

How high were you? The landscape is suspiciously harsh. Unfortunately, I haven't been to Nepal myself, but I know that the change from Indomalaya to the Palearctic is quite dramatic in altitude. Which is interesting. Caught only in the light?

Hello.
A bit of Borneo, or rather the surrounding area of Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan.
It rained every day after 16: 00 and usually lasted up to 1 hour.
There were a lot of daytime butterflies.
Of the beetles, the bulk flew at night, mainly crustaceans(many species), but also came across antlers, large prions and others.

Camus for lard goes great, but with pigs in Israel, they came up with a cool idea smile.gif. It was at altitudes up to 4,600 meters approximately. I caught daytime butterflies there, too. The transition to the Palearctic is really abrupt, as soon as you leave the forest, colias and cabbage flies immediately begin to fly. Parnassius Hardwicki began to appear at an altitude of approximately 3500 meters. Only to catch dumb, as the territory of the national park, inhabited by Buddhists. My porter was very, very afraid that we would be arrested. And this possibility was not illusory.

14.04.2012 13:59, Igorvet

Borneo is great!!! Especially with beetles. In Nepal, very few beetles were caught this year. Maybe because it's spring. The last time was in July, so there were a lot more of them, especially in the light. And now, in three weeks, I have caught a couple of dozen species, mostly small crunchers. So Borneo rules!

Were there any Carabids?

14.04.2012 14:56, scarabaeinae

There was no karabid.
Although it rained every day, the forest floor is a little dry.
He buried cups in the ground, looked under rocks and logs,
and saw nothing but millipedes and gooseflies.
Sincerely Vladislav

14.04.2012 15:16, Zlopastnyi Brandashmyg

In my experience, carabids are not very numerous in the tropics at all. In South Vietnam, there are literally a couple of species, if I remember correctly, from the Pterosthichinae. Very similar to our own.

Did you go out with a lantern at night? The forest is empty during the day.

14.04.2012 16:03, Bad Den

They should fly to the light, plus apparently you can find something by mowing through bushes and tree crowns (how to get there?), some fall into Malez traps.

14.04.2012 17:13, Mantispid

Hmm. Strange, there are thousands (if not millions)of insects in the tropics times more than we have. And you have such modest catches... How is this possible?

Nothing strange. With 101 attempts, it will be horaaaazdo more. It is the lack of familiarity of the place and uncertainty in the habits of unknown insects that plays a role. Live in such a place for a year and the catches will increase significantly.

The fact that in the tropics of insects you can easily "row with a shovel" is a common stamp. During the day, the rainforest is empty - this is one of my first and brightest impressions. In all my trips, I've only been to a good beach once (in Peru). In regions with a seasonal climate, a lot depends on the season, etc.

Happy Holidays to all!!!
The second part of the report is devoted to night trapping. The first attempts to catch the light I showed up in Seabru Bensi (this is in Langtang). But there were problems with the light (it wasn't there), so after catching a couple of egrotis ypsilon on a UV detector, I went to bed. In Lamash (2440m), there was electricity, but apart from a few shovels and moths, I didn't catch anything. Higher in Langtang I did not catch ( at night about zero, sometimes it snowed-no options). However, when I went down to the Benci Barn after the hike, I found out that the electricity had already been turned on in my absence. To the delight of DRV-shku turned on right on the central (and only) street. Scoops in large numbers, all small and 6-7 species of bears I caught. Then I went to Kathmandu, where I regrouped (by the way, the owner of the hotel in Thamel, which I chose), is Ukrainian smile.gif. I showed him the bacon...
Then I went to Nagarkot and stayed there for the rest of the time. The place is good. Hawkmoth, saturnia, crested bears, and so on flew in the assortment. The beetles were sad this time. Very sad. I occupied the entire top floor of the hotel. There are 2 rooms (although once I still had neighbors move in, but only for one night). The first 5 nights flew great in general, then there was one night cold and windy, and then the full moon came and with it a full pi ... ts. During the night a dozen shovels and a couple of hawkmoth. Even in Nagarkot, electricity is cut off every day, but only during the day. By the evening, by seven or eight o'clock, it was always already there (although once it was turned on by 23.00 - this evening I laid nine mattresses). So in general, the impressions are pleasant, although it still seems that I didn't catch much. But human greed, as you know, has no limit, you know. The local boss came to me and asked me why the hell I turn on two powerful light bulbs at night. To which I answered without a twinge of conscience-I am a photographer and I need to make a photos of mothers. And I am white and I don't care about anything. They immediately fell behind me and didn't climb the 5th floor at night with bad questions. Photo attached. To be continued.
P.S. The first and last photos show a view from the window.

Good day!
I am putting out the 3rd and last part of the report on Nepal. Surroundings of Nagarkot and the nearby village of Chisapani. In addition to nocturnal butterflies, there are also diurnal ones, although in rather modest quantities. For example, there are many times more daytime butterflies in Altai. But something comes across. Take the cool sailboat Chilasa epycides, although they hang out high enough, but you can catch them. Mostly fly all sorts of nymphalids, danaids and sailboats. I caught about fifteen sailboats. I fished mostly in the woods along the road that wound like a serpentine through the hills. In the village, at first I was shy to catch, but when Atropaneura polyeuctes, Papilio polyctor and memnon are rushing past, it is difficult to resist. So I gave the Nepalese kids a lot of fun. I caught local mourning girls Kaniska canace. In general, I consider the trip to be successful and informative. And this weekend I plan to open the season in the Kiev region, and even so delayed. Endromisov probably already prokhlopal, and a couple of females I would take myself.

Photos of fees are perfectly visible. But if you mean photos from nature: then believe me, when a person is busy collecting (collecting insects), there is simply no time to photograph landscapes, insects in nature, etc., and sometimes it is an extra burden to carry a camera with you. Yesterday I had no time to be distracted by photographing in nature myself: the main thing is to find and collect material (which sometimes is very difficult).

Yesterday I had no time to be distracted by photographing in nature myself: the main thing is to find and collect material (which sometimes is very difficult).

I also don't take many close-ups, although I want to and think interesting no less than insects. The same biotopes, plants, fungi, and the moments themselves - how everything happens...
But it's not so simple - it's changing the optics, rearranging a lot of camera settings back and forth. And this time (and no one specifically poses), and often you forget to rearrange something and it happens almost the whole day is constipated. In general, I do not like this business terribly, it is necessary to shoot either a small thing or a close-up... or have two cameras.
Collecting and taking photos normally is also a dilemma. I would certainly like to shoot everyone on the spot, in a familiar environment. Well, if it runs and you don't know when it will stop... and the log ends and there is a pile of last year's leaves ahead... Yes, and at least it sits and you don't know when it will flutter (wow, these bitchy zlatki). When they are in the mass, you can certainly relax, but if you see one single thing for the first time in five years of wandering through the woods, then the grabbing instinct works more often...
