Colleagues, please help with the definition. Both pigeons were caught in the south of the Chelyabinsk region in the mountain steppe 22.06.
Just do not need versions on icarus, they were there 3 weeks earlier and completely different smile.gif
Another question, I'm going to go fishing today in Orenburg region, tell me who went there, what is interesting there at the beginning of June, especially among pigeons...

Most likely, these are female Polyommatus eros krulikowsky.
At the beginning of June, Polyommatus (Neolysandra) coelestinus and Polyommatus (Agrodiaetus) damone were caught in Guberly.

Well, just a little extra. It flies with japhetic to Locus classicus, but is much more widespread.

I would like to remind you that the concept of "Locus classicus" does not exist in zoology. Here the ICZN has approved the concept of "standard location".

So still about Athamanthia japhetica... I was wondering if anyone was fishing in Orenburg region in the Urals. I went to the Kremlin on the weekend. From pigeons pylaon, coelestinus, vicrama, amandus, dispar, thersamon, icarus, thersites, tityrus, semiagrus, idas, argirognomon, rhymnus. I do not write generic names, because it is not a fact that they will be relevant). But japhetica and Calophrys suaviola alas and ah...we didn't get caught!

01.06.2012 22:27, PG18

Athamanthia japhetica was caught in 2004, near the former village of Gubernia (now occupied by sectarians), in mid-June, on a small patch of gravel slope of the slope above the river. Published (with pictures of the butterfly and biotope) here: Gorbunov P., Kosterin O. 2007. The butterflies of North Asia in nature. Vol. 2.: 381
I think it's flying right now.

It was from this book of yours that I learned about the discovery. It is doubly pleasant to read the author's answer. The find is amazing!!! From the thought that right now there is flying becomes sad, because the vacation is over (

On Saturday, I went with Sergey Shibaev and Dmitry Polikanin to the south-east of the region (the junction of Saratovskaya - Ulyanovsaka - Penza), worked in a large system of steppe gullies (where we previously found zegris, dwarf xylocope, geranium osmia-by the way, a new species of bee fauna of the Russian Federation and other rarities, including from plants) so - called "Pine Ravine "or as we called this area for Western views of nature"El Dorado". On a meadow slope overgrown with broom, he caught 3 males and 1 female Polyommatus eros boisduvalii (Herrich-Schäffer, 1844)!!? We managed to photograph a feeding male on a flowering thyme. In nature now as a result of an unusually hot spring (almost early summer ... winter somehow immediately turned into summer...) insects come out 3-4 weeks earlier than usual!!? That is, by species, it is now the end of June in the Middle Volga region... early July!! We have never seen or heard this from old-timers (regarding the flowering of plants)! Naturally, this is rather an exception to the rule and it makes no sense to take into account such an early date in the biology of the species - but such observations provide invaluable material for scientific research.

On the spread of pigeons: bellargus, Arion and Boisduval.

The caterpillars of P. corydonius showed an unusual trait: they gather in a group to pupate. Moreover, they wove a common web. I've never seen this happen in pigeons.

Interesting. Has anyone ever seen the second generation of daphnis in nature? Theoretically, this is probably possible. For example, for Lebanon, Larsen cited the second generation. Is it possible that along with a warming climate, some species in our latitudes will give more generations?

Vikram, according to the observations of Gennady Schemberger, already gives three generations, and I grew the fourth out of it, which, in principle, is possible in nature, since the third was in August. As a complication, the feed base burns out.

This is not necessary. This year in Pyatigorsk rains were more or less regular. Near the house there is a population of argyrognomon on a pea. I think there were five generations. Even now, fresh ones can be seen. Boris Vitalievich, can you tell us how long one cycle of this type can take?

This is not necessary.

Of course, not necessarily, but this particular vikrama (for the third generation) in nature this year thyme shrank.

At 30 degrees, the full cycle-from 27 days and a little more (from egg to adult) + it is necessary to throw on spawning for three days = about a month.

There is clearly a maracandicus here.

Boris, I have long wanted to ask you to enlighten us about the current situation in the Russian Federation with a little - known species-Everes decoloratus (Staudinger, 1886) .

Not maracandicus.
Very similar to idas, but most likely argus.

Try to identify pigeons.

In Maracandicus, the black border on the forewings is virtually absent. In the argyrognomon, it is much narrower, and the wings are longer.
Idas also usually have a narrower black border, but there are also specimens with a wider one, for example, in North Ossetia and the KCR.
Argus is most suitable, of course.
However, that's what genital analysis is all about, so that you can guess less. External morphology is a variable thing.
