But here is an example where different populations of a species are quite different in appearance. In diurnal butterflies, the subspecies would probably have been described long ago smile.gif
Males of the Caucasian endemic brushtail Orgyia (Clethrogyna) ochrolimbata Staudinger, 1881, inhabiting Georgia and the eastern Elbrus region, have a pronounced yellow wing stripe, while males from the Western Caucasus are almost monotonous and much darker.
Male (25 mm) - Russia, eastern Elbrus region, leg.Valentinus
Male (24mm) - Russia, western Elbrus region, leg. A. Belik

Orgyia thyellina Butler, 1881
Species found in Japan, China, on the Korean Peninsula and on.Taiwan. It was recently found on Sakhalin.
In most of its range, it produces two generations per year. Females of the first generation are winged and fly well. Females of the second type are wingless.
In 1996, this volnyanka was brought to New Zealand (By the way, one of the few places on the planet where there are no volnyanka. They still somehow got to Fiji and New Caledonia, although the fauna is depleted, but New Zealand with volnyankami was not lucky at all). The view took root well in Auckland, but the evil New Zealanders completely destroyed it in two years. By the way , a textbook example of successful control of an aggressive invasive species.
Many thanks to O. L. Titova for the material!
Male (29mm) - Russia, Sakhalin, leg.Olga Titova

Yes, some patterns of coloration can be observed in butterflies of different species from different continents.
Examples: males Olene basalis Walker, 1855 from Cameroon and Orgyia osseata Walker, 1862 from Laos.
