Come on, come on! jump.gif
Just NEVER THROW AWAY THE MATERIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! firstly, it is the life of this creature, and secondly, in the life of an entomologist, there are cases that are remembered.......ah yeslib............ weep.gif

The main thing is to dispose of the material correctly. Sometimes it will lie on mattresses for 35 years, unclaimed by you, and then it turns out that it is suitable for someone

"the year before last" = 2009?
it was a long summer.
and fresh ones? non-migrants 7

Not a very fresh copy, two days already exactly flew. In general, I flew at my usual station. The fly-in is incredible: it is not such a flyer, firstly; secondly, the fly-in would have to be assumed only very far away (the specimen would be much skinnier), since in the foreseeable vicinity the view is somehow monovoltaic. Third, he would not have been able to reach Beloomut from afar by this time.

By the way, about ten years ago (I will not go to set the exact date), the freshest copy was taken. second-generation maera in the vicinity of the PTZ. This is also a very rare occurrence.

are there any SUCH people among us? teapot.gif  teapot.gif  teapot.gif
ps and what is a smiley face for contempt?

I caught Carabuses and ground beetles of various kinds, packed them under a film and put them in a box and closed them with a tight lid so that no fly would lay an egg. And then all sorts of things, I switched to other beetles, drank a couple of days, and the other day I brought a couple of carabuses from Kinneret, I open the box-a fairy tale straight. Half of them were so rotten that the chitin was leaking and mildewed. I threw it away. The heels that were still holding on, I bathed them in vinegar, de-cologneed them-they are lying there, drying. I'll throw it out tomorrow, too. What a smiley face!!!. Kill me, please!

Yesterday I got out to open the season. (I opened it for butterflies a week earlier - I took some " owl " off the wall - I gave it to M. Sklepikov...). In the suburban forest park, snow is still completely covered, along the paths there is a dog's g ... but, but the swamp is already thawed. I walked around, picked up branches that attacked during the winter, bark from stumps and rotten stumps themselves, etc
. Catch: Phosphuga atrata; Nudobius lentus; Cryptolestes sp. (in the course of Cryphalus saltuarius); Corticeus suturalis; Phloeotribus spinulosus; Pityophthorus micrographus; Lymantor coryli; Cryphalus saltuarius (this one is still in question) and the remains of several other bark beetle species... In general, poor...

I also did not fail to take advantage of the warm weather and opened the season. There was still a lot of snow in the woods, about knee - deep. There were almost no active insects , except for a few mosquitoes. There were no beetles or butterflies... The tops of the anthills were already thawed, and sluggish ants were crawling on them, looking sleepy. Which I took advantage of, deciding to sift out the myrmecophiles. The first anthill turned out to be a complete bummer - the anthill had not yet warmed up and the beetles were probably still sleeping somewhere... The second anthill turned out to be on thawed ground and life there was more active. There were quite a lot of small staphylinids on the screen - they spend the winter there... And finally, good luck - the Myrmetes piceus toddler. After half an hour of sorting through the dust, I already have four such animals! jump.gif On this, luck turned in some other place and nothing else came across, despite the fact that I spent an hour and a half sorting through the dust... Such is life... wink.gif The wind began to blow and rain began to fall. So I decided to go home before I froze completely. Already approaching the bus stop, I picked a piece of bark on a dead mountain ash tree and there was Dromius fenestratus. But a gust of wind immediately took the find somewhere in the distance. With this view, I traditionally have no luck. But I was lucky with the bus, which quickly took me to the warmth of my home...

So I opened the season.This weekend I spent in the village (Shuisky district, the village of Krasnoarmeyskoye).I spent three nights fishing in the light (or rather, three evenings, because it was still very cold at night and so I finished at 23:15).But first things first.

So, day one is Friday, April 15.I didn't get to the village until the afternoon,so I didn't have time to go fishing in the afternoon.As soon as my foot entered the territory of the dacha plot, a sad picture opened up to my eyes.On the territory of the site lay mountains of unfrozen snow,in some places its layer was above the knee.This was a complete surprise to me.Of course, I knew that snow melts noticeably slower in rural areas than in the city,but I didn't expect it to be so much slower.Realizing that I might face the fate of kotbegemot-ta (catching butterflies while standing knee-deep in snow), I first decided to clear the fishing area.As luck would have it,there was no shovel for cleaning snow at hand,so I had to use the usual one for digging the ground.I spent a lot of time and effort.Having prepared the screen and lamp, I went home.Time flew by while doing household chores.It was 20:45 on the clock, and it was time to start the sky hunt.Turning on the lamp, he immediately noticed a small butterfly flying by.I couldn't catch it,because it didn't fly up to the light,but it was flying high away from me.Then,about twenty minutes later, the leafhopper Acleris ?sp arrived..It was very cold at night,a slight minus, I was already thinking that no one else would fly to me, and I was going to leave.But that wasn't the case.The dustpan Brachionycha nubeculosa arrived,and then another leafwort Acleris.In general,there were quite a lot of Acleris, but for some reason they did not want to fly to the light, but only flew around and around, and at a fairly high altitude.Again there was a lull,again no one was flying,again I wanted to leave.It was very cold,and the moon was shining-not the best weather for night fishing,to put it mildly.Still,four more butterflies came to me that evening-two B. nubeculosa, Eupsilia transversa, Biston stratarius, and Semioscopis avellanella.The appearance of Biston stratarius was not expected at all, thinking that this is a later butterfly.Last year I caught it only on May 2,and spring is late this year.

Day two, Saturday, April 16.The day was warm and sunny.There was still a lot of snow in the field,but along the edge of the forest on the sunny side, the snow was almost gone.The first flowers bloomed-a mother-and-stepmother bloomed on the thawed birch tree.I decided to take a walk on the outskirts of the forest near the village of Sergeyevo.There were a lot of aspens, which means there was a chance to meet Archiearis notha.But alas, only Archiearis parthenias and Nymphalis xanthomelas flew.Then I walked along the bank of the Teza River,but the result was the same.I had in mind another perspective point in the area of the village of Polka,there may also be A. notha, but alas-the same species flew there-only parthenias and xanthomelas.
The night was very cold, perhaps even colder than on the first day.However, at about 22:00,six V. nubeculosa and one each Achlya flavicornis and Semioscopis avellanella arrived.What was surprising was that no Orthosia scoops had arrived in the past two nights.Last year, at the same time, there were a lot of them.Apparently, it's just still very cold for them.

Day three, Sunday, April 17.During the day, the same species flew, plus I met one Gonepteryx rhamni, and then Nymphalis urticae.I noticed one interesting feature this year-Nymphalis xanthomelas this year is a much more common butterfly than Nymphalis urticae and Nymphalis c-album combined.Last year, the opposite was true-urticae and c-album were much more common than xanthomelas at the same time of year.Unfortunately for myself again I did not meet Archiearis notha,I am not lucky in any way with this species.
In the late afternoon, there were changes in the weather.The day was clear and sunny,and in the evening the sky was covered with clouds.It was much warmer than in the evenings of the past two days.I expected a good night fishing trip,and my expectations were met.Butterflies were flying from all directions,there were a lot of them.Orthosia incerta and gothica, B. nubeculosa,Achlya flavicornis,and several Apocheima pilosaria and Conistra vaccinii flew in the mass.Also caught some strange butterfly from the genus Conistra, possibly ligula.However,I am not at all sure about this, the definition needs to be clarified.I also caught the moth Apocheima hispidaria.This species is quite rare in the Ivanovo region,at least I have never caught it before.In general, this night left a very pleasant impression.I finished fishing at 0: 10.

Here is everything that was collected in the previous three days:
Nymphalidae
1)Nymphalis xanthomelas (8);
2)Nymphalis urticae (1);
Pieridae
3)Gonepteryx rhamni (1);

4)Orthosia incerta (29);
5)Orthosia gothica (6);

6)Conistra vaccinii (2);
7)Conistra ?ligula(1);
8)Eupsilia transversa (1);
Noctuidae:Psaphidinae
9)Brachionycha nubeculosa (20);
Geometridae:Archiearinae
10)Archiearis parthenias (9);
Geometridae:Ennominae
11)Biston stratarius (1);
12)Apocheima hispidaria (1);
13)Apocheima pilosaria (7);
Thyatiridae
14)Achlya flavicornis (5);
Depressariinae
15)Agonopterix ?sp. (10);
16)Depressaria ?pimpinellae (1);
17)Depressaria ?sp-1 (1);
18)Depressaria ?sp-2 (1);
19)Semioscopis oculella (4);
20)Semioscopis avellanella (2);
Tortricidae
21)Acleris ?sp (3)

I should especially mention an incident that happened to me on Saturday, April 16, in the afternoon.I was walking along the road to Polka Village.Beyond the Polkas is an interesting wood where I expected to look for Archiearis notha.And so, approaching the bridge over the Granddaughter River, I noticed from afar three unknown men walking along the road.And the silhouette of one of them looked strangely familiar.I knew I'd seen one of them somewhere before,but I couldn't remember where or under what circumstances I'd seen him.I decided to come closer.So when I got very close to them and was able to see them clearly, my amazement knew no bounds.It was Sergey Chastilov (Papis) in person.It's true that people say that " The world is small!" And the most important thing is that the day before, on Thursday evening, we called him on the phone,and he told me that he was also going to nature in the next few days.But I could never have imagined that we would meet under such circumstances, in the field.Here is such a pleasant surprise!

On Saturday (16.04) I went "on trial" outside the city, despite the rather "non-flying" weather (+10, but overcast, periods of appearing and disappearing "frost"...). The scene is a mixed forest on the border of the Rostov and Borisoglebsky districts of the Yaroslavl region. Of the butterflies, I observed only Nymphalis antiopa, which was very pleased with its appearance, and the male Gonepteryx rhamni (one copy each). I tried to pick up dead wood rot-nothing particularly interesting-Europhilus sp., Oxypselaphus obscurum, Pterostichus strenuus, Oodes helopioides, Paederus riparius (these are in the mass, since it was on the border of a forest and a swampy meadow). The goal of" picking " - Carabus menetriesi, previously caught by me at this point, was not achieved frown.gif. Well, let's wait a week...

hello everyone! I'm a new person here, I used the forum practically only for asking stupid questions...
in St. Petersburg, it's getting greener and warmer every day. I can't wait to get out to the country. I recently observed some bees, and today I managed to catch a bumblebee in a flower bed. Bombus hypnorum, perhaps? =)

Oh, my God! On the afternoon of the 16th, I also went for a walk in the woods in the north-western environs of the city of Ivanovo to the villages of Dyakovo and Krivtsovo. The sun came out of the clouds only occasionally, but because of the rather strong north-westerly wind, it did not feel warm.
I walked along the edge of the forest, there was still a lot of snow, but in some places the ground was free of it. I was unlucky, in this weather I was not lucky enough to see a single butterfly at all, even there were no wintering ones. Of the insects I met only ants and small midges, some of them creating small transparent moving clouds on the bank of the Uvodi River and on the edge of the forest.
Still in the snow, a frog was trudging toward the river, half asleep. He watched her until she disappeared into the river's depths.

I managed to open the season only yesterday, April 21. I left work early and went straight to the same places. In the morning, the sun finally came out for a long time, warm, good. In the city limits in the Kuryanovo microdistrict, I saw one Archiearis parthenias and one Nymphalis xanthomelas. I left the city only by 15 o'clock, and reached the place only by 16 o'clock. This time I reached the village of Pesochnevo, turning towards the sand pits and the forest behind them. While walking, I met 2 more Archiearis parthenias in the field and on the highway opposite the village of Krivtsovo. The weather naturally turned bad by then, the sky was covered with a haze, in which the sun occasionally found weak spots and everything in the forest began to cast a faint shadow, but not for long.
When I settled down for fishing, collected a net, laid out jars-bottles, I realized that the weather and nature were mocking me. There were no butterflies in sight. I walked back and forth along the edge of the forest. Nothing. The wind is similar to the northwest as on the 16th, but less cold. Gusts. And here, in a little lull, are Archiearis parthenias and Inachis io. I needed Archiearis parthenias. One deft swing of the net - a butterfly in a trap. Hurray! I kill you, in a bag, it's done. Inspired by the first prey of the year, I look forward to the next butterflies. Again, nothing. I'm starting to get cold, even though I'm wearing a sweater and T-shirt under my army jacket. The wind is mostly to blame. Even the fact that a large chunk of blue sky appeared overhead passed very close to the sun, but never caught it. I started to get upset, but here's another Archiearis parthenias. I grab the net and run to it, but it's flying very high, right over my head, and it's impossible to reach it. I hope it descends, but no, it flies towards the field and disappears, driven by the wind, out of sight.
In total, I "caught" for an hour and a half, until I froze completely. And when I got ready and went home, Nymphalis xanthomelas flew in and mockingly landed on the ground nearby. In good condition, by the way. I sat for a while and was gone. I was still satisfied, and I returned with my prey-a fresh male Archiearis parthenias.
I had another dilettante question. In Archiearis parthenias, the color of the lower wings varies from yellow to bright orange to red. Is it just variability, or is the yellow color a sign that the wings are faded and the butterfly is not fresh?

Yesterday I jumped out for half an hour from work in a nearby park, found a peeling ash-leaved maple (the outer layer of bark was cracked and came off in rags, the maple is alive) in the cracks of the bark and under the lagging pieces I scored a good series of Dorytomus nebulosus. At first I thought that some maple "weevils", but alas... Apparently, they got up for the winter from a nearby poplar tree.

Christ is Risen!

Suburban forest on the outskirts of Oryol, sun and breeze.
I wanted to find moths, but I didn't have much luck with them.
Remember how V. Nabokov
wrote: "Snow has disappeared into the ditches from the slopes,
and the Petersburg spring
is full of excitement and anemones
and the first butterflies.
But I don't need last year's Vanessa,
wilted over the winter,
lemongrass worthless,
flying through the transparent forest.
But I will look out for four
lovely gauze wings
of the most delicate moth in the world
among the spots of the white trunk."
Everything is two weeks late, A. parthenias still fly, but only
battered females, they didn't want to pose. Of the nymphalids, only
the peacock's eye, where did they all go? A lot of lemongrass only.
Even in the willows, there is no abundance. Blooming chistyak, khokhlatka,
everything else in rosettes. And yet so cool!

It seems that last weekend few people met their expectations. I, however, had no illusions of any kind, because I was at the dacha in Yaroslavl, and there is nothing interesting to come across. Banal spring set - flavicornis, orthosia Gothic, cerasi, populetti, inserta, more nubeculose, munda, vaccinia, pilosaria, hispidaria, hirtaria, strataria and marginaria.
The Kazakh also had nothing interesting, one samei lanestris, several siversi plus a gray mass.
The same thing, but instead of lanestris, endromis was under Gus-Zhelezny at Mikhail and Viktor's.

We did not have frown.gifan endromis One copy was hit by Viktor's car near Yegoryevsk in the daytime.

Good people, help yourself we are not local we disappear and wander lol.gifYesterday we went fishing in a mixed forest, birch, willow, pine, poplar and, in some places, aspen. The season was quite intense, but not very specific. Basically, two types of scoops, at first glance, flew in the mass, and I wanted to ask when and in which biotope it is better to expect endromis, and cocoonworm lanestris, if I'm not mistaken ? And there are no moths, except for one egg instance. And I want more weep.gif weep.gif weep.gif

That's all Mikhail and I caught that night. By the way, it flew quite briskly, although the temperature was zero by 22-00. I spread out the material on the recently purchased hiking straighteners, mounted in a wooden suitcase, made by Roman (Romuald). The photo is available in the corresponding branch. I recommend it to everyone - a great thing!
I will be grateful for the definition of a scoop.

How many days were they dried?

I had another dilettante question. In Archiearis parthenias, the color of the lower wings varies from yellow to bright orange to red. Is it just variability, or is the yellow color a sign that the wings are faded and the butterfly is not fresh?

The yellow color of the hindwings of Archiearis parthenias may or may not be a simple variation.The yellow color of the wings of female moths of the genus Archiearis may indicate that it is Archiearis notha.

How many days were they dried?

I put the straighteners with the material on the dryer above the oil cooler. Soaked ones dry for a day, fresh ones - for two days. Straighteners are always free.

A few photos from St. Petersburg.
The last two days it has been roasting very hard, up to +22 in the shade! Lepidoptera fly even on busy avenues, not to mention vacant lots. I have noticed so far only Inachis io, Nymphalis urticae, Gonepteryx rhamni. From bumblebees in the mass of Bombus terrestris. There are still a lot of small (4 mm) bronze beetles.

On April 24-25, I went on a water trip on a catamaran on the Kast River, Yaroslavl region. Route: automobile bridge near the village of Grikorkovo, to the automobile bridge near the village of Mikhaltsevo. The weather is sunny, with a slight cool wind.
The river is just a fairy tale. There are almost no straight sections, just continuous turns. At first, the Cast was pleased with frequent blockages, combs, dangerous for catamaran gondolas flooded with gnarled trunks of pine trees, then there was a long section of shiver, and finally, when the landscape around changed from forest to field, the river became more full-flowing and, as it seemed, even more winding. We missed the peak of the flood, if we had gone earlier, it would have been a little easier. All the way we were accompanied by beavers plopping into the water from the shore, and in general they "inherited" so much there that the whole forest area reminded us who was the first owner here. On the way, we met two wooden bridges that had been washed up by the flood.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to please you with entomological observations. I went with people far from this, there were athletes in the team, and not biologists, so there was not much time to catch, even to observe. Everything is in a hurry, everything is sporty, you will not relax.
On the slipway near the first bridge, I observed a pair of GONEPTERYX RHAMNI , then along the river bank I occasionally came across single AGLAIS URTICAE and Archiearis parthenias or notha, but I didn't look closely. In one place alone, I observed three Archiearis parthenias/notha on the riverbank near the end of the hike.
On the antistapel at the motor bridge near the village of Mikhaltsevo, I saw a pair of AGLAIS URTICAE and sped past Archiearis parthenias/notha. Even at this bridge, I observed green beetles in the mass, which, when approaching, flew 2-4 meters and landed on the ground again. The beetles are a complete layman. Yes as in butterflies however :- )
Even on the surface of the water on the river itself, I saw smoothies and small floating beetles.

You can catch them everywhere! My season started late this year, and not very much, but the main thing is that it started. At Easter and at the cemetery.

Meeting point:

Saratov, "Resurrection cemetery", in litter, 24. IV. 2011

What we managed to collect:

Anisodactylus (Pseudanisodactylus) signatus (Panzer, 1796)
in litter, 24. IV. 2011 (1 specimen) A. S. Sazhnev leg., A. S. Sazhnev, A.V. Kovalev det., 2011.

Aphodius (Chilothorax) distinctus (Muller, 1776)
in litter, 24. IV. 2011 (1 specimen) A. S. Sazhnev leg., A. S. Sazhnev det., 2011.

Attidae gen. sp.
in litter, 24. IV. 2011 (1 specimen) A. S. Sazhnev leg., A. S. Sazhnev det., 2011.

For the spider-skipper, I will be happy to make any assumptions.

Unable to withstand the long spring, I went to the Belgorod Nature Reserve "Belogorye". If anyone does not know, then the reserve is a place where even grass is not burned in the spring and there is not much garbage in the forest at all, and that is only from students in practice.
But still, the first 3 days were cold and there were few beetles. And the nights are cold and the beetle did not fly not a fig, except for stupid floaters-tsybisterov. But I collected to order pyadenits (I took all of them) and a scoop that seemed to me.
DSC02993.JPG
At first, we walked through the forest, and there were all sorts of cool myrmecophiles in the anthills of the best Lasius emarginatus ants. For example, the largest European palpeberry Batrisus formicarius

A bunch of scidmenuses, toddlers, all sorts of staffs that need to be disassembled and determined. Cerophytum elateroides was found under the aspen bark.
And then we went to the steppe part of the reserve, and there at first it was cold, and then the next day on the southern slopes we covered T-shirts of 5 types
of brevicollis

cyclocysts of a terrifying 7 cm size

proscarabeuses

hungarikusy
and violaceus ran on asphalt and outside the reserve

and dorkashi in the reserve were 2 types

and holoseritseums walked on asphalt

Caught on the night of 29 floodplain forest, birch, poplar, linden, oak and all sorts of undergrowth of elderberry and willow inclusions. There is nothing interesting about it . scoops, pyadenichki small, not much. One crested bird is similar to a Carmelite but has a completely different wing pattern. That's all. And the endromises are still not flying weep.gif
