The weekend is coming to an end, and it's time to report back.
So:
On the 24th, after work, I checked the traps near Stavropol. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of Pachystus hungaricus mingens caught. It was overcast and cool, so apart from the rare whiteflies and thistles, no one caught my eye.
On the 25th, I left for the KCR in the morning. I visited Dauta and Indysh, where I checked the traps. The weather was fine, the air temperature hovered around 12 degrees Celsius, but the sun brightened up the coolness of the morning. I got a lot of interesting things, see the photo below. Of the butterflies, I saw erebium and tapeworms, but it was not possible to specifically deal with them on this trip.
On the morning of the 26th, I again visited the Novomaryevsky Glades near Stavropol, this time to catch butterflies. It is sunny, 25 degrees Celsius, and windy, which is not uncommon for these glades. I caught something.
Now a photo of the catch for three days.

Last Sunday, I checked a series of traps in Arkhyz, on the way to the observatory and in the Marukha River gorge, KCR. I just finished sorting out the catch. I lay out mattresses, maybe someone will be interested in something. Please excuse the lack of lighting.
So, the first two mattresses are KCR, Arkhyz, the road to the Zelenchuk Observatory and the alpine meadows behind the observatory.
DSC01662.JPG
DSC01663.JPG
The next two mattresses, KCR, Marukha River gorge, left bank of the river, forest zone at a distance of 6-9 km from the village.
DSC01665.JPG
DSC01667.JPG
If you are interested in specific beetles on mattresses, write in PM, I will try to make better photos.
In the alpine meadows of Zelenchuk caught Carabus (Archiplectes) edithae ssp, on Maruha in the uppermost series of traps 2 copies of Carabus (Archiplectes) edithae exeditae.

Good evening, everyone.
Let me present a short report on our joint trip to Abkhazia from July 10 to 22 this year. Unfortunately, for reasons beyond our control, the main photo report could not be saved, so I submit my own with the permission of my friends.
So, having written off on the Internet, on the morning of July 10, I, Igor Solodovnikov and Nikolai Pichugin met at the railway station in Sochi and went along the route developed by Igor to Abkhazia.
Morning in Sochi at the railway station.

Everything is in full bloom on the forecourt.
DSC01674.JPG
The trains arrived on time, everyone met, met in person and went to customs. A few hours later, having set up the first series of traps, we successfully arrived to spend the night at Yunik's foothill village.
Morning in the mountains.
DSC01676.JPG
After spending the night, we went along the route to the lake district. Ritsa and further to the Ankho Pass, along the way placing a series of traps in your favorite places.

After driving to the Ankho pass, we stopped in the area of the pass for three nights, having worked productively there.
DSC01713.JPG
DSC01715.JPG
On the second day of life on the pass in one of the hikes we were caught by rain, and at night a real thunderstorm broke out, but Igor's tent successfully passed this test and the morning met us with beautiful weather. The next day, we broke camp and set a series of traps along the way, headed towards Pskhu, but since it was constantly raining, and there was a possibility that we would not overcome the fords by car on the way back, we decided to change the second half of the trip and returned for a few days to the coast, where one day we successfully they fished for horses on the riverbanks.

Good evening, everyone.
Indeed, R. is partly right. Yakovlev, that summer is ending, it's time to "collect stones" that bish remove traps and process the material.
This is the second week I've been doing this.
29.07 removed traps near Stavropol, the heat was all the previous week, there is no sense anymore.
Last Saturday, 30.07. I was shooting traps on Gumbashi Lane, and, I repent, I reloaded, hoping for the best traps on Jemagat.
Yesterday I removed traps in Adygea.
I didn't take any photos of the species this time, but I will present a few photos of the catch.

Karachay-Cherkessia 21.08.11-02.09.11
gathering places Zelenchuksky district, Arkhyz district, Taulu glade, Smirnov Rock, Sofia ridge, Cheget-Chat ridge, Orlyonok Rock, Psysh and Sofia river valleys
heights from 1500m to 2600m.
About the results of the collection.
Out of season, very dry, rained once. The photo shows how the Sofia glacier melted. There is little water in the rivers. The nights are cold, it feels like +3. The heat is unbearable during the day. There was NOTHING in the cups. For the first 5 days, there were no beetles at all, even in the manure. Hundreds of trees and thousands of rocks were shoveled. After the rain, the situation changed a little. The result is that you need to go in June-July.
I also caught butterflies. I don't like it and I don't know how to do it. Therefore, I caught only 60 pieces. Mostly pigeons of different species.
Mattresses perefotkayu. They didn't work out well frown.gif

Apparently, the presence of rocks and other types of shelters is crucial for ground beetles in general, gullies, gorges and ravines with flowing springs, lying old logs and not dense vegetation, the presence of slugs, worms, etc. dumb animals is a paradise for them.On the N. Volga there are 5 traps at the bottom of dry ravines for 9 days, except for ants-0.00.Specially laid out giblets from fish, heads-no one except ants did not come, although the Hungarian zhuzha should be in units. copies.Maybe out of season-August.

11.09.2011 0:14, Black Coleopter

If they laid out the giblets of fish, then scavengers, in theory, should have looked.

11.09.2011 10:51, Maksim M.

For Black Coleopter.I checked at night and during the day, medlyaki and chernotelki went only near the kitchen in the evening to the dark-I caught 4 pcs, where there was a toilet, 20 people used it, without bleach, 9 days, there was no life, I didn't climb deep, however, imho all beetles ended their life cycle.

I will dilute the series of reports about catching wingless moth and plumigera a little, just a little belated story about the expedition to the Krasnodar Territory (Bolshoy Utrish) on 10-29. 08. 2011.
Utrish.JPGP1010835.JPGP1010653.JPGP1010862.JPG[
attachmentid ()=124533]P1010555.JPGSucco.JPG

This was my third such trip to this place in August, and compared to previous years, I was very surprised by the weather. If the rain had only drenched the land of Utrish once in the previous two trips, this time I was often woken up in the morning by the sound of thunder (and thanks to them for this, they were the only ones who allowed me to get into the tent and leave the things scattered around it before the short but heavy rain began to fall). And at the end of August, gale-force winds also began, which on one of the far from most pleasant evenings demolished half of the tents in the camp.

In accordance with the weather and with the higher humidity than usual, the abundance of beetles was also higher (which at this time in this place usually does not strike the imagination). Acinopus laevigatus ran in abundance in the litter; Capnodis cariosa and, more rarely, Capnodis tenebrionis flew in juniper woodlands; Coptocephala gebleri swarmed on the inflorescences of some xerophytic umbel, between which there were Chlorophorus sartor, Oxythyrea funesta and Spermophagus sericeus. At night, there were occasionally isolated Lampyrus noctiluca.

attachmentid ()=124538]Oxythyrea_funesta.JPGMylabris_quadripunctata.JPG

In general, catching beetles on Utrisha in August is a somewhat disappointing activity. You can find remnants of former abundance everywhere - legs, elytra, heads of Lucanus cervus, Dorcus parallelopipedus, Calosoma sycophanta, Lacon lepidopterus, Eurythyrea sp. I can only be annoyed that I came here in August, and not in June, when it was possible to find and catch all of the above in a living state.
Lucanus_cervus.JPG

Bronzovki, in comparison with previous years, completely stopped going to wine traps. If earlier 7-8 individuals of Potosia cuprina and 2-3 individuals of Cetonischema speciosa flew to tree traps filled with draught Anapa wine at the same time, then this year nothing arrived. At the same time, a considerable number of specioses flew in the crowns of trees, and a few still fell into my hands.
Cetonischema_speciosa.JPG

But who in August could not be denied diversity and abundance - these are erect wings and praying mantises. There were many different types of erect-winged birds: prus, blue-winged fillies, locusts, locusts, plate-wings, crickets, pipeflies, and even puffballs.
Phaneroptera.JPGP1010887.JPGLocusta.JPGSaga_pedo.JPG
But the most numerous was the white-fronted grasshopper. In some places there was so much of it that one could only guess what all this predatory horde feeds on.
Decticus_albifrons.JPG

Of the praying mantises, I came across the Moscow Region banal Mantis religiosa, Hierodula transcaucasica, Bolivaria brachyptera (most of all); Ameles heldreichi, Iris polystictica, Empusa pennicornis (nymphs) - a little less often. Hierodula often flew into tents, buildings, climbed into insect traps, flew to the light.

Two types of cicadas - Tibicen plebejus and Cicada orni-sang in the crowns of oaks and junipers, and their number was constantly replenished due to the release of new imagos from nymphs.
Tibicen.JPGCicada_1.JPG

On the territory of the camp at night, tarantulas roamed - mostly impressive females with egg cocoons, as well as the main horror story of all vacationers here - the scolopendra. During the expedition, I had to remove this creature from their tents more than once at the request of my terrified colleagues.

*Continued*

This year, another innovation was discovered, from among the local mammals. It usually found itself in the middle of the night rattling canoes, which it turned over in search of food. Then the canoes were hidden, and the raccoon went on to the camp. From then on, any food left outside the tent at night didn't survive until morning.
P1010496.JPGP1010493.JPGP1010618.JPG

At night, the wind was quite weak, because the sky was almost always open at this time. Most of the lepidoptera were small moths, rarely scoops.
P1010756.JPG

From beetles - every little thing, but sometimes-even not at all small Cerambyx cerdo acuminatus. I remember the night when three individuals of the oak barbel arrived at the camp at ten-minute intervals.

P1010603.JPGSalticidae.JPGThomisus.JPGArgiope_bruennichi.JPG

Among the daytime butterflies in the forest, mostly satyrs flew: three species of hipparchia, cow's eye, vixen, egeria. One of the most elegant butterflies I'd ever seen, Limentis reducta, hovered in the woodlands and along the edges. On the mountainsides around scabiose, many tongues were swirling. There were also numerous thistles and mother-of-pearl flowers-pafia and pandora. In addition, there were several types of pigeons, tolkstogolovok and whiteflies. At the top of the highest mountain near Moscow, a swallowtail escaped me.

I also got two cocoons of pear saturnia found on building materials.
Saturnia_pupa.JPG

One of the main attractions of Utrish is the Mediterranean tortoise Testudo graeca nikolski-representatives of this subspecies, if I understand correctly, live only here and in Dagestan.
Testudo_graeca.JPG

At the end of the expedition, we took a two-day hike to a Dry Estuary. This is the name of an area at an altitude of about 400 m above sea level, located around a reservoir that is flooded in spring and dries up in summer (I don't know why it was called an estuary, it is very far from the sea and could not have had any connection with it in the foreseeable past). In the forest around this estuary, the flora and fauna was much richer than down by the sea. A huge amount of blackberries. I caught there Carabus septemcarinatus (one individual came to the light and climbed to the lamp on the tree trunk to a height of almost 2.5 meters), Brachinus crepitans, Helops caeruleus. Shaking the branches of shrubs gave a certain number of small cows (various Scymnus, Clitostethus arcuatus) and the caterpillar was fed to them. On the dry but still wet bottom of the estuary, we found traces of wild boar and badger. During the sleepover, I heard the voice of a gray owl.

I can't help but pay tribute to the tradition and bring here photos of mushrooms. Here they are.

When we returned from this trip to the camp, we found traces of rampant elements. The gale-force winds were getting stronger. Summer is over. It was time to leave.

Greetings to the fomum participants!
I want to tell you about my visit to the Bezengi Gorge in Kabardino-Balkaria this summer.
I got there as a member of mountaineering camps. But I had no less a desire to catch an interesting scoop than to walk around the mountains. So I had to combine these two interests. To catch the light, I took a 13 kg Honda EU 10i generator with me.
We left Minsk on July 15 in the evening. On the morning of the 17th we were in Cav. Min.Waters. There was a bus waiting for us, ordered through the administration of the Bezengi alpine camp. Since the camp is located in the border area, you need passes. They were also issued through the camp administration. Ordering a bus (GROOVE) cost 8000 Russian rubles. For 1 person came out about 750 rubles. On the way, we stopped in Nalchik, where we collected our passes, bought food at the market and went on. About 5-6 kilometers from the camp, the road was blocked by a small mudflow that recently descended. I had to drag all the stuff over the rubble to the other side. About 2 hours later, a tented Kamaz truck came for us from the camp (either from the Ministry of Emergency Situations or military training camps), and we covered the remaining distance on it. In general, we were on the spot and started putting up tents around 19 hours. The alpine camp is located at an altitude of approximately 2200 m above sea level.
IMG_1927.jpg
IMG_1912.jpg
The next 19 days were devoted to approaches to various intermediate camps with subsequent ascents to some peaks of the area (not too difficult, up to 3A km), and in the intervals - catching butterflies, both day and night, installing soil traps on carabuses. The light managed to catch 4 times. After that, something happened to the generator and it refused to work. After returning home, the Honda service told me that the inverter had broken down, which could have been caused by a prolonged overload. Perhaps the reason was poor-quality gasoline purchased at a local gas station in conjunction with an unregulated carburetor for working at altitude.
Near the Ukyu Kosh hut (3200 m). There are already very few butterflies at this altitude. To get here, you need to overcome a rather steep climb. And on the rise on the slopes of butterflies flying quite a lot. Once I saw a P. apollo about 5-7 meters away, but a strong wind and too steep a slope did not allow me to catch it. In addition, I saw apollo once more in another place, but in similar conditions and also did not catch it.

Here, too, I fished for light (near the alpine camp, about 2200 m), the Bezengi glacier (on old maps - Ulluchiran) is the longest in the Caucasus. I caught Cucullia magnifica here, which surprised me a little

Ah-ah-ah! Now I understand.
This hawk moth was not enough, compared to the ruler moth. Although in 2009 in Uzunkol (Karachay-Cherkessia) I flew to the light regularly.
And the Main ridge in Bezengy is high, on average from 4000 m, a couple of peaks above 5000 m. But a hawk moth can be quite capable in good weather.

And who is arguing smile.gif.
Caterpillars develop in the Krasnodar Territory, and then north, through the main Caucasian ridge. They can't fly to Ukraine in any way. frown.gif
Sea buckthorn came to us from the Krasnodar Territory. The expansion began with the Kerch Peninsula.

In the Krasnodar Region, it is also known only from the northern macroslope of the Greater Caucasus. I haven't heard anyone catch him in Sochy.
