What was the weather like? In our country, this is a common occurrence during frosts.

it was clear, possibly with small cirrus clouds, degrees around +12, full moon

15.01.2010 20:32, RippeR

That's cool, someone else has it now.. or it's already summer.. And we had snow yesterday smile.gif
Tigran, thank you for the report, it's very interesting to watch. Already somehow strange to look at flowers at such a time smile.gif

It's really strange to look at flowers at this time of day smile.gif

Come to the Crimea. smile.gif We still have the autumn flowers blooming and the spring ones are already blooming.

cool of course, but now nothing smile.gif

Probably, many entomologists would like to live in the Crimea: most of the year - summer, and hence the season for fishing.

Good evening, in my opinion you have something with the personal account, my second letter has already sunk into it without response.

- Thanks for the info. - VERY BAD IF THIS IS the CASE....

16.01.2010 12:18, Андреас

It's just more difficult for me: when I'm in Zakan in the summer, I live in the house of my husband's relatives, who work as huntsmen in the Western territory. I can't go fishing under their noses on my own

- Some of them are "not correct"... - Talk to them about it at least first to get started. - By the way, - the set of butterflies you mentioned, - it smells like a "souvenir"...
- No, - I understand of course, - that the reserve, - it should be a reserve in Africa, - but something I can't believe that everything is still legal there with the absence of shooting and catching predatory animals and haymaking and grazing at least.... - I know the local Caucasian mentality. - Principled people do not stay there, unfortunately. - And the huntsmen and their activities (such as clearing rubble and building bridges - I was in the directorate of Adler with a friend who was just going to get a job as a huntsman there - we learned a lot) have a very indirect relationship to science.
I would very much like to agree with Okoyom, but I have not read the relevant calculations, and I do not have the appropriate education to know and understand the need for specific capture of specific batches of certain species in certain conditions of a certain place.

16.01.2010 12:43, Андреас

Probably, many entomologists would like to live in the Crimea: most of the year - summer, and hence the season for fishing.

"It's not always like that. - Okoyem can tell you the real state of affairs regarding the fishing of daytime butterflies in the summer, when in many places there in the frenzied heat and deadly dryness, many species fall into diapause. Well, - and the Crimea, of course, is big and different.
- And I, for example, at my CMS would like to study and study native insects until old age. "If only because there is no end to it.
- I sympathize with you, of course, Fmalka, that your harvesting season is very short, and the weather is not comfortable even in summer, so that you can wander and disappear in nature for several days wherever you have to.

something I can't believe that everything is still legal there with the absence of shooting and trapping of predatory animals and haymaking and grazing at least....

I don't know for sure about the shooting, at least during my stay there was no hunting and no game was brought. In general, I noticed that in those places, even despite the presence of their own livestock and poultry, meat is eaten quite rarely (both in the village of Zakan-on the territory of the reserve, and down in the village of Kurdzhinovo) compared to the city, many of which are served meat dishes every day. And as for haymaking, yes. The cattle need something to feed. Although " nature reserve "is still a different status than"nature reserve".

- Not at all-far from forever so

Most likely, my assumption was wrong, because from here, from the north, it seems to me that the heat in +30 is paradise.)) Although objectively this is really not the case either for local residents or for the local entomofauna.

That's what kind of ladybug I caught for almost 20 minutes today all over the lab smile.gif. Flying and nimble as your fly. As a result, it was still in a transparent plastic bag: D

"What's it called?"

And about his own: - Found in January, a large caterpillar scoops, about which I wrote, - all eats at night the leaves of violets in unsanitary conditions, burying themselves in the ground during the day. It is very difficult to extract violets from under the snow. (Stepdaughter and O had an easier time with snowdrops).

If I'm not mistaken, this is a variable Harmony (Harmonia axyridis). Indeed, a very mutable (polymorphic) view.

-Yesterday, in a hydrogen sulfide spring that is already spreading and cooled to 20 degrees, at the border of water, land and air, where algae grow, I saw a mysterious small beetle climbing busily, which is probably found here all year round. I still can't get it for myself because there is nothing to put it in.

A beetle in a sulfuric spring is very interesting. You need to carry a pisirek with you...

Hello everyone. Yesterday was tepid – 15 degrees. Wandered from longing for the mountain Hot. There is no snow on the south side(3). It was overcast. I found a new cave with a hare lying inside(4). – Here you can see that the rock was formed from mineral water flowing down, evaporating, evaporating into salt and petrified over many hundreds of thousands of years.
The dormant volcanoes of Yutsa and Jutsa, and behind them, invisible in the clouds – the majestic Elbrus (2). The city below seemed to sting in a daze against the Rocky Ridge.
"And then, lo and behold! - an orange light on a steep slope overgrown with hawthorn, thorn and tall grass – 2 hives fluttered up!!!! – and then another one!" There were no flowers yet. I also met a brooding cow.
So-with the opening of the season of me! – It is always very symbolic and very nice to meet the first butterfly after winter!

Hello there.
I was on a hike yesterday. I wandered along the Dzhemukha River, where it flows through the sagebrush-tipchak saline steppe, winding through impassable reed supports. Snow still lay on the dormant volcanoes of Beshtau and Zmeika. The rock on the slope (2) is called "Devil's Finger". From it, the Ministry of Emergency Situations-nicknames often remove (not for free of course) negligent tourists.
There were a lot of birds. In the photo (3) - broad-nosed ducks and a female marsh harrier on the background of the Snake slope; coot (4) begins to build a nest. I was extremely surprised by a female small mottled woodpecker who was pecking at the cane stalks!!! – I've never seen anything like it." In the photo, I captured her eating an insect. – Maybe she found a scoop pupa somewhere."
- Then a male(?)sat on my jacket. early spring moth (6)...
- I saw a common bug on the grass.
"There were drupes under the rocks. I also took a young earwig who started chewing sauerkraut right in my jar!
- Cute bombers come across, - a beetle is already great. I didn't want to pose. Interestingly, when placed on a stick, it only runs down it (!).
Then I went into the woods. Near a muddy stream, a mass of strange insects scurried through the trees (10)!... – I think that these are mayfly nymphs... - and maybe freckles?..... - I wonder, - do they eat anything at this stage?
- Large galls are found on fallen oak leaves (12). Inside they are juicy. They taste like rotten wild pears.
"There are countless spiders scurrying through the fallen leaves.
Diurnal butterflies include C-beloe angloptera, urticaria, and lemongrass males. By the way – I've never seen hives react so purposefully to the flowers of the forest!
- (14) - Saffron net and honey bee. These plants are also called "crocuses". They grow in forest clearings. And if the clearing is large or dry , they huddle close to the bushes.
- The temperature was +17.

Yes, this is a male freckles, quite possibly Capnia bifrons, they just have brachypter males and fly around this time.
Adults usually either do not eat or drink water, plant sap

Opatrum sabulosum (L.), a sand slug, has appeared in the mass on the southern side of Goryachaya Travertine Mountain. They are always dark at this time.
"And later there will be another one that looks very much like it , a little larger and lighter. - I wonder-female, or another species of the same genus?.....

Hello.... The first real warming (+22o, but cool, as the strong wind blows) it was not spared not only the six-legged neighbors who were enjoying life, but also caused, frankly, an aggravation of mental disorders in the vacationing visiting public.… Today I went to wander along the southern slope of Goryachaya Travertine Mountain and came almost to Shameless Baths, where people who are in anything or nothing are enjoying themselves in the open air in a pool of hot carbon dioxide-hydrogen sulfide-silicon-radium-emanation water cut out on the mountainside, escaping from a well. Nearby there is a chic, though steep, untrodden and unburned slope of the gledichee-apricot-cherry plum-hawthorn forest. The trees there don't give much shade, and the grass has already grown half a meter.
Lazia-means-I catch-I photograph, - and then I hear as if like about me – " Yes, this is onanisit! – He takes pictures of aunts , - and then on them........ it. " and " Yes, no-this is a drug addict-out-can't go any more-he's standing on his knees, and his hair is long!"… I barely restrained myself from replying and moved further away to the side of the branch building of the Military Sanatorium. But as in 15 minutes to me cops with a spaniel began to push through.....
In short, - After I "got out of my way by mowing down like a nerd" and showed all the contents of my pockets, including my veins, - and the cops realized that they had fucked up and recovered from the entomological shock, - the main cop gave me a parting friendly advice: - " In this weather, a man on vacation needs vodka eat and bab e....you're out in nature, and you catch butterflies and scare people"……

Along with the fact that every little thing flies-under the stones and lying trunks come across all sorts of interesting things. But it mostly did not want to pose, and I will present a modest mattress a little later.
- Today I made a discovery for myself - that the large C-shaped larvae that live in the rotten dust belong to bronzes, in particular-Cetonia aurata! - 2 beetles just recently hatched. Under the bark of the tree stump was a crowd of red nutcrackers. Zhuzhelichki colored all sorts of small ones come across ... bedbugs, spiders and any non-biting mosquito to hell.
- From butterflies flew Turnips, Mother-of-Pearl Small and Latons.

Today (20.04.) I finally got out after work in the vicinity of Stavropol.
Before that, the weather was not spoiled, and even today, with 14 degrees of heat and sunny weather, a strong cold wind spoiled everything.
First came Dorcadion

Then someone, as it turned out, Mike was digging a hole on the side of the road

DSC00904.JPG
Then I got a caterpillar, whose, I can't determine. Maybe someone will help.DSC00914.JPG

By the way, I don't know how it is in other regions, but dorcadians prefer to travel on country roads, for which four of them of the type shown in the photo paid with their lives, finishing it in a stain, but three of the other kind, to my deepest regret, said goodbye to life under the wheels of cars. weep.gif
Now a couple of still bleak landscapes of the edge of a bare forest

And finally. Spring, despite the cold weather, still triumphs. Primroses of the Stavropol steppe.

Good morning.
Yesterday we went to the half-drained reservoir to the west of the outskirts of Mineralnye Vody. The Kuma River also flows there. The wind is strong. The soil on higher ground is literally white and forms a crust. On the northern slopes of the banks, where the forest grows – clay. The bedding is minimal. There are generally sandy slopes. A lot of things were knocked out by cattle. Only near the water, in the forest and on steep slopes - a variety of flora.
1) Razvalka mountain on the background of Beshtau mountain.
2) The Kuma River. The color is always so diarrhoeal.
3) Teren at the peak of flowering on the background of a shallow reservoir, from which the freaks made a sand quarry.
5) Water snake with prey-fish. "The frogs are terrified of him.
6) Steppe Eagle (Red Data Book). I also saw broad-tailed nightingales, lapwings, hoopoes, meadow harriers, black kites, and buzzards. Muskrats break channels to the reeds to get safely to the shore.
11) The spider eats the spider. "Maybe a female to a male?"
14-15) Under the inverted board (they were sitting "upside down") – "nechty" - I'm at a loss to guess. Ants "graze" them. "As you can see, the creatures have thin legs.
24) - Do Rutabagas mate? "They're like?"

Of the diurnal butterflies – only 4 species – 2 - whiteflies; and Nymphalis polychloros caught only one, - a female. I also caught a glimpse of a male buckthorn pigeon.
It was so warm and pleasant in the ravine that I could barely resist the urge to go to sleep!

Bugs are not enough, but I collected something interesting. - I couldn't take a picture.

On arrival home, I met already in Pyatigorsk on Goryachaya Mountain – a male Podaliriya! He drank from a radon source (!).
I am surprised and happy - as we have on the KMV-at a tiny distance-so much different nature, if you move from the northeast to the southwest - from the semi-desert to the Alps!

A slightly belated report on the first trip to the KCR this year last Saturday 21.05. 2010 May not have been written at all, but there is useful information for those who are planning trips there this season. umnik.gif
Since October last year, the entrances to the Daut and Nahar River gorges have been closed due to the organization of a federal reserve in those places. The territory of the reserve is located between the Kuban and Teberda rivers from their sources to their confluence in Karachayevsk. The administration is located in Teberda, while it is subordinate to the Teberda Nature Reserve, but from next year they hope to be separated into a separate structure. All this was explained to me by the gamekeeper, whom we ran into after a kilometer of driving over the Kuban Bridge at the entrance to the Daut Gorge and who inexorably turned us back. wall.gif
I had to drive past the village of Elbrussky and enter the first gorge I came across, which turned out to be even wilder, especially with regard to the logging road, along which not all equipment can pass.
The weather pleased us, the rain started only after 16 hours. Traps were set up in the upper reaches. Under the stones I found koenigs and ground beetles, which I will put up in the theme when it dries up. Last year's mourners, a peacock's day's eye, fresh podalirias and single specimens of L. maera jachontovi, also fresh, flew from the butterflies.
I looked on the Internet, the ground beetle seems to be Cychrus aeneus starcki Reitter, 1888., but I'll put more details on the forum to determineIMG_0437.JPGIMG_0437.JPGIMG_0446.JPG
