There is nothing to confuse with. Another similar species, Synaphe diffidalis, can't be around your hood. So don't doubt, this is the species variability. You've got neat butterfly shots, nice to identify. :)

08.09.2012 16:47, Lev Bely: comment on Butterflies and music: Malcolm McLaren, Madame Butterfly

Once upon a time Malcolm McLaren presented to Britain a punk rock band Sex Pistols, and himself either performed rather provocative for England as he was especially well-known for being pretty progressive and innovative as to the music or art in general. Same was his 'Madame Butterfly' song based on the homonymous opera, arranged in his way with drum machines and atmospheric synthesizers. Why ...

One more butterfly hunting season is nearly over and it gradually turnes into home sessions with sorting the stuff, repairing nets and studying identification guides. But also this is the perfect time for visiting museums where the season is open all year round: to gaze for hours at bugs, compare specimens, count insect legs — namely, to make yourself ready for the next season hard ...

01.09.2012 22:31, Lev Bely: comment on Ships in Maritimes are being searched for invasive moth

Federal inspectors in Halifax, Canada, search 2—3 ships a week checking for signs of invasive Asian gipsy moth (Lymantria dispar). This supposedly can do serious damage to Maritime forests. The checking procedure may take place only at the Nova Scotia coast, hence those ships going to Saint John in Canadian province of New Brunswick, have to change their course. Canadian Food Inspection ...
