I'm sorry, but I want to ask you a couple more questions: Do these kozheaters bite people and do they harm people and pets (cats)? Can they come crawling in from neighbors, or do they wind up in certain conditions or old things?

1) People and animals are not bitten smile.gif.
2) To cats on kozheedov from a high bell tower, as well as to them on kitties.
3) By itself, no living creature, even in suitable conditions, can start up. Naturally, they are recorded in these suitable conditions: leatherworms, like most beetles, fly, and can perfectly fly (crawl) both from neighbors and from the street. In addition, they can be brought to the housing with things.

I completely agree with Dmitrich, and from my observations I will add: Do you have hawthorn, mountain ash, bird cherry blooming nearby? The beetle could easily appear from these flowering plants (very often found there in the mass). Of course, you will completely get rid of it at the same time (next year it may appear again). And don't be so afraid of him. smile.gif

Good afternoon! I have a question, please answer it. Today we threw out the Christmas tree after the new year and found a caterpillar on the tree (I send the photo). The caterpillar seemed very beautiful to us, we decided to transplant it into a 0.5-liter jar, put twigs from the Christmas tree and lettuce leaves. In a new environment, it behaves restlessly, crawls, can not find a place for itself. Can you tell me how to maintain it? What kind of view? And will it survive until the summer in such conditions?
Thank you in advance!

Orgyia sp. recens Hubner, 1819? In my opinion, but I'm not sure.

In my opinion, this is a Coniferous volnyanka Calliteara abietis, if of course you write from Russia, and not from America any wink.gif

Grow like this-put it in a jar, there is also a sprig of spruce, tie it on top with gauze or the like. Change the branch as it dries. If the caterpillar climbs up and sits on the gauze, it means that it is stuffy and hot, which means that the jar should be placed in a cooler place and / or ventilation should be increased. If there is a glazed balcony, it is better to put the jar there.
In general, the issues of feeding caterpillars are already being discussed here - http://molbiol.ru/forums/index.php?showtopic=90944

Help me identify new pets in our house. Found more often in the carpet in the corners, prefers darkness and especially if you drop a piece of paper or a bag under the bed - immediately there are clusters. It looks like a worm, brown in stripes, on top as a harder layer, while about 3 mm, there are thick ones and up to 5-6. They don't crawl on the bed or sofa. I've already treated them with a disinfectant, but they still show up. What it is and how to get rid of it. Tell me, eh ?

Unfortunately, it is difficult to say something definite from such photos (only the coin is clearly visiblesmile.gif), but I can assume that this is another sugar flake (it has already been written about enough in the topic) or the larva of a kozheater of some kind.

Thank you for your quick response, it doesn't look 100 percent like sugar flakes. There is a similarity with kozheedom-but not quite-these are not so fluffy and at the same time love to burrow into the carpet. There are no animals and never were.

These are the larvae of skin-eating beetles. About where and why they appear, how to deal with this topic has already been repeatedly discussed.

there were some insects. the whole forum was not mastered, but on several pages I found similar ones-kozheedy, which are brown in color (on "our" not a speck). only here they write that they are sedentary, and our people fly around the fluorescent lamps, beating against the lamps (in the rooms, kitchen, corridor).
1) judging by the behavior can it be kozheedy
2) how to get rid of them if there are cats in the apartment?

30.01.2010 18:26, vasiliy-feoktistov

This, judging by your post, can easily be: Attagenus sp? (a photo would be nice).
They will get rid of them in the same way as the rest of the leatherworms.

Hello!
Small white insects were caught in the kitchen today. They are strewn all over the countertop, stove and steamer, etc.

From such a photo, you can only say what you have already determined yourself - "small white crawling dots". It is even impossible to say for sure whether they are insects.

31.01.2010 15:50, Andrewsoad

Sorry, there is no macro ring at hand. They are not really visible anyway.

01.02.2010 23:42, vlad-veras

You can't tell without a photo, but by the symptoms, it may be a breeding tick. For example, they could multiply in wet flour or flakes.

02.02.2010 22:49, guest: Евгений

And how to deal with them? We don't have a lot of them but once every few days 5 small and adult pieces come across! Sprayed an aerosol for insects-disappeared for 2 weeks and again a little bit appear... How to deal with them? What kind of poison?

02.02.2010 23:18, Vorona

Do you need it - poison? they won't bite your leg... And the children-cats-you yourself in that bathroom.. hmm, live.

Hello, dear ones!

Please help me figure it out.
We sell orthopedic mattresses. A customer came to us with a statement that a year after the purchase, beetles of different sizes simultaneously crawled out of the mattress from 4 corners.

Our specialist visited the client. The mattress was opened. There's nothing inside the mattress, and there's either mold or insect marks on the corners.

Unfortunately, the master's photos didn't turn out very well.
What kind of beetles can these be and can they show up a year after buying a mattress in December?

user posted image

this is the appearance of the corner of the mattress. So on all 4 corners:

user posted image

This is an open corner. There are no beetles or traces of their vital activity inside the mattress.:

The buyer claims that beetles crawl out of the mattress.

Can you tell me if this is possible?

06.02.2010 11:30, Алексей Сажнев

these are bedbugs, traces on the mattress this is probably excrement and so on, the fact that they appeared in December is not a miracle, because the climate of the apartment is favorable for development, if complaints from several buyers, then it's probably the mattresses, if only from the wrong one, then maybe they were in the sofa itself initially, it's better to fight them

06.02.2010 11:33, Локи

Sorry, but these aren't bedbugs.
The buyer wore them to the SES.
Yes, and the photo shows that these are not bedbugs.
Even I can see that.

06.02.2010 11:34, Dmitry Vlasov

These are most likely bed beetles. True, the photo is bad, on the corners most likely excrement.
If bedbugs appeared in a year - no complaints to you... Either they were in the apartment, or they came from neighbors... For a more precise definition, you can contact the surveillance service (now called the "hygiene and surveillance center" or Rospotrebnadzor... there must be specialists there...

06.02.2010 11:38, Guest

The Center for Hygiene and Epidemiological Surveillance said that these are not bedbugs.
What they don't know.

06.02.2010 11:41, Алексей Сажнев

Isn't that what they look like?

You have a nice Hygiene and Epidemiological Surveillance Center lol.gif. These are bed beetles. And in general, you should not trash the topic "Definition of beetles". All these posts are on the topic " Who is this? The definition of " should be moved umnik.gif!

These aren't bed beetles!
Look, the ones on the left are upside down, belly up, so they look like bedbugs because of the sternites, but the one on the right is upside down with the elytra!. Elytra are blue-purple. And, most importantly, bedbugs have a crank mustache, but these do not.
I assume that the author works for a company that sells exotic mattresses. Such mattresses are stuffed with seaweed or shavings of various exotic, supposedly medicinal trees. So much for the source of beetles. On bamboo shavings from Vietnam came this beetle IMHO
It turns out, the consumer is right. And you need to steam the stuffing, and it's better not to deceive people. Fairy tales are all like with Zirconium, for fools who watch the Store on the Couch.

06.02.2010 12:08, Guest

Something I already began to doubt the veracity of the buyer's words...
We just believed that they went to the Ses.
If you posted it wrong, sorry.
This is your first time.
Thank you to everyone who answered.

06.02.2010 12:10, Guest

Wait - if these aren't bedbugs after all - then why aren't there any traces of them inside the mattress and how do they get out through a very tight seam????

I'm already confused myself (((
