I don't know the name of the plant frown.gif. I didn't put the leaves in the jar, because the caterpillar was apparently beginning to pupate (I rolled up the leaf a little with a spider web) confused.gif. I searched for the determinant, most likely it is burdocksmile.gif, than to feed?

- Feed the same plant, "the name of which I do not know".
"She glued the leaves together with mulberry because she lives among the glued leaves.
For future reference, don't take the leaves away from the caterpillars, no matter what they do with them!

Please tell me the name of the future butterfly.
The photo was taken in the Leningrad region, crawling apparently just in the grass.

Isn't this some kind of sawfly?

Isn't this some kind of sawfly?

No, a caterpillar. It's big. There are no" eyes " like sawflies on the head, the body is clearly segmented.

If the caterpillar is more than 4 cm, then it is a scoop Orthosia sp.

Thank you, this is definitely her, I already have a butterfly like this, although I thought it was another caterpillar, since there were many different pupae in the jar. The second one was eaten by parasites frown.gif

I apologize for being confused, the last photo may not be her case, but a Birch sawfly, but she had almost the same one, I just noticed that the light green outline of the sawfly's body can be seen through it redface.gif
Then I'll post it, I'm not sure about it either, I think that Cimbex femorata :

picture: _____2010_336.jpg

Perhaps it will help in determining that he uses a liquid as protection, which is sprayed from the glands on the sides of the body, there is a smell of birch. Perhaps this is what other sawflies do. I'll be more careful, it hit me right in the face.

In my opinion, you did not make a mistake in the definition.

umnik.gif Question to experts umnik.gif
Are there any clear signs that can distinguish between the Notodonta torva caterpillar and the Notodonta ziczac caterpillar from the photo?

So what? I have seen many photos of both caterpillars (near the pile itself). But Notodonta ziczac is very variable in color.
If there are clear differences, then describe them in words, and not with links to photos that I have seen more than once.
